G'day all,

Tension is easing here
We have agreed on a comprimise and we are hiring an 'off road camper trailer'
For a closer look visit this site:
http://www.adventureoffroadtrailers....20up%201.1.htm
It certainly seems a lot more comfortable than a tent! But then again what isn't!

Ann I like your thinking but I am willing to give it a go. I also would like to see more of the outback and in particular go to the Birdsville races.
This site gives you perhaps more of an idea of the remoteness of the place
http://www.exploroz.com.au/Feature/B...es/default.asp
I am not a race fan but this is quite unique.

Slavika all these men in your life just coming and going Just enlighten me, what are 'soffits'?
How disappointing about your stove with the dent. I bet you will have had more then enough of all these men coming and going but what a joy to then sit back and enjoy your new things.
When we get to do our US/Canada trip I am really looking forward to seeing the 'Lakes', it sounds so idyllic.

An addition to the family for our dd, her little schnoodle puppy has been born and is now 1 week old. She is very excited.
They are thinking of a name and are thinking 'Fuji'. This is the reasoning if you can follow
schnoodle = apple strudel = apple = Fuji (a type of apple that I assume is available in your part of the world)
I think it is kinda cute, I certainly cannot think of anything other than Rover, Blackie etc.

My webpage is finally coming together, boy it has not been easy doing it a little different than I have been used to.

Have a great day all,
Cheers
Maria

Maria: I see what you meant about remote. And the trailer will be a big help. I expect you would go with your 4wd vehicle, in order to visit the trails around there. How long do you plan to be gone? I hadn't realized the extent of the races. Bet there are some beautiful horses racing. One of my favorite animals. I think thata the horse has softest nose of any animal. As a matter of fact, I don't think there is anything else that can compare with that velvet feeling of a horses nose. :

Taking a little time off from my labors, Washed window and curtains. And with this fast service, it is wonderful to not have to wait for so long to go from one site to another. I was amazed at how quickly I could view the pages you posted.

Slavika: Kids are a lot of fun, and especially when thay can accomplish something like that. They are so proud of themselves. Your weekend sounded like fun.

I still haven't received any email notification from posts to our new address. I expect it takes a bit of time for 3FC to update info.

Hi everyone: Must soon get back to my labors and finish up. See you later. Ann

G'day all,

Well I am up at a ridiculously early time of 4.05am

Everything is going through my mind and more and I just cannot get back to sleep.

Ann Isn't it fantastic once you have fast internet access. I love it but because of the speed getting to different sites, I tend to surf even more than I did before
Yes we will be taking our 4x4 wheel drive for the trip, you can take an ordinary car but it is pretty rough. We are keeping an eye out on the roads (http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/quick...oads/area4.asp) this website is continually updated with advise of the state of the roads. Any heavy rainfall and the roads become impassable hence the need to take a sattelite phone. Sattelite phones are very expensive, we will be away for 8 days, the cost of connection for the 8 days is $125.00 and if we had to make a call, it would be $3.00 per minute The initial outlay is around the $4000, dh got this one from his work, it was surplus to requirement and we got it very cheaply.
It really is just a security thing and we hope not to have to use it.

No other news from this end, I think I will go and see what is on cable, probably some rivetting show from the year dot

Talk to you later.........
Cheers
Maria

Slavika: What is a soffits? By by the time you are done you are gonna have a brand new house! Your dryer sounds wonderful. I would like a Bigger one next time so I can do Blankets and such. Dont have that now and hate going to the laudermat for it. So neat that your grandson getting up on 1 ski! I bet he was proud of himself. I use to ski on One ski and it was the only way to go. Lots funner. Took forever for me to do it tho.

Ann: Im sure you are loving your cable access. It does make things faster! Updates should be imediate. I would check to make sure where you check off to get notifacations that its still checked. Maybe it didnt take.

Maria: My sister had one of those a long time ago. They really like it. And you right much better than a tent any day Your trip sounds so fun. I would like to go to the outback sometime. Actually I would seattle for anywhere in Australia. Would love to visit it sometime.

Best get back to work.

Hi Maria and Lily

Soffits are a aluminum type sheeting that comes in many different colours (to match or contrast) with the colour of your house. We had green shingles put on the roof and then a green "fascia" which is made out of an aluminum substance too that never requires painting and that is put around the perimeter house roof which is usually just wood and you paint it and then the eves (also in green) will be put on top of the fascia. You know the overhang of a house (the underneath part) well that is where the SOFFITS go and they will never need painting again either.

Talk to you all later.

Smile Fuji apples

Maria I am eating a Fuji apple from New Zealand as we , it is quite good. The camper you are renting looks quite nice.
I cannot sleep on the ground. The 2 times I tried were an absolute nightmare and will not EVER do it again. I couldn't sleep at all. The first time was 20 years ago, we were invited to spend a weekend with friends... it started out great, but they had unexpected relatives show up so we had to sleep in one of those outdoor kitchens, hard floor all screened in. I never slept at all and looked like someone pulled me through a knothole backwards the next day. The 2nd time was around 8 yrs ago, my DH and DD and I still had our cottage, we took the boat out to see these beautiful falls. It was a lovely hot day so DH and DD just went in bathing suits, I however was smart enough to be dressed properly (a little sarcasm here ). The lakes had high water that year, and there was a lot of wild rice in that area, so on the way back my DH missed the turn off to our lake, kept on going and we ended up in a lake that no one ever goes to.... and then ran out of gas. We managed to paddle that big boat to a rocky shore, and assessed the situation.. it was after 4:00pm and it looked grim. The lake wasn't that big, but big enough. I don't know how long we sat there until we saw a little canoe enter the mouth of the lake. We waved frantically... they paddled to an island. We really got worried then. As it turned out they did see us but were going to ignore us because they wanted peace and solitude that is why they came in the first place. Thank goodness they started to feel sorry for us because they got back into their canoe and headed to us. By the time they got to us it was really quite late and they were tired from all the paddling so they shared their tent and fire and food with us. They even gave my DH and DD some clothes to put on, the mosquitoes can be horrible. The ground was so uneven and rocky even with the padding of the tent it was the worst time. My DH slept beautifully.. nothing ever bothers his sleep. Meanwhile, our friends knew we went to the falls, they didn't see us come back, they checked the cottage and knew something was wrong. DH never left things laying around and the windows were open and they saw our little dog looking pretty lonely and pathetic. It was dusk when they notified the RCMP. It was too late to do anything, but first light in the morning they had search plane and a couple of boats out looking for us. They found us eating hot oatmeal and drinking cocoa with our new friends.
These lakes are not heavily populated and the wilderness can start right across the road from you cottage. A lot of people get lost hiking or blueberry picking. We got lost boating.. believe me we had to take a lot of good natured ribbing after that.

Well, I had no idea I would post so much, probably more than you wanted to know. We just came back from a casino/shopping jaunt into the US. We had a great time. I won $187.00 on quarters and my DH won the nickel jackpot ..5,000 /$250.00.. We also picked a bit more and lost some, but ended up winners for a change.

Talk to you later... a big

G'day all,

Trudy Thanks for sharing your adventure on the lake.
As I am reading it, you sound as though you were very cool, calm and collected.
I would have been besides myself
I could feel the mosquitos and certainly 'felt' the uneven ground to try and sleep on.
Lets hope we won't have a similar story after our trip to the Outback. MY dh is extremely safety conscious and these days there is so much on the market and whilst I complain of all the expense for the different safety gadgets (like GPS, 2way radio, satelite phone, I could go on but won't!) I guess if we were to be stranded it would be because of weather.
As I only 'said' to Slavika a few days ago, your lakes just sound so peaceful and idyllic.
By the way, great win at the Casino!

Lily what is stopping you coming to Australia , the US$ is not worth quite as much as what it was 12 months ago, that is probably the reason!
Have you been on your camping trip yet?

Slavika thanks for your explanation of 'soffits'. I am a bit thick and still was not too sure and then found the following:

If a house were a human body then the soffit would be the armpit. The soffit occupies a similar location with respect to the structure. It is the area on the underside of what is commonly referred to as the overhang. The overhang serves two purposes: 1) it protects the siding from excessive weather; and 2) it creates a place for the soffit.

Though the soffit and armpit perform similar functions, the soffit does not produce sweat. Through a screened opening, it allows air into the attic. The air cycles to the vents to carry heat and moisture out of the house. This is important because moisture in the attic will cause rot in sheathing and rafters.

The armpit analogy made me understand I do hate damp soffits!!!!!!

I received my business registration yesterday, it was addressed to the 'proprietor of MES Designs', sounds all very real now!
I will be applying for my domain name today and then get that website up and going.
Lots to do.

Cheers
Maria

Trudy: Thanks for sharing! That was quite an ordeal you went thru. I can just image that night from your story. I sometimes wonder why Men can sleep thru anything. My DH is the same way. I would of been up all night wondering what to do You did good at the Casino! Now your rich!

Slavika: Thanks! I now know what a soffits is sort of. I leave those things to hubby  Hows the house coming?

Maria: If DH evers gets a job, Australia here I come! I have been putting some money away as I really would like to come there. Dont know where I just want to go. From all your pictures its so pretty. I think I could spend a month there with no problem, and still want to go back again.
Congrats on getting the registration! Looking forward to seeing your site!

Night Night!

G'day everyone,

I don't know if Jamie Oliver (The naked chef) is known in your part of the world but...........his new cookbook was accidently sent over the email and is now circulating around the world.
I received it as a Word Attachment, at first I was reluctant to open it and ran my virus scanner over it but it is fine with some great recipes but not WW
It has 117 pages. It didn't take long for it to come through but I do have a ADSL connection (very fast)
If any of you would like me to forward it to you, just email me at [email protected]

Nice to get a freeby
Cheers
Maria

Angry the naked chef

Hi Maria We get the Naked Chef on the Food/tv Channel, although I notice he is calling it simply "Oliver" now. My Mom likes to watch the Food network, but would never watch him.., maybe that is why he changed the name here, lots of little old ladies were afraid to watch. Do you have to download the recipes when you open the attachment? This is probably a stupid question. I have ADSL connection too.
"Proprietor of MES Designs" sounds very impressive. Good luck on this venture.
I like the armpit analogy. Breathable soffits are very important here, especially in winter. You get snow build up on the roofs, then get a thaw, the sun partially melts the snow turning it into ice, the ice jams back into the shingles, and then in the next thaw you get water dripping out of the soffits, when it turns colder this turns to ice and all sorts of problems occur. It isn't easy living in this climate.. you have to be tough.., and probably not too bright.
Lily we too would love a trip to Australia some day. It would take you 1 day less that us to fly. Someone told me it was approx $3,000.00 for a return flight. Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing bothers my DH sleep. He gets way more sleep than I do, and he can nap during the day too.
My Mom has a in her apt again.. third time this summer. She is on the 2nd floor an apparently this mouse problem can occur to 4 floor up. I am quite peeved... I phoned her manager yesterday and told her that this is unacceptable, they have to find out where they are getting in and get rid of them immediately. My Mom is timid and doesn't want to bother anyone, in the meantime she is very uncomfortable in her own home. I was there today, cleaning out her lower cupboard shelves, sure enough, those horrible droppings were all over. I will have to do it again once they catch this little vermin. I told them to pull out the stove and fridge to check for any openings, I know they can squeeze into a very tiny opening.

'Bye guys..

Trudy: Your poor mom! Hope the manager does something. I agree its un acceptable. My hubby did find some reasonable flights for Australia last year. We were thinking of going before he got laid off. But they were 1500$ for both of us. It included, Melbourne, Sydney, and Carins. He is good at finding deals. Was a 18 hour trip from San Fran if I remember right.

Maria: Never heard of the Naked Chef before. I will pass on the book. I have so many recipes that Im not using now. I dont need to add to the collection and dust

It rained here today for a change. Made it nice. Could even turn off the Air conditioner
Later!

G'day all,

End of another week. I feel I have achieved quite a bit this week
Our camping trip will go ahead however not sure if we get where we want to go, lot of rain forecast in the area where we will be travelling. Just will have to wait and see.

Trudy As much as I would like to see Canada (and I WILL one day ) I don't know if I could live there permanently with all the cold weather you have. The soffits are making a lot more sense now
It is a lot of money to come to Australia as it is for us to go to the US and Canada. When dh finally retires we hope to be able to use our frequent flyer points, at least for one of our fares to the US. We also have some shares that we intend to cash in and use for this trip. So it is not just 'pie in the sky', we are definetly planning to come, probably in about 2 to 3 years time.

Lily I know what you mean about cookbooks, I have so many and if I have made one recipe out of each one, I would be going extremely well. I cannot resist them though.

This is the book I have as a Word Document with pictures and all, I am happy to email to anyone interested.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...808666-4403861

Have a great weekend all
Cheers

Good Morning:
Maria: I'll pass on the book too, as I too am a cookbook freak and have 3 shelves full. I hope you don't get rained out. That would be too bad after all the careful planning. An Austrailian visit has always been a dream of mine, but guess that I will have to be satisfied with pictures and travelogues on t.v.

It is interesting that most of us have DH's who can sleep through anything.

Trudy. My DH is asleep more that an hour every night before I even come to bed. He has his afternoon nap, and jokes that he has to have a nap at night to rest up before he goes to bed.: I've begun to think it is a 'man' thing. What do you think?

Went to Curves this morning and had a good workout. I really like doing this 3 times a week. My South Beach program is coming along well, and I really like it. I guess I am doing a combination of the WW low carb program and the SB. They are so
much alike.

Hope you all have a great Weekend. Ann
