Pleased everyone thinks our new name suits, thanks to Jane for the suggestion and making the change...here I thought no too many people were taking notice of us and here we have a moderator who reads all our posts and then suggests a great new name.
Glad you found our new thread Peggy, that would have been a scary storm. It is so good having visited you, I can picture the scene very clearly, you certainly were lucky not to have more damage.
Good to see you as well Gloria, I think our new name and a new member will spur us on to more regular posts.
I hope the other recent new members will find us OK.
What a lovely turn of events for you Trish, great to see you have found a new life partner and you are both happy.
A little about myself, I am 63, married 38 years and I have a married son and daughter and 3 grand daughters
I regularly make little websites to show off the girls to relatives and friends in far away places. Here is the latest http://www.adam.com.au/pdscholz/matildagallery/
My dh still works now and again, he keeps saying he will not take on any more contracts but he always does and he has been the last 3 and a bit months in Malaysia working on the documentation and other things for a new Telco.
Last year we travelled to America, hence I have met a number of the girls here. If you are totally bored you can read my blog on our American trip here http://flaggies.blogspot.com/
I run my own little business, it is more of a hobby but it also keeps the grandgirls dressed, most of my earnings go to them.
This will be my last weekend on my own, Alan will be back Saturday week, the 2 weeks before we are off to the outback will be very hectic, catching up with friends and preparing for our trip.
Welcome Trish. glad you found us, and that you are part of the 'beyond' as am I. We have done some visiting in a few places in S.C. and it is a nice state. We spent 10 days in Savannah once, when our motor home broke down, and we were practically living in a garage. It is a nice city, and we had time to see a lot of it. I hope your HD recovers quickly, and that your knee gets stronger too.
Maria: You sure will be happy to have Alan home. I was talking to Holly about your Wii and she is planning to get one, since she is under Dr.'s orders to lose weight. It sounds as if you are doing well with it. Your outback trip sounds like quite an adventure. Please do avoid all Crocs. They are nasty. I think that from what I have read they are worse than our alligators. GD Kate is doing her internship this summer at 2 different hospitals. She is really liking the hands on experience. I am proud to say by next year she will be a Dr. of physical therapy. She is an ambitious gal.
Gloria: I will be seeing my Dr. in a few days and thanks to your description of your coughing BP med. I am going to get mine changed. What did he change you to? I hope your other health problems will get ironed out soon.
Glenda: I am so happy to hear that you avoided the worst of the weather from your part of the world. And you are right that our little pets really become a part of the family.
I think you are right about the 100calorie snacks. I have made my special snack popcorn, and I have to think about it, and make itin the microwave, so I don't find it so easy to do, so often.
Peggy: Sorry to hear about your roof. You have certainly had a lot of rain, and I do feel sorry for all thefolks who have been caught in the floods and such bad weather. The farmers are really in difficulty. Here it is the tomato farmers. After the scare, but so far out florida tomatoes are cleared from difficulty. This reminds me of the problem with spinach not so long ago.
Slavika: your Patches is such a cute little 'critter' and I'm sure such great company. You have a right to be so proud of your grandkids. Taking gold in archery is quite a feat. I'm glad to hear that you and Trudy get together for good shopping. Do you still haave your 'teatime'?
Suz: How is the garden progressing. It won't be long before you will have early lettuce and scallions for sale. Unless you have been bothered by excessive rain.
BB: Is your singing group still meeting this summer? I keep getting requests about who is going to direct the park chorus in the fall, but I haven't a clue, and since I retired from that job, I am hoping that someone will come forward.
Trudy: How are things with you.
Karen: How about you. Hope you are healthy. Are you drying up like we are? It seems to rain all around us, but we get just a sprinkle or too. Our lawn is in very bad shape with so much brown grass.I have to water my flowerbed every night.
I just looked at the time and I think I should go to bed.
I hope you all have a good weekend. And I hope to have better news weight wise on the next post.
A glorious winters day here, too good to sit behind a computer but alas....
I have had a bit of a spring clean today for Alan's arrival home next Saturday. Won't get much of a chance when he is home and we are making the preparations for our trip to the Outback.
The roads that were cut last week are open again but in a very bad condition, only suitable for 4x4 wheel drive. It will be slow going.
I bought a digital photo frame yesterday, never thought I would like one until I saw one at Slavika's house and was very impressed. Of course I now have to load all the photos onto the frame.... I haven't really got the time but it is fun to do and it is bringing back many happy memories.
Ann Holly will love the Wii Fit, I think it is great and it sure keeps you on track. Kate is a lovely girl and will do well in life.
Ladies
the new name is great even if I am a little under the 60 I was wondering what had happened why there did not seem to be any posts after may 22
we have had a fair bit of rain and very humid weather but the garden is starting to look good but could use some sunshine now we have committed to starting a farmers market on July 4th and some things may not be ready by then We did have to replant some beans as some did not come up and those that did something was eating off the leaves My DH and I do not think that the location is for the market is good its outside the town and I know I would not stop at this place so we will probably set up in town on the main street and if any else wants to set up with us can so we will see what happens
Glad you found us Suz, believe me, before you know it the title will be applicable to you as well
The older I am getting the quicker the time seems to go, I was 50 only yesterday and now I am 63
Good luck with the market garden bit, I think the best location would have to be a spot where people can walk to purchase their produce, petrol [gas] prices have gone through the roof here I know your petrol prices are high but still no where near our pricing.
I booked a flight to Melbourne at the end of August and by booking so early it was cheaper for us to fly then to drive
This morning the headlines are that all airlines are putting up their prices as of today, lucky I have already booked.
Watching on the news the many weather diasters in the USA is rather frightening, the lates floods in Iowa are horrendous.
Maria, I am so tired of weather-related disasters. I have friends whose husbands are farmers and they need no more rain. One said she had never had a cow drown in a field in the summer in Oklahoma. One said the rain is going to ruin the crops. This is the second year for this extremely wet weather and if not for climate change warnings, I would just strike it up as a weird year. Now, I don't know.
Got an email from DIL Shanna yesterday. Her daughter, our Brooke, the young mother of our great-grandson had an emergency appendectomy at noon yesterday and could not nurse the baby. I guess it was pretty hectic for awhile until Nanna Shanna persuaded him to take a bottle.
We had all the kids at our house on Sunday for Fathers' Day. It was great! They loved the Wii games, especially the 6-year-old Austin. Wasn't it ironic that Tim Russert died on the Friday before? That was so very sad! I for some reason really trusted him and will miss him in this political year.
Well, today we had a daily thunderstorm before I even came to work. It is raining now even. I am so tired of this, even though the yard is beautiful. Enough is enough.
Suz, glad you found us and the vegetable growing is going pretty well, except for the beans.
Trish, funny how life just keeps happening, isn't it? And so glad it does and you found your blessing. My mother used to say, "Never say never." Isn't that the truth.
Gloria, glad you got your BP cough to leave. That had to be so tiring. My mother had that too and changed her BP meds. Medicine! Keeps us alive but sometimes there is a cost.
Thanks for all the warm welcomes. It's been hectic around here. It's been 2 weeks since DH surgery and he is coming along nicely. We have drs appointment this morning and if he feels like it we will hit Wal-Mart for groceries. With the rise in gasoline prices we plan trips out a little more carefully.
Maria - I loved the pics of your DGC. The are so sweet... precious smiles. Made me think of mine. I know you're glad Alan will be home again.
Sorry so many of you are having such terrible weather. We could use some of that rain all of you are being flooded with. Let's hope it gets better for everyone. DH son in IN had a lot of damage to his home from all the flooding and don't know if they will ever be able to get things back to normal. I'm sure it is that way for many.
Sorry this is a quick fly by, but will try to do better later. Just wanted to check in and wish all of you a very nice day.
I did post and then we had the big crash, so my gem was lost. So, I will try again. Big HI to Trish! It is always nice to have someone new join us. Looking forward to getting to know you.
I haven't been on the old 'puter much because my hands and wrists have been so sore. I have arthritis in both thumb joints and carpel tunnel in my right wrist. It makes everything difficult.
We had a wet cool spring but this week the temperatures have been great. What with all the cool and rain, plus the resident bunny, my flowers and veggies have had it tough. I am sprinkling cayenne pepper on everything, but tonight when we were going out I saw him lounging amongst the flowers looking quite content. I guess he likes his greens spicy.
We have been attending our granddaughter's soccer games, what fun! That little 5 year old has scored 12 goals so far , of course you have to remember that they are all so little, some of them can't even kick the ball We were at a game tonight. Our team is called the "Bumblebees" because their uniforms are yellow.
We also bought a new vehicle. It was about time, the old mini-van was going on 13 years old. Really liking the new one.
We took a little trip into the good old USA. It was nice to get away, but so good to get back home. I am not a happy traveler anymore.
Late friday afternoon here, the house is tidy and clean ready for Alan coming home tomorrow morning.
He is arriving at 6.15 am, lucky I am not far from the airport, I will leave home around the same time and by the time I get to the airport he should have cleared immigration and customs.
I had the best bargain this morning, d-i-l asked if I could keep an eye out for sheets as her sheets were just about finished. I love beautiful linen but it is also very pricey. I got 2 sets of queen size sheets that were originally priced at AUS$365.00 a set for AUS$50.00 a set They were supposed to have had flaws and were sent back by one of our more exclusive linen shops. The girl and myself went through both of the sets with a fine tooth comb and found a couple of minor imperfections, hardly anything to give you nightmares! Peta is thrilled with my purchases and they will be sleeping on their new sheets tonight!
I love getting a bargain!
I can imagine you would be tired of all those weather disasters Glenda, it would seem that your area is always particularly hard hit.
Good to hear your dh is improving Trish, I think everyone is planning their trips more carefully these days with the cost of petrol [gas]
Nice to 'see' you also Trudy. What sort of car did you buy? Your car was immaculate, whoever buys that car second hand will have a good car.
Sorry you are having so many problems with arthiritis etc., it must make life difficult.
On the weight front things are looking good, I had a bit of a gastric upset and was unable to eat much these last few days without throwing up (I am NOT pregnant) I did my Wii Fit this morning and I lost 3 lbs this week, the inconvenience of the gastric upset almost seemed worth while
The test will come over the next few weeks with a lot of socialising planned. I am going to try not to drink any alcohol that should help keeping me on track.
I'm now on the Core Plan, after 11 weeks on the flex and not losing but gaining. I'm posting over there now. In the first week I lost 2.6 lbs and I hoping for another loss this Thursday.
I'm not hungry anymore, and I don't have to look up every food point. So thats a plus.My Leader suggested that I switch and so I did.

BB: Is your singing group still meeting this summer? I keep getting requests about who is going to direct the park chorus in the fall, but I haven't a clue, and since I retired from that job, I am hoping that someone will come forward.
ANN-My group doesn't sing in the summer,we will meet up again in Sept. We have an chores that does that in town. Its called " The almost men chores" They sing at all our holiday like Memorial Independence's and Labor Days. Oh I wish you luck, nobody here wants to volunteer and that when the problem begins. Its always the same people that do everything and the other just sit on their fannys and do nothing.
Well, here it is another week gone by. We sure aren't posting much this summer - guess we are all too busy.
Trudy, I am so sorry you are having visits from Arthur. I just hate to ache and today I am having an ache in my knee. Gee, this getting older is fun!
Maria, you have had your honey for a full week. Yea! I bet he is excited to be home. And what a bargain! Sheets are such an expense anymore, but I love really good ones too.
My sister just called from Desitin, FL where she and her family are vacationing. They have a huge house with lots of bedrooms so her family and her boys' families are all there. My brother and his whole family are in another one. I think this might be what we think about doing next year unless the price of gas is $7/gallon.
We are going to San Antonio in July with older son and his family. Our granddaughter, her husband, and the gr-grandson too.
You all, DH has been off this week and has been bored to death. We are both so afraid of retirement if we get bored in one week. I know, I know, everyone says it is wonderful, just not sure.
BB, maybe the core plan would work for me too, but right now I think it would be too hard to stay on it and eat out. But great loss! You too, Maria. That Wii Fit must be great!
Well, here it is another Friday and wouldn't you know, woke up to rain. Those poor people along the Mississippi.
Glenda
Glenda I think the trick to retirement is when both of you do it at the same time. My DH and I do so many things together. Neither of us are bored. Believe me, you will find a happy medium and will enjoy retirement.
As I told you all, I changed internet servers and all my e-mail was lost. I am trying to remember what places sent me e-mail regularly so I can change my address, and it is frustrating. I had the pictures you gals had sent out and other choice bits of information, the links to PhotoShop that Maria gave me and that is all gone. All I can say is BACK EVERYTHING UP... but first learn how to do it.. Obviously I don't know how.
The other problem was picking out an e-mail address. You have no idea how my people have my last name. Shaw serves all of western Canada so my choices were very limited.
Well, I had better get back to "work".
Have a great weekend all...
A quick happy post. Saw the Dr. yesterday and my BP is under control. The new med are doing better by me....no coughing which my other med did.
Also the pre diabetic condition is being addressed. Went to a Nutritionist and was given info re: Carbs etc. I have been watching what I eat and the best news is that since the 28 of May I have lost 7.5 pounds. Hahoo!!!!! He said if I can keep it up and lose enough....20 pounds I may not need to be on any med for the diabeties or the BP. I hope so.
Jack is going out on an errand and I need to get going or be left behind...LOL. Gloria
Morning Ladies
I am down 1/2 lb sincl last week its amazing that I am not up a few lbs we have been to 2 picnics, a pig roast and I had a potluck party at the cottage with the ladies that I exercise with My DH (Gary) left on Wednesday to go back to Michigan and is returning home on tuesday I have been busy outside cleaning up trimmed branches around the yard
We have had a fair bit of rain this month and the last few days it has been very hot and humid and everthing in the garden has really jumped The beans that were replanted have taken off We were supposed to start the local farmers market this coming friday but will not have much to sell other than salad greens and a small amount of swiss chard and eggs from our chickens so we may not be going the first week
We are off this coming friday on our trip to Cape York, the northern most tip of Australia. The roads seem to be OK but it will still be slow going. I have attached a little map so you have a bit of an idea. It will probably be around 7000 km the round trip.
I am going to miss my Wii Fit but I guess this trip will keep me on the move as we try to negotiate some of the river crossings etc.
Trudy I hope you are getting everything order again on your computer, don't hesitate to ask for anything I can help you with, I am happy to do it.
Glenda you are right we are not posting as much as we used to, we must get back into the swing of it all again.
I am with Trudy we are NEVER bored and always planning/doing something. It really depends on yourself what you choose to do, sure you can sit at home and do little or you can go and experience all those things that you never had time to do before.
It doesn't have to cost a lot of money to stay fully occupied.
We now watch less TV then when we were both working because we do not have the time!!!!
I think the key is to find something you are passionate about (me and my photography, travel, grand kids etc) when you do, I can promise you, you will never be bored.
Gloria good to hear your BP is under control and your nutritionist sounds a great way to help you get rid of some weight. You sure have a good incentive to loose a further 20 lbs and then say goodbye to your diabetes medicines.
Suz you are doing well on the weight loss front, I am happy to say that I lost another pound this morning. I was a little concerned because of all the entertaining we have been doing since Alan came home but I tried to be sensible and it has worked
Our son has been approached to coach a cricket club in the Netherlands, they will pay his airfare, accommodation and also pay him a small remuneration. It would be in 12 months time and he would take long service leave from his job to do it.
We have had no intentions of going to Europe again, the flight is just so horrendously long however if he, wife and grandkids are going to be there for 5 months we might just HAVE to make the effort to go and see them whilst I can visit all my cousins at the same time.
Sounds like a plan to me!
I better be off and start getting food etc. organised for our trip.
