TBTA, good for you for finding the materials and getting started on your own. I had the materials from the past, but I just didn't do it. Joining and having the same leader that I had years ago in another town is helping me to stay focused this time. She saw me at my highest weight which is 36 pounds heavier than I am now, so she knows I can do it if I put my mind to it.

As the day progressed, the pain did too only to all parts of my body. Came to the conclusion that it was the fibro and not the arthritis that was causing my problems. It's colder so that makes a difference.

Toledo is less than 3 hours from me! We go to Michigan quite a bit and buzz through your area on I-75. I'll wave the next time!!

Went to water aerobics tonight because I thought it would help. It did! I felt so much better while I was in the water. There were only 2 of us there other than the instructor, so it was very relaxed. I think the rest of the class was getting ready to watch the Ohio St./Florida game.

I think I'll go start a new book. I love to read, and I think that will be my main thing that I do after retirement. (only 35 more school days!!!)

Hi,
Hope everyone is doing well tonight. We are watching the game. I went to exercise and then ate. I didn't get in the shower soon enough and now I'm cold and can't get warm. Someone today said "you've lost a lot of weight!" I was thinking not really, less than 5 pounds but I just said "thank you" and went on. I can tell the exercise is working. I told Pat tonight that for the first time I feel like I'm getting things under control.....

When I ran into WW last week to pick up the lemon bars, my old leader was there on Thursday (at lunch time). I think I'll start going when she is there. She hugged me and I told her if I knew she was there I would come to her meeting but would have to leave early since I only have 30 minutes for lunch and have to get back to school. Luckily, my planning period is right before my lunch so I have time to get there. We'll see how it goes this week.

TBTA, welcome to the group!!!!!

Tammy, I'll say it again "I"M SO JEALOUS"!!!! I'm sorry that you hurt tonight. I've heard other people say that the cold affects their fibro. Does any meds help?

Tina, how are you my friend? Is it cool down there? It's chilly here.

Dee, hope you are having fun on your trip!!!

Mimi, where are you "Honey" we miss you!!!!

Hi Susan! That's neat that you saw your old leader and might be able to go to her meetings. I was thrilled when I walked into mine and Sue was the leader. I'm sure you look like you've lost weight because of all of the workouts you are doing. You are toning up girl!! By the way, I love those lemon bars.

How many years of teaching do you have in? I know one of the 5th grade teachers is so depressed right now because she wants to quit. She's had health problems, her husband passed away a few years ago, and her mom passed away over Christmas break. She was also moved into a new position when our administration got stupid a couple years ago. I didn't deal with the switch very well, and she hasn't dealt with it very well at all.

The cold definitely affects the fibro. The rain does too. We had rain for so many days, then it turned cold all of a sudden. I have some different meds that I can take, and really none of them completely ease the pain. I have a prescription for Vicodin, but I only use 1/2 of a pill when my lower back won't respond to anything else.

I don't think Tim going back to school yesterday is helping matters any either. lol I have talked to him already though. He called yesterday to say the dining halls weren't open, so they all went out to eat. He called today to say that he bought his last textbook for one of his criminal justice classes. It was $112!!!! Then he called later to tell us he had received a letter from the university saying he is officially a sophomore, so he will now have an advisor in the Criminal Justice Dept. His advisor is one of his instructors this semester, so I thought that was great.

I can't believe I am still up. I know I'm not going to school tomorrow, so I guess I think I can stay up.

I've just started figuring out how to do the Activity Points that we can use. Do you all eat those points, or just do the exercise and stick to you points plus the flex points?

By the way, I thought I'd start Core today. I blew it at breakfast when I wanted Kashi cereal. I'm pitiful!!!

Hello all, Well I made it through my 1st day and stayed 1 pt under. Can't believe it. My husband is a supervisor at the same place I work , only he works midnights and is going in as I am leaving....any ways tonight he brought me over a VERY RICH looking piece of cake one of his people brought in and............................................... ........I refused it. YEA FOR ME, but it was sooooo hard to do. So I got through my 1st day and 1st temtation. I really feel good about it.

Tina, I am around 5'6" and not real big boned.

Tammy, I'll be waiting for that wave..lol. Where do you go in Mich.? Have you been to there Cabela's? It's great.

Auntie, From what I hear it sure wasn't much of a game. Oh well my Buckeye's are still a winner in my eyes.

When I was on WW before they told me to never have more than 2pts carried over per day so if you exersise you shoudn't skip the pts.

Now a question for all you ladies...........how do you get yourself to exersise? I hate it, I think about it and I get tired.lol lol lol lol. What kind of things do you do to get started. I can find all kind of excuses not to do any, so maybe you have some thing easy I could start with. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome TBTA!! This may not be the case for everyone, but when I first started WW, I wasn't focused on exercise right away. I found that after the first few weeks, as I saw my weight drop, I was more motovated to get moving. I knew that if I started walking, all that exercise would help me lose more on the scale. It keeps you motovated. I started by just taking my puppy for walks...then we would walk half the time, and run half the time. I try to get out for at least a half hour, 3 to 4 times a week. It also helps if you find something you enjoy. I love to swim, so I started taking aqua fit classes at the gym. It's not fun at first, but it gets easier. Hope that helps!

So, I am at work right now, and I am done at 12. Dave and I have to have Cleo in London (about 2 hours from Windsor) at 4:30. We finally get to talk to the specialist and have all our questions answered. She'll have the surgery tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for thinking of me gals!

Default Somewhere out there.....

It looks like the last time I checked in was 12/21/06, so I've been here, just invisible. Anyway, I've been reading December and January posts for the last hour or so and catching up with all y'alls lives.

Sue--looks like your hubby is back in shape--when I read he spazzed out on you, I was ready to come "train" him. Good for you for sticking with it--I think maybe he's insecure 'cause a young, hot, muscular trainer is making you sweat.

Okay, this made me laugh so hard picturing it, I almost peed my pants! But only because I could see myself doing the same thing. Glad your sense of humor is there to cushion the fall!

DEE--in regard to the CFS, if I may offer some advice---definitely get a second opinion, and NOT from just an MD. Find a nutritionist, a chiropracter, a natural or holistic practitioner. One of the problems many of us have today is that our systems get overloaded with toxins. Has your child had vaccinations recently? Thimerserol, which contains mercury, is hard for the body to process through. Also, food additives and preservatives might be a culprit, either in overloading, or contributing to actual food allergies. I would venture to have him tested for food allergies, and find someone who does adrenal system testing to see if his adrenals are fatigued. Here's the problem: most of this is NOT covered by insurance, so you'll end up paying out of pocket. BUT the medical treatments for CFS or other autoimmune disorders CAN worsen the problem, including--and I say this without the intent to offend anyone--antidepressants (which, while helpful for some people, in most people, can really mess with your adrenal system and brain chemistry and cause longer term problems down the road. That being said, I know there are people posting who take ADs--please take it as a "something to think about" and NOT as a criticism or judgement on your decision. I definitely am not Tom Cruise beating up Brooke Shields!!!) I guess your best plan is to research, research, research and make the best judgement call you can.

The other factor that is so important is nutrition. Trying to stay as close to a whole food diet as possible in order to eliminate the excess sodium, artificial colors, sweeteners, fats, etc., so that your body doesn't get overloaded with toxins is important. I realize that this is difficult when we're so busy, and believe me, I fall far short of a purely whole food diet myself.

But I've taken other steps, too, to try to protect my son (who has an Asperger's Syndrome (high-functioning autism) diagnosis) from things that are thought to be toxic-loading. It's hard to control his food at school, but at home, we eat a good whole-grain carb, a fruit & vegetable, and a good protein for supper, or for all meals during the weekend. He doesn't receive vaccinations any more, because of the mercury content, and we're slowly working on eliminating the bad things in our soaps, toothpastes, lotions, etc. Actually, we're moving away from dairy as well--I'm developing a lactose intolerance and he's always had problems with constipation--and getting calcium from better, more easily digested sources (like beans, broccoli, etc.) And definitely staying away from things like Splenda, fat-free sour cream, anything artificially altered as much as possible. We eat sugar & butter, but in small amounts on certain things (corn-on-the-cob, Dad's apple crisp) that are occasional parts of the diet.

I'm really tired of fighting with my body and feeling like crap. About a month ago, I got the puking flu and my body purged itself of EVERYTHING I tried to put into it. The day I got sick is the last day that I had diet Coke--god, I crave diet coke right now--but I know it make me feel sick, so it had to go. Actually, was concerned that I might be developing fibro myself, but since quitting my soda habit, I'm not as tight or as sore, so I'm hoping it's helping. Today is my third day of 1 gal+ of water--wish me luck, cause I'll be in the bathroom processing it!!!

Anyway.....that's my ramblings for the day. Good to "see" you all!!!

TBTA, I don't think I would have the willpower to pass up cake. Way to go for doing that!! Yes, we've been to Cabelas. We took a weekend trip in the fall and stayed at Dundee. We also took a trip to Monroe and went to the Henry Ford Museum. That was nice too. Over Christmas break my son and I went to Frankenmuth for a few days. I could have been waving to you all those times! Usually during the summer we head for Mackinaw City.

Exercise isn't an easy thing for me either. I do water aerobics a couple nights a week at the Y. I started last year this time, and I do enjoy that. My other exercise is just walking. I try to remember to wear my pedometer every day. The doctor wants me to aim for 6,000 steps which is 3 miles. He knows with the arthritis just getting in that much can be a challenge for me. I don't do it all at once. My steps go throughout the day.

Chantal, we'll be thinking of you and Cleo!!

Jody, good to hear from you girl!!! The new water aerobics instructor was talking about all the toxins that we have in our bodies. She talked about a colon cleanse that she does every spring and fall. She said it's kind of like house cleaning! lol I should get more information on that. Do you know what she might be talking about?

I had a boy in my class a couple years ago with Asperger's. He's one of my favorites. He and I got along great, but other teachers haven't been so lucky. I guess my personality just went right along with his. Sorry you had to have the flu. I've lucked out so far this winter.

Hope you are all having a good day!

Hi,
JOOOOOODDDDDYYYYY!!!!! Hi Girl!!!! I'm glad I could entertain you with my spill off the treadmill. I was laughing about it today again. Yes, my trainer is something to look at and I enjoy it I've decided not to talk about him so much. I think Pat might be a little jealous. Thanks for having my back What are friends for!!!!!!

I also have worked with Asperger's. I am a true believer that different foods and things in our environment effect us.

One of the local chiropractor's is doing the toxin foot baths. I'm wondering if it really works. I've also considered going and trying it.

Tammy, This is my 19th year. It's hard to believe it but it is. I keep thinking now that Texas changed the retirement age + years of service for teachers, I'll be much older, I could have retired at 53 but now it will be almost 60. I remember when the admin did all that stupid stuff!!! I know you really hurt with your fibro.

Chantal, you and Cleo will be in my prayers. Keep us posted on Cleo. I've been to Windsor before. It's beautiful there!!!

TBTA, I have just recently really gotten into exercise. I joined a new gym and have just made it a routine. I also got a personal trainer. He is very motivating and has really helped me get over the hump. I go about 6 days a week.

Tina, you are quiet today!!!!

Tammy, I forgot to answer your question about the activity points. I don't use them. I figure it's an added bonus for me if I don't count them. I'm addicted to those lemon bars!!!!

Well, I guess I better head to bed. I have to get up early in the morning. I took my car in to the shop and it wasn't ready when I left school. I got a loaner car so I have to go pick up my car and pay a fortune. It's all stuff that needed to be done but I really hate to pay the money.

Thank you Tammy and Auntie for keeping my Cleo in your thoughts. I haven't heard from the vet yet, but I assume the operation would have been done by now. I'll post more when I know.

Auntie, was it Windsor Ontario you visited? I don't know if I'd describe this city as beautiful, but it is definitely home.

Be sure to tell us how the surgery went and how long she'll be at the vet's.

Chantal,

Hope everything goes well with Cleo. Now don't laugh!!! But for some reason I was thinking Windsor England. Not Canada..... I knew you were from there but couldn't figure out why you were going that far to take Cleo.
