Hi Everyone,
Ok I need some advice. I am walking for excercise but I wanted to kind of shake things up a bit and do some other form of excercise. My qeustion is what workout videos do you all recommend? Thanks for your input.

Since your walking you might enjoy Kathy Smiths "March To Fitness" video tape. I really like her tapes. Theres always Tae-Bo, too. Billy Blanks is awesome. Try to find something that you'll have fun with so you'll be sure to stick with it.
notice that we all shy away from that word ( workout viedos) LOL next time post the word chocolate and watch them run. no pun intended . anyways I get a great workout with any body by Jakes viedos or Dennise Austin there both easy to follow . good luck
is that Kathy Smith March to Fitness a walking video tape or is it a combo of excersise and walking? Just curious, also where can you find her video tapes? Target, Wal-Mart, K-mart?
For something very different from your walking (or also as a perfect addition to walking) try yoga. My favorite kind is power yoga, also called Ashtanga. I have been using a variety of yoga workout tapes this past year and I love them. I have the power yoga series by Brian Kest--there are three of them, but you can buy whichever one you want or all of them. The second one is my personal favorite and wow what a workout. Another one I like, which is a bit mellower and perhaps more accessible for beginners, though still challenging for advanced folks, is the Buns of Steel power yoga tape. Both can be found on Amazon.com. If you decide to try yoga, I really recommend that you invest in a yoga mat. When I first started doing it at home I used a blanket, but it was constantly sliding around. A yoga mat makes a huge difference. I bought mine at a place called Huggermugger online. Strange name, but they have a lot of awesome yoga-related gear. Good luck to you and to everyone working toward a healthier life.
I have a few home workout videos, and I have to say that I like Taebo the best. I get a great workout and for WW it is a high activity! Gets the blood moving!!!!
For a "beginner", I would strongly suggest The FIRM Basics. There are 3 volumes - Sculpting With Weights, Fat Burning and a lower body one, which title I can't quite remember.
The Basics tapes are simple, well explained, and effective. Start with no weights, learn the moves, learn the form. Gradually add weight. These are all about 45 minutes including warmup and cooldown.
I can't reccommend this company enough. Check out www.firmdirect.com for more info.
Check the Goodwill or other second hand stores (or yard sales)for exercise video's. I have found most of the ones I use there ...Body Flex (which I love), Buns of Steel, Richard Simmons, and several others. It certainly saves money, and the tapes are all in good shape, and someday, I will be, too!
Don't forget about the library, too. That way you can try a variety of tapes at no cost & then spend money only on the ones you like. That's how I discovered the FIRM tapes and also the ones from Yoga Zone.
Haven't tried "Dancing Grannies" yet, though I keep seeing it on the shelf.
For nonbiased video reviews, try www.videofitness.com , www.amazon.com , www.college-video. com (you may need to type in this last one. The link never seems to work.) . Read the reviews to see which tapes seem to match your personality.
What are you looking for--strength training, flexibility, aerobic? I walk, ST, and do yoga. If you decide on ST, look into The Firm tapes. I hear these are great.
For yoga, there is the aerobic kind, like Astanga, or the relaxing kind, and many types in the middle. If you're really inflexible and new to yoga, I suggest Yoga Zone's Introduction to Yoga. Cueing is great for someone who's never done yoga. You can "move up" from there. If you want more flexibility try Rodney Yee's Yoga for Athletes. For more more aerobic a workout, check out power yoga tapes.
Be careful, though. I have about 20 yoga tapes (done about a dozen) and very few of them offer good cueing and instruction for a beginner. I do ffind the Yoga Zone tapes to be excellent in that department, though.
Pilates is also a good exercise for increased flexibility and wellness. However, I don't have a tape recommendation for that.
