Food Calculations: NOt always "Equal"
Regarding your comment about the Food Companion and Points listed: This is what I ROUTINELY show my new members in the getting started session. I show them the example on the flip chart, and they calculate this food at 4 points. Great. Now, I take them through an example of 2 oz of tuna, 80 cal, 0 fiber, 1 fat, which equals 2 points. Then, I point out, "Really hungry? Want to double that portion? Do the math: It's NOT four points, it becomes 3. Then, the last thing I show them is this: Raisin bran, at 3/4 cup serving is 110 cal, 5 g fiber (using the 4 g max) 1 g fat = only 1 point. HOWEVER, if they double that portion, it becomes 220 cal, the fiber obviously calculated at only 4 g, as above, 2 g fat then becomes??? Yes, FOUR points. So, this is another little place where our members need more direction, or hand holding. I always point this out.... Be careful when doubling... and the same goes for halving a portion. Sometimes it's exactly half, more than half, less than half. Cheers.
