Default Thin4Life - March 22/04

Good afternoon Lifers. How are you? How was your weekend?

Ran 14 Km yesterday morning, and I'm still tired! The distance itself would have been hard enough; on top of that, we had to contend with a steady snowfall that made footing tricky in places. It really was quite beautiful until the wind picked up toward the end. Then I just wanted to go home to a hot shower and warm mug of . Good news is, I did it! That's my longest distance to date.

Otherwise, not much new. My sister came over for dinner Saturday evening (DH was visiting his parents) and we cooked up a delicious meal - curried mushroom turnovers, pear and feta salad, pumpkin seed bread and cajun chicken pasta. A feast - and just the two of us to enjoy it! Several of these were recipes I'd been wanting to try, and all were a hit

I have a busy week ahead - run clinic tomorow night, several business meetings including one out-of-town on Thursday. I am taking Friday off and no doubt will appreciate it by the time the week comes to an end. Less than 4 weeks til we leave for Cuba.

Whazz up Pam, Melissa, Domina and lala.

Susan, hooray for your 14K run--awesome. You're on your way to that 1/2 marathon.
Would you share your pumpkin seed bread--that sounds good.

Again, I need to return to work to rest. It was a very busy weekend. Yesterday I chaired a fundraiser at my church. We had a show and brought in Irish entertainers; about 1000 people attended. Needless to say, I was ready for bed when I got home. I also had play rehearsal and rehearsal for "The Messiah." Yes, you might say that I'm a little overcommitted right now.

Before I came to work I put Crockpot lasagna in the old pot and at least DH and I will have a nice meal when we get home.

Hi, Pam, Melissa and lala.

Hi all!

I had the day off to go to the eye doctor--joy, joy. I had to get my pupils dilated again so they could check a "birth mark" behind my eye. Anyway, the good news is that it isn't anything that I need to worry about. My regular doctor found it when I went for a routine eye exam (I'd never had my pupils dilated so that's why it was never seen) and he referred me to a specialist.

Anyway, I had a horrible weekend in terms of eating--I went from one thing to another and felt miserable yesterday. Today it's going better and I'm working really hard to stay on track!

Susan: Congrats on finishing your longest race! I get winded just thinking about it!

Domina: Sometimes being so busy is a good thing; you know what you can handle and when you need to stop and relax.

The sun is shining here, although it's quite chilly (26); the rest of the week looks promising with the temps heading up to the high 40's, low 50's.

Hi to Lala, Pam!

Melissa, glad to hear your eyes are all right. That's scary when you are referred to a specialist. I also had a bad weekend eating; it's TOM and I just wanted lots of chocolate and salty things.

Hi Lifers,

I had a so-so weekend eating wise. Went out to dinner twice, and think I made some pretty decent choices. Also went to see a movie that was very disappointing but I'm happy to report I did not delve into buttery popcorn and candy!

Susan Congrats on your 14km on Sunday! What an accomplishment especially in the conditions you were running in. My sister and I are close also. We get together frequently for dinner and always take a mini vacation (usually 3-4 days) together each summer. Last summer it was Lake George, NY. Had a very nice time. I think this year will be Cape Cod.

Domina Thanks for mentioning Crockpots. I've been meaning to use mine more frequently. How was the lasagna?

Melissa Good news with your eye. I really do not like having my eyes dilated, definitely the worse part of the exam.

Very chilly day here also (20), but it looks like it will get warmer later in the week. Late night for me at work, its budget time and things are getting down to the wire. Hope I can stay away from the vending machines!!

Be Well
Pam

It's very windy here today; we expect 70 degrees, but with the wind, it's a little chilly. The lasagna was great; I love that recipe. I'm planning to use my crockpot tomorrow, too, to make some pork chops. The crock pot is really a great timesaver for me.

Pam, what is it about budgets and snacks? I think because preparing budgets is so stressful. The problem with them is that folks forget what they are--budgets!! Some managers make you stick to the numbers as if they're carved in granite. What movie did you see? When I go to the movies, I take my big purse and a baggie with my low fat popcorn. Someone told me once that was not right to take my own food; I countered with "they don't have anything for me at their snack counter!"

Hello to Susan, Melissa, lala.

It's a beautiful sunny morning - a bit on the cool side but it's supposed to warm up. It's hard to believe that it's spring; we still have a lot of snow hanging around.

Started to pack for Cuba last nite. There's nothing like going through shorts, tees and bathing suits to raise your spirits and level of anticipation.

I'd be happy to share the bread recipe Domina when I get it from my sister. It really was delicious. How did the lasagna turn out? I'm always looking for good crockpot recipes.

What movie did you see Pam?

Glad your eye is OK Melissa.

Where is lala?

Good afternoon!

It's sunny here today and the temps are holding at 45--I took advantage of the sun and went walking at lunchtime. It felt good. The rest of the week they're calling for rain but warmer temps (50's). I figure I'll work what I can in.

I've got my car back but I still need a couple of things done to it and my brother should be able to take care of one of the things (hose).

Domina I take my own snacks into the movie theatre--I figure that I'm entitled to eat what I need to and if they say anything I'd tell them that I have specific dietary needs and they don't offer what I need.

Pam: Stress and eating are hard for me--I've found that by drinking my water and making sure I don't get over-hungry that I do okay. Some days are easier than others though

Susan: We still have snow here too, I'm sure the rain and warmer temps will make that disappear and that the Spring flowers will start popping. I do enjoy the season of "rebirth"!

Lala: Where are you??? I hope everything is going okay!

Yes, where is lala? I hope she is okay. The last I heard she was trying to find a way to Philadelphia.

It's pretty here today. The March winds finally died down.

Susan, I hope you enjoy Cuba. That sounds so funny because we Americans aren't supposed to go there, but other country nationals do. Where will you be staying? It should be sunny and warm.

Good Afternoon,

A much nicer day here with temps in the low 40's and lots of sunshine. Short work day for me, had the morning off to bring my daughter to the orthodontist. Hope I'm not going to make up for it too much later in the week!!

Domina Yes, I work for a company where the accountants make you live by the numbers you budget throughout the entire year. Very, very frustrating and yes when I am stressed I overeat big time!! I also bring my own snacks to the movies, but occassionally the smell of the popcorn gets to me and I end up buying a bag. The movie we went to see was The Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. Had a 4 star rating in the newspaper and there really was not a lot to choose from, a lot of movies for children, but not too many for adults. So...even though it was a Jim Carrey movie we decided to give it a shot. Huge mistake...it was painful to watch and I left thinking what a waste of 2 hours!!

Susan When are you leaving for Cuba? You must be excited. Your right the thoughts of warm weather and summer clothes do brighten your mood!

Hi Melissa, I'm glad your weather is warming up too. I also like to go out at lunch for a walk. We have a nice little park in front of our office building that has a walking track. Makes it very convenient to get in a little exercise.

Well, I think I'm going to try and leave the office tonight at a decent time so I better sign off. Hope you all have a good evening.

Pam

It's sunny here today, but still very windy. I'm headed to a Spring Training baseball game this afternoon. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, maybe I'll see a lot of home runs. Later this evening I have play rehearsal.

Pam and Melissa, that's great that you walk at lunch. I think it helps you get through the rest of the day. I walk before work.

Hello to Susan and lala.

Hi Domina..Hope you enjoy the baseball game today. Are you going to see my beloved Red Sox by any chance?? Weather here today is very nice, close to 50.

Hi to Susan and Melissa..hope you are both having a good day.

Tonight I am going out to dinner with friends. A great new restaraunt with an exceptional wine list!! Hope I can make some good choices and keep myself away from the dessert menu which I've also heard is pretty exceptional.

Be Well

Pam

Good afternoon everyone!

The day started off sunny but by noon it was cloudy and drizzling. The temps are in the mid-40's but it feels cooler because of the rain. I did notice that it "smells" like Spring--you know the smell of the green grass, etc. The weather is supposed to be warmer the next few days and am hoping that the rain holds off at least until after noontime so I can get out and get some walking in!

I went to my meeting today at noon and stayed the same--I was happy about that since TOM is due to arrive tomorrow. Staying the same is a good thing!

Domina: I had the opportunity a few years back to go to a pre-season game at Tropicana Fields--how fun for you! Hope you get to enjoy the game!

Pam: Enjoy your dinner out. If you want dessert maybe split with someone so that way you won't feel deprived. I'm not big on desserts so I can generally pass on those for the most part.

Hi to Susan, Lala!

It was so nice at the stadium yesterday. The Expos beat the Orioles. Even though it was windy, it was still a pleasant afternoon.

Pam, I have the hardest time avoiding the desserts; Melissa had a great idea (sharing).

Melissa, I can't believe that you can pass up desserts; that is great. I just love them so much, especially anything with chocolate. Congrats on staying the same and right before TOM.

Where are you, Susan and lala?

Good Afternoon

Well last nights dinner was very good. I took Melissa's advice and shared. There were 4 of us dining together, and we ordered 2 desserts. Creme Brulee and triple chocolate cheesecake I guess it could have been worse.

Weather here today is rainy, but should be sunny and close to 60 tomorrow. Yeah...maybe spring is really here!!

Domina sounds like you had a nice time at the game. Opening day at Fenway Park is April 9th, hopefully there won't be snow on the ground.

Does everyone have fun plans for the weekend??

Pam
