Default Thin4Life - May 26, 3003

Good morning lifers, lurkers, etc. Thought I would get the thread started even though it's a holiday in the US and I'll probably be talking to myself today. Are you out there Saskie?

Had a quiet weekend but got loads of things done. The weather wasn't very good but in a way I'm thankful because I could concentrate on chores inside. I need one more rainy weekend to wrap things up, then bring on the sun and warmer weather!

Not a bad weekend food-wise but not great either. I need some incentive (as if the thought of a swimsuit isn't enough). Any suggestions?

Hi Susan,

It is indeed Memorial Day here and I'm in the office trying to format someone's data for a project that was supposed to be done ages ago. Did I tell you how much I hate other people's data?

I had a good weekend, I worked, worried about work, did a bunch of chores, gardened, exercised, cleaned and decluttered . DP is out in the ocean blue and sounds like the survey is going smoothly. Do you hear from DH when he is out? Remember the days when all you got was a phone call if something went wrong? This being in touch is good and bad.

I actually counted points yesterday. Right around dinner and wrote them all up and realized I was at 25. I stopped right there. I can't believe it.

I am getting soo chunky again. I have this roll of flab where I haven't had one before. The trainer and I are working on it, but its going to be a long haul to get rid of it. Lots of abs and pulldowns for me.

So, I am excited to head up to Nova Scotia in a little over a week. I see the weather in SPM is a bit brisk. I am going to be wearing major layers. I have the office mate's digital camera, so I'll take lots of pictures.

Hope everyone is well. I miss hearing from Saskie and that dear Laurel. Where the heck is she?

Hey, lala good to hear from you. I was getting a bit lonely

I haven't heard from DH except for a phone call late last week while they were still in the general vicinity. Email is supposed to work from the ship, but the experience to date hasn't been great. Even if it gets through, they're so busy with experiments and data collection that he doesn't get much of a break. At least that's his story....

Layers for SPM are a very good idea. The weather has been typical of eastern Canada for this time of year; nice and warm some days and chilly on others. We can't depend on consistently warm days until late June. The north Atlantic is even less dependable. Newfoundland and Labrador sometimes miss summer altogether, so you're wise to prepare for just about anything.

I would love to see pictures when you get back. Also, take lots of notes on availability of good French wine, bread, cheese, etc. The last time I visited Europe, I gained 10 lbs. Can you guess why??

Good morning!

Susan: Thanks for getting us up and running! Our little group has dwindled...I wonder where Patch, Laurel, Saskie, and the others have been? I'm in need of incentive as well...I seem to be comfortable where I'm at and it's not where I want to be. I need to take the bull by the horns...

Lala: I find that I can get so much more done when no one is around at the office...I'm looking forward to when the kids are out of school and I can head into the office early...no interruptions. I swear I can get done a week's worth of work in a mere 45 minutes without interruptions

The weather is dull & foggy here this morning...kind of goes with the way I feel this morning. DH is finally back to work after 8 weeks of being off...maybe life will get back to a somewhat normal pace now. Didn't do much over the weekend; a little cleaning, some decluttering but not nearly as much as I'd have liked. Always lots to do and just no ambition to tackle it!

Hi Melissa and Susan,

Melissa -- glad to see that DH is back on his feet again and back at work. I hope he takes it easy for the next few weeks. I got a bit of stuff done, realized that the two data sets I am working with are the same animal, just different kinds of data. DOH. I love other people's data and should probably pay more attention when they describe their data to me.

Susan -- I received the menus from the restaurants for our trip. Yikes. Its real french food with an emphasis on fresh seafood. It looks divine. I'll be happy to divulge any info I get to you.

Did okay again yesterday. I went to a friends for some bbqued salmon last night, but stayed within the point range. I'm sore today from my ab and upper body work out of yesterday, but its a good sore.

Nothing else going on, trying to work hard and efficiently and hopefully hear from my programmer today. I need his help.

Hope Domina, Saskie and Laurel are okay!

Hi Melissa and lala. Yes, it is a small group but if past experience is any indication, our old weight-loss buddies will wander back, along with new ones.

I had a long chat with myself yesterday and decided this cannot continue. This is the first time since 1999 that I've allowed the excess 3-4 lbs to stay for any appreciable amount of time. That has me worried. My clothes are tight - the scales say I'm over 150 - another first in almost 4 years. These are danger signs, and I'm determined not to go back to the place I was for all of those years.

I for one am in need of a shake-up. How about a mini-challenge? No need for a separate thread, we can just record our wins, losses and progress for the next, say, 5 weeks. Til the beginning of July?

My goals for the week (sound familiar?):

1. no more than 27 pts per day (NO MORE NIGHT BINGEING!)
2. water
3. exercise

Anyone??

I'm on it for the next seven days with you Susan.

I have A nicely stocked fridge of foods that I have preprepared for this week, yoghurts, some baked rhubarb, carrots, peppers, hummous, arrabiata sauce, shrimp, mahi mahi filets for tacos and non fat milk. The fact my friend from the gym gave me six handmade truffles is no deterrent, they are much better than skinny cows.

My goals:

stay at or near 25 pts per day
exercise regularly (not a problem)
drink water (sometimes a problem)
say bye bye to the bread at the bakery when I go in for coffee
stay away from the vending machine

I'm on it. I have a wedding in LA in two and a half months!

lala: Excellent! I always do so much better with a little help from my friends... Perhaps if I can toe the line for seven days, the rest will fall into place.

Your list of fridge contents sounds yummy. I am envious of the mahi mahi - not something I have ever seen outside of Maui. Otherwise, mine is nicely stocked too. (Got rid of the remaining apple pie last nite. No, not by eating it - it got a little moldy sitting on the kitchen counter )

If fresh seafood is a mainstay in SPM, you should fare well. Parlez-vous un peu de francais, or will you be winging it and hoping for the best??

Susan,

Je parle francais, donc nous aurons un meilleur temps que les la plupart. J'espere. However, I won't count on it, its that getting used to all those different accents.

Now, my dearest should have considered taking her language qualifications last year, however she does okay in Paris and the environs. She goes at least once or twice a year and practices her essential phrases. I know she can order a couple of ballotins of chocolats at debauve and gallais and can feed herself, so I'm not worried.

However, say we were going to tell a farmer that his cow stepped on my camera. That will be a problem.

So, I had my delightful and small hazelnut truffle and I'm going to get a nice big glass of water to go with it.

See you all later!

Count me in too! This is just what I need to get myself back on track! I've been just gliding through each day rather than making sure I'm getting everything I need to.

I have a quote that I've kept in my purse and I came across it last evening, "You can change your deadline but you can't change your goal." It made me stop and think. I'm coming up on 4 years at my goal and want to be in my "comfort zone".

My goals:

1) Drink more water!
2) exercise--be it walking or my WATP tapes 5/7 days
3) Keep my points at 21
4) Stay out of the kitchen in the evening, i.e. night time snacks

These are all very do-able for me...it's just making the effort. Moving forward....

Good morning. I'm so excited. I actually put in a whole day on program, complete with water and exercise!!!! It wasn't even that painful - the hardest part was reminding myself every time I reached for something extra to eat last nite that this was not part of my plan. As I was getting ready for bed, I realized how good I felt! Not deprived at all!

I was so inspired, I walked to work this morning.

Thanks for joining me Melissa and lala. This is exactly what I need.

Hi everyone!

Phew--I had some weekend, so busy. On Friday, I chaired a seminar--we had 91 people attend and the speaker was awesome. I was a little apprehensive because he was our only speaker for the entire day, but he was just wonderful. We want him to come back.

Then on Friday, Saturday and Sunday I sang in a concert. It was very well received. We hope to do it again.

On Monday morning, I co-hosted a talk radio show. That was fun, although I was a little late getting there. It just flew out of my head.

I can say that being so busy, I didn't have much time to eat, so no weight gain.

Next week I head to San Francisco for some training. I'll be right downtown. Anyone have a favorite restaurant and/or something to see there?

Congrats, Susan, on sticking to it. Take it one day at a time.

Good morning!

Susan: Good for you!

I wish I had the same success yesterday. I had a sinus headache all afternoon and when I got home from work at 7:45 pm I had a point friendly dinner and then I decided later on that I needed a snack...should've just stayed put on the couch but I didn't....in any case I ended up with 30 point day....ugh! I did have 2 good things that I can say I did--got my water in and also got in a nice 2-mile walk at noon.

Today starts a new WW week for me so I'm beginning fresh today and this will mark the beginning of my week. I had a good breakfast and already have dinner planned. I am planning on using my WATP tape this evening as well.

Domina: I got tired just looking at all you did this past weekend! I haven't been to San Francisco so I can't recommend anything.

It's sunny here this morning but rain is supposed to move in later on. Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone,

Way to go Susan! Baby steps and we'll make it through the week!

I had a pretty good day too. Did the journalling, didn't eat over my points, got 80 oz. of water in and the exercise. Even managed to straighten up some stuff before bed. I really thought about a bowl of cheerios before bed and then said fuggedit.

Melissa - What is that phrase, NGAMO on the points. You got in your exercise and water and hopefully you are feeling better today.

Domina -- We used to spend lots of time in the East Bay. I know lots of good restaurants there, so if you want to venture over to Berkeley and eat at one of the best restaurants in the country (you may want to make reservations), then I would suggest Chez Panisse. Downstairs they do a menu dinner, but they are very accomodating. They have substituted things for me in the past. The cafe upstairs is very much more casual, but the cooking is great.

In Berkeley on Solano, there is a great restaurant called Rivoli. The chef used to work at Chez Panisse. It has a pretty room and its in a nice location.

In Oakland, there is Olivetos (again a Chez Panisse graduate, paul bertolli's restaurant), very nice.

In San Francisco, I like the South Park Cafe. Located, believe it or not, in South Park. Its very close to SF MOMA and Yerba Buena Gardens. South Park was famous during the dotcom days because every other startup was located near there. Its much quieter now.

There a hundred great restaurants located right near there.

Like I said, most of my time is spent in Berkeley, so I eat in either Oakland, Piedmont or Berkeley.

I would check out SFMOMA, maybe see what is going on at Fort Mason (interesting redevelopment), Golden Gate Park and hang out around Market, Divesidero and see the hip and happening things going on.

Things are pretty busy here. I am trying to finish up a project that requires formatting data and I am perplexed. I have decided time is relative and that will make my work much easier.

Time to think like a steller sea lion.

Domina: Whew - that's the quite the weekend you had. You make me feel like I'm standing still. Congrats on the successful conference. I know how stressful it can be - all that planning and organizing and hoping things go according to plan. Isn't it a huge relief when it's over? Have fun in SF. Looks like lala has given you lots of "thought for food."

lala: What does NGAMO mean? -- and move on?? What do sea lions think about?

Melissa: Ditto what lala said re the points (at least I think so). You always do so well once you make up your mind. BTW, what does WATP stand for?
