Default I need help.

I have been on ww for about a year now. I just recently got down to 132 in october and now all the sudden I am gaining about 1.6-2 pounds a week.
I just recently dropped my points down to 26 (but go up to 29 on weekend) and I get about 30-40 exercise points. I take a high intensity cardio class mon-thu and have dance on sunday for about 4 hours. I am extremelly active and feel like the weight i gained back is not muscle- its loading back on to my stomach.I weigh all my food out and only use about 10 extra points a week if that. I tried one week to eat all my bonus points and i gained then as well.
I need help, tips, or any experiences close to this. My ww leader does not know what to tell me! My leader has never seen a rapid weight gain to someone who follows the diet so closely.

I was just about to suggest the same thing. Definitely something that you should think about as that could account for the weight gain.

Is it possible that when you got down to 132 that was not a true reflection of your real weight? That is, had you been sick, or something else that might have shown your weight to be lower than it is really is? (Fluid fluctuations can go both ways).

Were you doing the same exercise then as now? Sometimes increasing intensity of exercise or doing different exercise can cause fluid retention?

How long have you been gaining every week? 2 weeks or 4 weeks or what? How much total have you gained?

Could your body be fighting you? I remember when I was in my mid-30s and my WW goal was 125 (I am your height). I actually got to lifetime but it wasn't a sustainable weight for me and I gained quickly.

Have you changed anything about the type of foods you eat?

The possibility of pregnancy aside, I would think that perhaps -- despite what WW or other charts or experts suggest -- your goal weight might be too low. Maybe your body's "set point" weight is higher and even though it allows you to drop down to 132, maybe it's just not comfortable? I'm not sure of the science behind this, but I've heard that each person's body has a place where it is most comfortable and will fight to get there if your weight gets too low.

I agree you need to look at how long you've been experiencing this rapid gain and how much you've gained total. Also, how does your body feel at this higher weight?

And I agree that you should examine the types of foods you're eating. If you suddenly are eating more carbs, sugar, sodium or processed foods, that could be the culprit.

I would also suggest a visit to the doctor. I don't know your age, but it could be hormonal and a doctor can run blood tests to tell you that. But there also are medical conditions that can lead to unexplained weight gain -- including hypothyroidism and, according to a web site I just looked at, polycystic ovary syndrome. Depression can also cause it. As can stress and not getting enough sleep.

Good luck!

Meg

I am not pregnant so that can be ruled out. I am 24 years old and my mom has thyroid issues- I always get the doctor to check it when i go and am always assured its fine.
I have cut gluten out of my diet lately because of it making me sick. Could that be what making me gain?
I have gone from 132.3-139.6 in 4 weeks.

Is it possible that you're over-training with the exercise? The way my kickboxing instructor explains it is, sometimes when we over-train the body holds onto weight as a way to keep it safe. Short term, it's water weight, longer term it ends up being fat. Maybe back off the cardio a little bit? Or take a water pill for a day or two to see if it's excess water?

Yeah I would say maybe you are actually not eating enough to fuel your workouts... maybe experiment with that? I usually have a smoothie with a bit of frozen fruit and milk and a scoop of whey protein for recovery right after a hard workout... that's just an example. But maybe start eating at least some of your APs?

I'm going to say ask you to look at what you are eating? Even if you are within your points, some foods are just bad for some people. IF you cut out gluten, are you replacing it with other gluten free things that may not be best for you? Are you heavy on dairy? Or carbs? dairy and wheat tend to put weight on the stomach but if you are gluten free.... you can probably rule out wheat I would think. Maybe try cutting out sugar for a week or two and see how it goes.
