Duh... now why would it take me five weeks to figure this out?

  • I'm averaging around 1.5 pounds a week in weigh loss, which I know is good and healthy and normal. But there are some weeks when I swear I follow that plan to a T and have something like a 3 ounce loss. After reading through this board yesterday, it hit me like a brick that I was misunderstanding the "zero points" for fruits and veggies issue.

I took it to mean that if you finish you daily Point Plus allowance (including your 5 to 7 servings of fruits and veggies), then you can *still* have all the fruits and veggies you want on top of that. I was eating like 2 cups of fruit at night over and above my daily points and 5 to 7 servings of fruit and veggies. I would have all my servings of fruits and veggies throughout the day, check them all off on the counter and then jsut eating more and more fruit at night just thinking "OK, it's free."

    DUH!

Really what you're supposed to do is *just* have the 5 to 7 servings of fruit and veggies, which ensures that you get a lot -- but not too much -- of good, filling food for zero points. It DOESN'T mean you can eat fruits and veggies all day and night without it affecting your losses. I cannot believe it took me so long to "get" that. Doofus!

I know this sounds like a stupid epiphany, but I was just blind to to reality of what "zero" points means. Maybe by admitting this, I might help some other delusional fool! LOL

  • At least you figured it out Better late than never!

But, yeah, once you have the 5-7 servings, you can still eat fruit and veggies, you just need to count the points (and with starchy veggies you need to count the points anyway). Those 2 extra cups would be 4 servings of fruit, almost an entire day's worth!
  • I like your phrase 'stupid epiphany". I'm sure I'll have many oppotunities to use it in the future. I tend to take things very literally!
  • Dont feel bad!!! I sometimes think in the beginning they arent exactly clear about this... when i went through my getting started meeting they made it sound like ALL FRUITS ARE FREE ALL DAY LONG! however, once i got home and read more into it, i figured it out!! So you are definately not alone on this!!!!
  • Thank you, ladies!

  • I'm with everyone else: Don't feel so bad!

Even those of us with years on WW are still learning things about the plans and how they work.

There are worse things you could've done to yourself than eat extra fruit. And now that you know, you'll adjust it and all will be perfectly fine!
  • I even try to limit daily fruit intake to 2 small portions - with the way they grow fruit these days it's hard to do that mindfully sometimes.
  • Thanks for your epiphany Meg, it will help me out I'm just starting out and thought the same thing when it was explained to me.
    Thanks again Carol

Just remember, a serving of fruit is 1/2 cup, which really isn't a lot once you start measuring it and will probably be different than a portion or a piece of fruit. To be extra careful, always measure it out
  • I didn't realize this either! Duh!
I need to go back and review all the written materials again.
