So, I'm a little annoyed because I'm not a person who truly enjoys eating raw fruits and veggies. There are very few of them that I can actually say I like and don't MIND eating every now and then. Well, I'm now coming to realize that I have an intolerance to grapes - one of the few fruits I didn't mind eating! I guess it's been going on for a while now where I notice after I eat grapes I get this gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach and I get nauseous. You know the feeling, like something's just sitting there not budging. Well, I made myself a fresh fruit bowl earlier today (red & green grapes, strawberries, pineapples, and blackberries) and this feeling is still persisting almost 4 hours later. After many times of this feeling happening, I've finally linked them to the grapes. To be honest, besides grapes I only actually like pineapples and oranges. I'm just upset that now my choices are even more limited for my fruit intake. I also find it ironic that after years and years of my sister watching me eat like crap and seriously asking me all the time "are you allergic to healthy foods or something???", that I'm now finding this out
I don't know what your typical diet is like but maybe it's the increased fiber from fruit that makes you feel that way. A typical junk food diet is generally high in refined sugars and low in fiber and a sudden increase in fiber can make you feel bloated, overly full, etc.
I would eliminate the grapes and still eat the other fruits that you like, limited as they are, and see if that makes a difference. Maybe you could also try different, unfamiliar fruit and veg and see if there are any new ones you like.
Yes, it is very frustrating as I'd like to eat more fresh fruits.
I get a decent amount of fiber I believe, but you're right, Spooky, it may very well be the amount of fiber in the grapes. I've tried out some kiwi before and I didn't mind it so hopefully I can actually find those around. You'd think I'd love every tropical fruit since I was born and raised in the Caribbean! Ah well, it'll be fun discovering new foods that I like
I can relate to you. After I joined WW and upped my dairy intake to 2 dairy items daily, my lactose intolerance came back! It was horrible! But now I am okay w/ any kind of dairy except yogurts or cottage cheese. Maybe it will pass like mine did! I just had to do no dairy for a few weeks and then slowly go back while doing a probiotic+dairy aid.
Sorry about your food intolerance. However, that is NOT a reason to give up and to stop trying. I have some health issues. One is a life threatening allergy to celery of all things. I do my best with it and so far I'm still here. : )
The other thing that I have is Diverticulosis. I cannot have nuts, seeds, popcorn, cabbage and certain lettuce. I can't eat broccoli and cauliflower and I must say that it's a pain to avoid all these things, but I manage.
What I concentrate on is what I can have and do the best I can with it.
Virgo, I think Spooky might be right. Try smaller amounts. Also, when a person from from low fiber to high fiber, gastric problems can happen. That was a very very good point.
Also, I do like apples, but I get tired of them, really tired. Due to my own food issues, they seem to be my "go to" food lots of the time. One thing I have done is cut up the apple in bit size peices and then I microwave it with Splenda sprinkled over top and cinnimon and nutmeg. I enjoy that with my breakfast and it truly changes it more to a dessert kind of thing.
I'll have a frozen toaster waffle, for example and put the cooked apple topping on it and then a spoonful of lite cool whip. It's more like dessert then. : )
So try a different approach with a few fruits, like cooking or making a smoothie out of them. Another good thing to do with an over-ripe banana is to freeze it and then put it in a blender, it's then like ice cream. A teaspoon of hersey's syrup is only 16 calories and not even a point. You can have the banana with the syrup on it and it's really quite good. Or mix the frozen banana with non-fat milk and make a smoothie. Be more creative!
I also used to buy baby food carrots, for example, and mix that with pancake batter for my kids who were refusing to eat veggies and I wanted them to be healthier. You can try that with various pureed fruits on your own.
