Looking for info about new WW program in Dec

I was mentioning to a friend of mine about maybe rejoining WW. She is a WW leader and said I might want to wait until Dec when they start a new program. She hasn't been trained about it yet. I am unsure about joining, learning and then learning something different in a matter of weeks. Any info about new program?

cookinmary 10-05-2010 02:16 PM

I think they keep pretty tight lipped about any new stuff. Make ya wait. I have heard as well, I think it was here someone mentioned it. I asked about it elsewhere and said they dont talk about new programs.

You can jon for free now, either online or go to meetings.

I will wait and see what is new with them.

atotallynewme 10-06-2010 06:35 AM

What do you think it could be? now im curious lol

cookinmary 10-06-2010 12:20 PM

Maybe its a vegan plan, with no added fats. McDougall program. Eat all ya want and count nothing. Eat your veggies, grains and starches and lose weight. Minimal processed foods, if any.

Maurene 10-07-2010 01:25 PM

There is a little discussion of this in the "momentum" sub-folder but no details.

I re-joined WW today. I'm not concerned about the program changing just 2 months after I started. Should help keep things fresh and interesting. And, if I don't like the new plan, I still have the materials for the old plan which I can follow.

Our leader vaguely hinted at some of the changes but not enough that I could gather any ideas about what the changes might be.

stratcat45 10-22-2010 02:31 PM

Though nothing is set in stone....I'm "hearing" (from boards and such) that the entire formula for calculating points will change. Now they're using Calories, Fat & Fiber; but apparently carbs and protein will be thrown into the equation. I started 6 weeks ago and when I wanted to buy the food scale, the instructor advised me not to as the system was changing and point values will be wrong.

I've also heard that fruits & veggies (with the exception of the starchy ones) will all be 0 points. And snacky things (100 calorie packs, etc..) will increase in points. Guess they want you to choose a fruit over a cake.

I'm hoping it isn't an overly drastic change....the program as is, is working so well for me! And it's something I *can* do!

gerly1 10-22-2010 07:02 PM

I am very curious about the new plan too. Have to wait and see I suppose. I am hoping that it is good!:D

QuilterInVA 10-23-2010 01:48 PM

And while you are waiting for the new plan, you could gain more weight. Why not start now?

KimberlyP 10-26-2010 10:03 AM

I'm glad I found this thread because I read about the program change in the new issue of Weight Watchers Magazine. For a minute there I got a little scared because I've really become comfortable with the program and have been on plan for 9 months. EEK! I wonder what they have in store for us, hopefully it doesn't leave us frustrated!

bannabanana 10-26-2010 02:04 PM

I am glad they are making more fruits and veggies 0! Sometimes if I am having a really bad day, I don't count the one-point fruits and veggies anyway, because I figure at least I ate too many apples instead of cookies! :)

I am excited to see what the new changes are! I am getting so savvy at the current system, I don't even need the slider anymore. So this will be good for me! :)

Tina 10-26-2010 06:40 PM

I'm also anxious to see the "new program." However, that doesn't mean you can't keep doing what's working for you.
Some people still use old, old books and continue to lose!

this is very true. At the end of the day...if the current plan works...then stick with it...especially if you've been doing it for a while, you know how the program works for you.

QuilterInVA 10-28-2010 01:40 PM

I've been on every plan since 1971 and each one has worked better than the last. I had over 30 years on maintenance in there.

I think everyone should give the new plan an honest 6-week trial. Then if you think the old plan was better go back to it but you can't say you are doing WW anymore.

glynne 11-03-2010 11:45 PM

At our meetings too they have mentioned changes coming in December. Our leader just tells us that it will be important to come to the meeting that day to learn about it. She says we will like it. I think she said that the leaders have been using the new plan for a few weeks ~ I couldn't hear all she said though.

She did say that the calculator we have now wouldn't work with the new plan, but that during the month of December they would be selling the new stuff (or some of it anyway) I think for 1/2 off.

One of the members mentioned like QuilterInVA did that she has been on the several different versions and they have all worked and each one has been better than the last.

It would be great if some of the fruits were zero points like the vegetables. I like vegetables, but sometimes that is just now what I have a taste for.

The points thing has seemed easy to me ~ I have pretty much been able to stick with it. I have messed up a few times, but it is not the fault of the program.

I am looking forward to finding out what these new changes are. Anything that will help me :)

Check this article out:
http:// www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/ article-1326447/Weight-Watchers-Pro-Points-plan-A- new-approach-dieting-success.html

Has some GREAT information. If this is the plan they are starting in the US in December I am all for it! Sounds like it is pretty successful for lots of people in the UK, and they officially released it there at the beginning of November. Can't wait! :)

glynne 11-04-2010 01:43 PM

Thank you Becca for the link to that article ~ that was helpful :)

WendyRN 11-08-2010 12:31 AM

I'm excited!!

I was scared to death :?: when I first heard about it because I'm not great at dealing with change, and Points as they are now have been a part of the program ever since I joined in 1998, but now I'm getting stoked and truly believe as successful as Weight Watchers is, they aren't going to make a change for the worse. As it was said earlier, each plan has been better (and more successful statistically) than the previous ones. From what I'm seeing and hearing it seems the higher protein foods will probably be counted lower points than the simple carb foods, which makes SO MUCH SENSE! I've turned down a lot of good healthy high protein foods because of the high point content and turned to high fiber granola bars or other simple carbs instead to take in less points and feel satisfied.

Sounds awesome! :carrot: I've been going around to all of my friends who whine about their weight and have been asking them to join with me when the new program rolls out the week after Thanksgiving! Maybe it'll be a great thing! I hope so! :D

veggiemama 11-08-2010 01:19 AM

Oh yay, maybe I can have some tempeh again?! :)

How pissed am I that I bought a cook book for WW before I knew of the changes...what the eff?

WendyRN 11-09-2010 01:16 AM

Marianne,

I have a bunch of WW cookbooks myself, but I'm not at home to look right now... can't remember, are just the POINTS values on the recipes or is the rest of the nutritional info there too? If it is everything, then from what it sounds like, we should still be able to figure it out fairly easily. I know what you mean, though. I have quite a few that I'll have to "adjust", I reckon.

gerly1 11-09-2010 06:36 PM

I am excited about the change. I feel like I am just now getting down the points system to have it all change in a few weeks. That kind of sucks.:( I will roll with the changes, I sure hope I can still have my Vitatops!:D

derrydaughter 11-09-2010 09:31 PM

I'm kind of nervous about the change, but will try hard to do my best.
I'm sure we'll get new points finders and those cookbooks that you now have wil be able to be adapted. They have changed the system before and all you need to do is figure out new points and go from there.
Also, from what I read on the two links people provided here (thank you) it's still almost the same old plan. I remember when they went to the CORE plan and offered that, lots of people got nervous too. I tried it and it was not for me as I run a household with too many people who do not want to eat things like brown rice. Oh well.
I would love it if all the fruits were free as there are sometimes when I am starving and need something. If fruits were free, I could eat a banana and not have to count 2 points for it. I'd be delighted with something like that.
Hunger is not fun.

pageta 11-10-2010 09:31 AM

I must confess, I've started not counting fruit for points, and I'm experiencing great success. The plateau I've been on for the last eight weeks seems to be ending. It think it's because I won't overeat fruit but it helps fill me up so I don't overeat things that would be more deadly (like nibbling grapes rather than grated cheese while making supper.

I was thinking that last night...when I coudln't sleep...I'll have to see if the nutritional info is listed. I'm hoping so because there's a ton of good recipes in there.

derrydaughter 11-10-2010 02:25 PM

Pageta, I did count the points for the banana I ate after lunch as my "dessert" today, but I did it without worrying quite as much about eating a whole vs. a half banana. I was going to have a 100 calorie pack of chips with my "WW grilled cheese" and decided I'd skip the chips and eat the banana instead. I'm feeling OK. I love the crisp chips and saltiness of it, but I decided to see how I could mange with adding fruit. I had a couple of pickles along with the sandwich and that seemed to help a bit and they are zero points.
By the way, I make a "WW grilled cheese" by spraying butter spray (the pump stuff sold by the margarine in stores) on two slices of lite bread and putting a cheese slice in between and grilled. It's 3 points and it's pretty good. Today I added a very think slice of ham and went for a 4 point sandwich and it was good. I sometimes make the WW garden vegetable soup and have that on the side with the 3 point version if I am going to have a high point dinner at night. It's comforting and filling.
I've not made that soup as, unfortunately, I have diverticulosis and I am worried about seeds and cabbage. I'm thinking of making my own version of that soup that will work within what I can eat.

Clydegirl 11-10-2010 03:43 PM

Our leader loves the new programme. They have all been on it in our area. She has lost 5 lbs since starting it. She's not saying anything about it until it is formally announced.

She said that Jennifer Hudson used the new programme and had great success with it.

I am excited to do something new because I need some inspiration as I've been losing and gaining the same 5lbs for months.

derrydaughter 11-11-2010 07:27 AM

I was also doing that gain and lose the same 5 pounds thing, for the last several years. I'm tired of it.
When I returned to WW a few weeks ago, it was with a heavy sigh. I almost went to Jenny Craig or something else as I have kind of had it with the points, journals and all that stuff. But, I am even more tired of having these extra pounds on my body and not doing anything about it.
So, I shall forge on and I hope the new program will breath life into my lacklustre efforts. I wish we had it right now.

LitChick 11-12-2010 10:00 PM

I'm really excited and can't wait to get all the plan details! I think it will help us make even better nutritional decisions and eat foods that help our bodies and our weight loss goals. I just hope it's as easy to grasp as the current plan as far as how to calculate points. :D

All of the WW cookbooks I have give the nutritional information as well as the points value, so it will just be a matter of recalculating those points and writing over the old value. I am a little bummed that my points-scale and calculator will no longer be valid but I did get my money's worth out of them.

derrydaughter 11-13-2010 07:14 AM

Maybe the new points finder will be able to be used or there will be an easy way to calculate differences? I have tons of recipes that are not WW ones and still use them. I'm very good (and fair I think) at estimating points of various foods. However, I do hear that carbs will play a huge role and this could change what we might want to be cooking. There could be substitutes, such as brown rice or whole grain pasta?

go to weight watchers in england. there will be a site that has the diet. It looks great. It will have free veggies and fruits. it starts november 28th. I can not wait.

QuilterInVA 11-13-2010 05:43 PM

Fruits and vegetables are not free. They are 0 points for one serving but multiple servings eaten at the same time can have points. There is a difference between free and 0 point.

Meikmeika 11-13-2010 08:50 PM

It's been a while since Weight Watchers has made a dramatic change. The points formula has been the same for some time now.

Guess it's time for a change.....

derrydaughter 11-14-2010 10:50 AM

Every couple of years they tweak the program. Sometimes I think it is truly as they have learned through research as well as trial and error what works best. However, at other times, I think the changes and "new program" they advertise is a market tool.
They are a business like any other.
I will assess whatever this new program may be and I look forward to it. But, if I find it hard to follow, I can always stay with what I have now. The main difference for me is that I actually have to stick with it and live the program for it to work. This program we now have will work if I follow it.
So, as our holiday season approaches and more and more eating opportunities come my way, I have to find a way to live, eat, have good times but not over indulge - or when I do overindulge I need to make up for it.

QuilterInVA 11-14-2010 03:14 PM

This is the first major plan change since points came out 13 years ago. I heard the same remarks then about how much better the old program was and how many were not going to change. Nothing changes when it comes to human behavior.

I look forward to the new plan. I've been on every WW plan since the beginning and each one has worked better than the one before.

derrydaughter 11-15-2010 06:17 AM

I seem to recall that "major change" thing being brought up a few years ago with the CORE plan, we shall all see soon.
I started WW in 1991 and have tried each plan since. I'm a lifetime member. One thing I have learned all these years since reaching goal for the first time is that no plan will make or break my success (though it can surely help) what truly makes me a success is ME and what effort I put into it. I'm here and I am motivated, so whatever the new program is will hopefully add to my accomplishments?

wollygirl 11-15-2010 08:46 PM

December 6th

I am doing the WW on-line program and received an email that information will be on-line Dec. 6th. Very curious to see what it will look like.

BigDaddy 11-15-2010 10:22 PM

I found a calculator for the new ProPoints in Europe. If the new US program is like this, it will definetly be a whole new deal. :)

http://www.wijvallenaf.nl/Weight-Wat...alculator.html

zanheltangia 11-16-2010 10:09 AM

Dang. If I am entering this in right, my High Fiber oatmeal just went from 3 points a packet (current plan) to 4.9 points a packet (judging by that calculator link). I didn't like the oatmeal anyway, haha, but it's an example:

Calories: 160
Fat: 2g
Total Carbohydrate: 34g
Dietary Fiber: 10g
Protein: 4g

But if 29 is the new lowest daily, I go back up from my current 27 points anyway. :D

Baked Chicken, no skin, 4oz:
Calories: 140
Fat: 3g
Total Carbohydrate: 0g
Dietary Fiber: 0g
Protein: 27g

Currently 3 points, propoints calculator 3.2 pts.

This will be... interesting :s:

This was from the WW blog this morning:

Hoping this works. You need that http thing with the : and the two / before you put the rest in your browser.

There’s been so much buzz about the changes that are coming to Weight Watchers, that we thought we’d answer a few of the key questions. So, here’s what you’ve been asking us:

Why the change? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?
While the current plan works and has worked for millons of Meetings members and Online subscribers it’s important to note that science is continually evolving, which means Weight Watchers needs to change too. We want to make sure our members and subscribers have the most up-to-date information they need to lose weight and keep it off. You will find that the new program changes will make following the Weight Watchers plan even more flexible.

Will those of us who subscribe to Weight Watchers Online get all the new info? Do we have to do anything?
When you log on to the site on November 29th, we will walk you through the new program, step by step. There will also be guides, videos, and games to help you have a successful transition to the new program.

Can I continue to use my iPhone app?
The iPhone app will be updated to support the new program. It should be available to download on November 29th. We will also have Blackberry, Android, and Windows Phone 7 calculator apps shortly after the new program launch.

Is fruit free on the new program?
Yes – you can eat all fruit until you are satisfied.

Is all fruit free? Even bananas??
Yes even bananas!!

Even… mangoes???
Yes even mangoes!!!
