OK, so y'all know that I went to visit a now former friend and stayed there for 9 days. During those 9 days, I did not see a fresh fruit or vegetable. We ate out EVERY DAY, most often TWICE a day, at places where there were absolutely NO healthy choices on the menu (Does Five Guys ring a bell?). Salads couldn't be ordered with dressing on the side. Everything was pub food. Deep-fried EVERYTHING. I did the best I could. I would order the appetizer only, and eat as little as possible. It was completely aggravating!
So, at the end of only 9 days, I. GAINED. THREE. POUNDS. Arghh!!!
I am back on track now, and know that it will take me 3 weeks to lose the three pounds as I am a complete weight loss turtle.
So! I'm bummed.
Just thought I'd share...
Kira
Sorry to hear, Kira....it sounds like you've had a frustrating couple of days!
The good news is that now that now you can get right back on track. Eating healthy and exercising will probably be enough of a shock to your body to get things moving in the downward direction. I seriously doubt you actually ate enough to gain 3 real lbs...I bet it's mostly water retention from all the salt that's in restaurant food. I totally sympathize with your frustration, as I am also a major turtle when it comes to weight loss, but give it another week and see how it goes when that sodium works its way out of your system...
Sometimes we encounter these events/trips/weeks in life where we don't have much control over what we're eating. I've definitely been there, as I'm sure many others have too. Just remember- it's just one week of your life, and you've come SO far already...Don't feel bad! Being in a situation that's out of your control is not a failure. The most important part is mental, and as you said you're ready to get back at it.
You can do this!! Sending big weight loss vibes your way
Thanks!
Just venting! And this goes to show how things can go pear-shaped (like my butt! Hahahaha!) when we have little control over food preparation and food choices...We were at a restaurant and seriously, the BEST thing on the menu was a quesadilla! Not so bad -- other options were jalapeno poppers, deep-fried mozza sticks, 1/2 lb burger with cheese in the middle, grilled cheese sandwiches -- so I thought that one flour tortilla, chicken, no sauces and a request to cut the cheese in half, with no sour cream/etc. would be a great choice.
Well, I didn't know that one could DEEP FRY a quesadilla...yup, they cut up the quesadilla, breaded it and deep fried it. I had no idea -- it wasn't on the menu listed as such! Blech...
Thanks for the vibes and I'm back on plan, and we'll see what happens in a week!
Kira
OK, so here are the official stats:
Since I've been back on plan for the past full 7 days, I'm down.............................................. .................................................. ........... 3.5 lbs!!! So all of the 3 lbs plus 0.5 for the week.
I'm thrilled!
Thanks all for the support!
Kira
Wow Kira! I was going to commiserate with you but you've already kicked the butt of those 3 lbs! Good for you!!
Being out of my food control zone is the hardest thing for me. We can only choose from what's presented to us sometimes! You did what you could and had a blip, but you are a perfect example that recovery can happen quickly!
i know exactly how you feel... i went to my second meeting (week 2) this month and was disappointed with my results to say the least. up a pound... i've eaten better than i have for a long time, i've done quite a bit of exercise, more than i was doing before, and really limiting myself with my caffeine intake even though its given me some killer headaches... i don't know what else to do to keep myself positive... just gotta soldier on! if i went up 1lb this week i'll go down 3 or 4 next week... it is hard though to hear your up when you've worked hard to go down.
i'm glad to see you got right back on track and kept going. hopefully i'll be able to start fresh tomorrow, moving forward and follow in your footsteps! keep up the good work!
Hi all! k8zilla -- the exact SAME thing happened to me on week 2 when I started exercising alot. It was completely discouraging as I had done everything right. I just forgot that if one really works out, one tends to retain fluid in the muscles as your muscles are repairing themselves. It'll wash out of your system in the next couple of weeks. So hang in there, because exercise IS important! You can get back on plan, as it is never too late to give it 100%. At times like that, I wish I could go to the grocery store and buy a super-sized package of PATIENCE!
