Hi Gang!

I have missed you guys! I have been really sick. I have had the flu along with sinusitus and bronchitis (sp?). I have been out of work since last Wednesday and now I am going stir crazy. It is so good to see everyone back posting again. I have to go back and catch up and see who else crawled out of the woodwork but I wanted to start us a new thread since the other one was over 30 posts.....I'll be back

Good Mornin' to Ya All!

It's great to see everyone's posts again. I have to admit I do more lurking than posting though!

I had weigh-in today and lost another lb. (for a total of 123lb. lost) Wow, it really seems to be a lot more work to take off these pounds now than it was when I first started. Does anyone else seem to be finding this?

One great bonus though is that I feel GREAT! I had my blood preassure taken at a clinic at work and the doctor congratulated me on being in such good cardiovascular shape. He said that my pressure was excellent (109/61) and that my pulse rate was that of an athelete! I guess it goes to show that excersise is a great benifit to your health besides helping you lose weight.

I hope that everyone else is doing well!

Hi Everyone!

I am FINALLY feeling better. This flu stuff is bad this year. I am on my 2nd round of antibiotics.

Mare-You can't get rid of me . It's been a long time. Hope you are doing well.

Leeloo-Congrats on the loss! You are kicking butt!

I am turning a new leaf this week. I am NOT going to work overtime. I am going to work my hours of 8am-4pm and leave on time..it will be there the next morning. I realize I am more important. I had been working so much my immune system was shot and that's why the flu hit me worse than it should have. Plus that will give me more time to post and keep in touch.

I have an appointment with my doc Friday for a complete physical so I hope to get back on my thyroid medication...I will never let that run out and just stop taking it again...and I am going to talk to him about the new medication I am taking for the migraines because I am gaining about 1-2 pounds per week...my feet are so swollen you would think I was pregnant.

I figure after the doc Friday and rejoining WW then next day I should start kicking butt again really soon...like you guys.

Hope you have a great week!!!

Setina: I generally post on other threads, but I've been reading from this one for a while now. I don't want to butt in, but well . . . I guess that's what I'm doing anyway.

The reason I'm writing is your mention of your thyroid. I was told several years ago that I had the problem, but was never told ANYTHING about it and was never even given a pamphlet to read. Well, just a couple weeks ago, I found a website that really opened my eyes. If you want more info this is very helpful: www.miningco.com On another thread Lauren said that she couldn't get to it directly, so this is how I found it originally: Go to Yahoo. Click on Health, Diseases, a page comes up with the alphabet, click on T. Another page comes up with diseases that start with T. I clicked on the Thyroid link. There was a list of sites that came up. I clicked on MiningCo.

I never knew that it could be the cause of my brittle fingernails, my snarled hair, hair loss, joint pain, high cholesterol, etc. Somewhere on that site is a page of symptoms. It is very interesting. Last week a searched other places and learned that vitamins with iron, anything with calcium (including orange juice), and birth control pills should be taken 3 hours apart from your thyroid meds. (Something else I was never told.)

I hope this helps.

Annie, this time the link worked. I found the thyroid section at http://thyroid.about.com/health/thyroid/mbody.htm and boy, is it comprehensive! Thanks for the tip.

Hello Everyone,

I was off the wagon for a couple of weeks, but am back OP as of today. I needed a change, so I am changing my weigh-in day from Friday to Monday. Hopefully, this will keep me honest on the weekends. Last time I posted I had gained 3 lbs after the second week OP, but I was feeling OK about that. Then the next week (last Friday - 2/23) I gained 2.5 lbs and then over this past weekend I gained 4 more lbs. My blood pressure has been really high and I am really starting to get worried, so I am going back on the points today and am actually going to ride the stationary bike tonight. I am going to start out slowly and only do 10 minutes per day this week and then gradually increase the time to 20 minutes.

I feel very optimistic about losing the weight this time and it helps to have our old crew back. And I don't mean old as in "old", Cynthia. I have a few events coming up this year that will work as goals for me. One of them is, a friend of mine is getting married in early July and I would love to get down to around 260 lbs by then. That coincides with an annual big beach party that we have around the 4th of July, so that is double incentive to lose the weight.

I don't wear suits to work anymore as my company as gone to a totally dress down policy and as of now I only have one suit that I can squeeze into. I wore that suit on February 9 at my daughter's father/daughter dance and I felt very uncomfortable in it. As a matter of fact I didn't even take my jacket off all night long and it was very hot in the school. I hope to have a choice of suits on the day of my friend's wedding. Choosing my clothes for work has become a real hassle too, as I only have 3 or 4 pair of pants that I can fit into (only 1 comfortably) and I've been wearing sweaters alot to cover up the fat. It’s getting warmer out, so I will be in trouble soon!

Hopefully, I can stay with the points, lose weight and get my blood pressure down so I don’t have to going on meds. I had a check up towards the end of last year and my doctor told me to get my pressure down or he would start me on meds. I was able to lose weight in the following few weeks, went back for a follow-up and my pressure was normal, so I know that it is totally related to my weight. I went to a Urologist on Wednesday (everything’s fine) and my pressure was something like 150/96. Didn’t tell my wife that they even took my pressure. Hope to get it checked in the medical office at work in couple of weeks and it be normal. It is also interfering with me donating blood, they won’t take it if my pressure is high.

Talk to you guys soon!

Hi, Everyone.

I used to belong to this group about a year ago. Had to leave for personal reasons. But I'm back on track with my "healthier me" program and wanted to rejoin you all.

You were all so supportive before and I'm happy to see no only most of the original crew but quite a few newbies.

This is just a quick note letting you know I was back on track. I'll send a longer one later (I'm at work now -- boss will be back from lunch soon).

------------------
Wishing success to us all!

Hi Everyone!

Annie-You butt in anytime! Thanks so much for the information. I never heard that about the medications and OJ/BC pills etc until I heard someone talking about it the other day. I was never told about that either. I am going to check out that site tonight! I REALLY appreciate you letting me know about it. Keep on posting!

Lauren-Thanks for that link too..I will check to see what will let me in. It's amazing what the thyroid controls.

Max-Missed you! Sounds like you do have some good incentives. I am like you on clothes and have hardly any I can wear. I refuse to buy any bigger. I think after I get on my thyroid med, stop taking the preventative migraine med that is not working and get back to WW Sat that I might can squeeze into some things soon . We go to the beach every year and I am hoping we can this year. My hubby just started a new job but we found out he does get a week as of August and that's usually when we go..of course he is on the bottom of the ladder so we have to see...I hope your blood pressure improves..you be careful..we can't have anything happen to our Max.

Hi Joanne! It's been ages. Glad you came back. It's funny how we all started checking in around the same time.

By the way..I miss Carolynn too...anyone heard from her? If you are lurking come out and play Carolynn.

I had a pretty decent first day back after being out so long. I was basically forced into 2 hours of overtime and I did it, trying not to stress and left my manager a very very very long message tonight telling her that I need to talk with her tomorrow and things are going to change or I would like to go back to my other department..she is great and I know she will help me out.

I better get to bed..Hope you all have a great evening!

Hey all,

Setina - Glad to see you back posting. Hope this thread gets rocking, as my other threads have slowly died off. I miss the daily activity, though I usually just lurk. Not much to post lately.

I am stuck in my yearly rut. I have been trying to be faithful to the exercise. My kids have a month or so off now before baseball/softball games start, so I am using March as "MY MONTH". I wanted to do this in February, and actually started out okay, but fizzled in the end. I really need a month to break my new plateau and try to get to 100. I would be very estatic if I could do this by my third WW anniversary in early June.

Have to get to work now. Just wanted to let you all know I would like to join you this time. I mostly lurked when this was going well a couple of years ago. At that point 100 pounds was so far away!! Now it is within "seeing" distance.

Setina: A lady at work subscribes to Prevention magazine and brings them into work. I know that there is one with an article concerning herbs and it specifically mentioned migraines. (I remember it, because two people I know suffer from them.) But I can't seem to find that issue right now. (I think it was about feverfew, which is also mentioned below.) I did look over a couple other issues and found this in Prevention's March 2001 issue (page 121).

"Two supplements, riboflavin and magnesium, are under study as potential migraine relievers . . . patients who take 400 mg of the B vitamin riboflavin daily (the amount used in studies) have a 50% decrease in the frequency, duration, and severity of their migraines.

"'The study that showed the best evidence for magnesium supplementation was in patients with menstrually associated migraines, especially premenstrual migraine . . . specialists across the US . . . recommended 400 to 600 mg of chelated magnesium on a daily basis'"

In regard to feverfew: ". . . some studies show that a capsule a day can be helpful to prevent migraines . . . a standardized tableted extract providing the equivalent of 0.25 to 0.50 mg pathenolide - feverfew's active ingredient - may begin to help within about 2 months."

I must say that because herbal remedies aren't regulated at all, one should ask/tell their doctor that they are interested in the herb. Be sure the herb isn't going to interact with another drug or dangerously thin the blood.

Lauren: There is an article that I found while looking for the above info in regard to hypothyroidism. I haven't read it yet. Prevention's November 2000 issue, page 67.

I've been going through some really emotional stuff over the past couple of weeks. I did really great until Sunday. I ate lots of pistachio nuts for lunch. Oh well.

Mare: Hope things start to settle down for you. Emotional eating has to be the worst, doesn't it? Take care of you first, the rest will fall into place.

Watermelon: So glad to be able to help. That's what we're here for!

Hi Everyone!

Annie-You are so right, I love the support here!

Hope you all had a great day. I had another rough day. 2 more hours of overtime, that makes almost 7 hours in 3 days for someone who was out almost 2 weeks sick...my manager knows I am upset. The project plan I need to help me out was emailed out this afternoon. I am praying I will see the light at the end of the tunnel soon...and hopefully it's not a train.

Have a great day!

Setina
