TOPS has changed. In the 90's when I first joined, the pledge still reads "even though I overeat in private, my excess poundage is there for all the world to see how foolish I have been." However there was no oinking or embarassment doled out for gains.

Hubby and I joined in August, and our club wanted to keep the "how foolish I have been." This week I read of people who tried TOPS and didn't return because of that phrase, so I'm going to tell my group tonight and ask that we reconsider removing the phrase.

Personally, I never liked the phrase, but just eliminated it in my head. Now I recite the pledge with the rest of the group, but just stay silent during that phrase. Hubby doesn't mind one way or the other and just reads it as written (although I'm not sure he is REALLY paying attention to the pledge at all as he recites it).

One of the best things to know about TOPS is that anyone can start their own charter with just 3 to 5 members (I don't remember the actual minimum). You can also join and belong entirely online.

The tops.org website has a lot of helpful tools, you can join online and/or find local chapters and when they meet.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE TOPS and can't say enough wonderful things about it.
