Default Pirate Booty - ALERT

Hi,

I normally don't post here but I know lots of you folks eat Pirate Booty's because they are low fat and low calories (low points). I used to buy them all the time.

Well there is an article in this months Good Housekeeping about these cheese snacks. They arent as good for you as you think.

As per Good Housekeeping the packaging says it has 2 (or 2.5) gm of fat per serving when in fact GH sent it out to be tested and it has more than 8 gm of fat per serving. The owner said oh well there's nothing we can do about the bags that are on the market but we will correct it in future packaging.

I am reading more and more of these kind of things and no wonder we have a hard time losing weight (well I do anyway).

Hope this helps !

Love Leens

Omigosh, Leens! What a shock! Thank you SO much for posting this. We are (now, *were*) big fans of Pirate's Booty, but didn't have it around much because I had to order it over the 'net. However, a local store is carrying it now, and we'd started buying it again. Whoa, Nellie!

I found the article online, in case anyone wants to read it:
http://magazines.ivillage.com/goodho...415053,00.html

Turns out a 1 ounce serving is 147 calories and 8.5 grams of fat!! And the online article said they have decided to do a recall, now.

Again, thanks, Leens!!
Regards,
Jan

Default Manufacturer is posting his explanation...

for the change to the Nutrition Facts. I found this in a couple of locations on the web:

"An open letter to our consumers and family

Recently due to our growth we've had to expand our manufacturing capabilities to adjust to market conditions and create a more consistant product that is better suited to meet the demands of our growing business.

With that in mind, we have had to install new machines that make Pirate's Booty, Veggie Booty, and Fruity Booty. These new machines run faster, make a lighter, puffier and superior product that taste great. Due to these changes in manufacturing there was a need to adjust the amount of cheese to the Pirate's Booty and in turn the nutrition facts have changed. These Changes have made Pirate's Booty a more consistent and better snack.

(Please refer to the Nutrition facts box to the left)

We are continually striving to create and provide you with the best snacks on the planet

Thanks for your continued support.

Robert"

So folks, this is the new nutritional info Robert was talking about for the cheese booty. The new Nutrition Facts still have lower calories and lower fat than reported in the GH article:

Default Consistent or Profitable?

Well, it might be a more consistent snack, but it's certainly not so good for us now. I know I'm a cynic: but he probably realized that he'd make more money marketing to non"dieters" -- they eat more! So, another good snack bites the dust.

I cant belive this. It truely saddens me, that there might be a chance the manufactures knew what they were doing. We, as weight conceicous people throw our money into the lowfat food market week after week. And its like every time we turn around, someone is trying to screw us over. Its just not fair!

Calorie-wise, this isn't so bad. It went from 120 calories, to 128. That's not that big of an increase.

Fat-wise, it went from a low fat snack to a moderate fat snack. Still better than Cheetos, though, at least.

The Big Daddy fiasco was much worse: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/show...?threadid=6597

Quote:
It has just been reported on our Atlatna CBS station on the noon news that the BIG DADDY has been labeled incorrectly!
Label now states Big Daddy has 100 calories and 3 grams of fat. Correct label should read 300 calories and 7 grams of fat. This changes the WW point. Instead of the entire carton which is 12 ounces for 1 point, it should be 3 oz. for 1 point. What a Bummer!!

Thanks for posting this info. I copied out the page from your link and brought it to my meeting this morning. My WW leader shared it with the rest of the group. They were all grateful for the knowledge.

Default This infuriates me

I think these companies should be held accountable for false labelling. And, the stores that carry it should be furious as well.
I've heard so many stories like this and it frustrates me. Do we have to go back to non-processed/non-packaged foods to have greater confidence in what we're eating?

Heard this also and just dumped my two bags. I knew they increased the fat grams to 5 per serving but can only imagine what they really are now. The product was tested when they were saying that there were 2.5 grams of fat.

I have emailed the owner/president of the company.
