We have a wee skiff of snow this morning but it sooo windy!

My legs are nicely achey this morning. My butt was still feeling Wednesday's workout so I did more calf & quad things and some leg heavy aerobic dance stuff. Weight lifting is so versatile, yes?

Hi LWL,

Frus, mel - Thanks! I can hardly believe that its true, I am up into my ears on financing issues, but I am certainly looking forward to it !

nelie - great about the kitty! I love cats. Unfortunately the one we have now urinates indoor, so she is now an outdoor cat, but I have always had cats around.

Pat - 20 cm of snow??? I have to look at that webcam abain! It is about 10 C overhere. We have head wind from the south in the past month, and we have the warmest autumn in 300 years (or practically..since they started recording)

Still no exceercise on my side.. much to excited and busy. it is amaxzing how much I have to keep awake to ensure that i get the mortgage deal that is most profitable for me. A lot of advices and assumptions from my financial advisor are based on a standard situation, which I do not have, so really really have to keep my eyes open to decide what is best for ME.

And another non scale victory ( not even weight related): I managed to bust the virus in this PC that DS aquired, AND I managed to upgrade the graphic performance on his PC by replacing the graphics card with a better one. I know 16 year old kids seem to do this type of thing routinely, but as it was the first time for me to open up my own PC, I still am patting myself on the shoulder for that. Another instance, again, that if you have not tried, you do not know what you can do.

Have a great day all,
Rabbit

I posted in the general chatter forum about her but I can't wait until she comes home. I have to go through an interview process and all that... but here is the pic of my baby.

But...she wan't always smiling through the process

Mel
No kidding! Now I am pumped. This sounds like a terrific goal for me. I did five modified pushups this morning, but I'm quite certain that my form was lousy (couldn't see the mirror). So, my plan is to first strive for five modifieds in good form. Then I'd like to usher in 2007 with six or seven. I'm just in the process of signing up for a round of personal training sessions and I'll ask the PT to add them to my routines and to monitor how I'm doing them.

Speaking of this morning's workout, I suspect I'm going to pay for it. It was one of those mornings when everything felt good and I may have overextended myself ... KWIM But the gym was almost deserted; the equipment was all mine; and the lifting was easy. I expect to early tonight.

Nellie, I love your new family member. What a doll. I can't imagine life without our pooches and I know this little missy will bring you much joy.

Rabbit, I have absolutely no doubt you'll make the best decisions for your circumstances simply because you've been doing that right along. That doesn't make the process any easier, but I'm confident it will all work out perfectly. And congrats on taking apart that computer. I did that once and afterward I was astounded that it wasn't any harder than it was (although I did hesitate when it came to pulling out the mother board). It sort of struck me the same as budgeting. Have you ever heard the male of the species talk about the trials and tribulations of setting, say, a department budget? Well, heck, if you can balance a checkbook and run a household, you can rectify a departmental account and set its budget ... all you add is zeros. Sheesh. Those guys ... gotta love 'em

SusanB and Pat, there but for the grace of the snow gods go I. We escaped the storm, and today, as I type, the sun is pouring in the window. ' Course, it was 17 degrees this morning, but it's still dry. Whew!

Cindy, hope you can grab some exercise. It will make you feel 100% better. I am extremely fortunate in that I can push my starting time in the morning to allow a trip to the gym. It means I stay later but I've decided it's a good tradeoff for me. When I don't work out, I feel like heck and I'm not nearly as effective. Be kind to yourself.

Greetings to Frus (hope those bruises are healing), Fran, and everyone else to post.

to all you - hope you are enjoying your weekend! I have done a major grocery shopping and planning suddenly became much easier! Just needed food to plan with. We also went to our church bazaar today and had our photo taken with Santa! (He's a friend.) We don't have any kids or grandkids to show off, so we'll send family photos of us. The gal taking the photos (another friend) will send me the picture electronically, so I'll post it here for you all to have a good laugh! Other than that, a quiet day. Got some stuff done for Christmas, have a beef marinating for stir fry, and a good book for the evening. Love quiet weekends! It's also only about 10, though since it's clear and the moon is nearly full, and we have fresh white snow, it's a gorgeous evening!

Robin (and others) I am so jealous of your PTs. I've mentioned before I think that we have ony 1 at our gym. I don't even know if he's certified, but he only works part-time there, and from what I've seen he's really into macho bodybuilders, giving most women identical programs, and heavily flirting. Not what I'm looking for. Susan Artmaker - want to do a house call to Alaska???

Hi LWL,

Just zooming by! I am enjoying a good weekend at home...lots of laundry cardio, picking up cardio, maybe even vacuuming cardio in my near future! Things are looking good!

Robin - thanks for the comments, I guess I know what you mean...maybe the males are plain better in showing off ? I posted the buddha motto on my fridge.

Have a great weekend all,
Rabbit

I'm not sure what to expect. Last time, I worked with a woman who's about my age. I liked her, although I would have liked more of a task master. However, I didn't pursue that with her because she only works late mornings and afternoons, and I need someone in the early hours.

So, I talked with the fitness director and she has one of two folks in mind for me. Both younger men, but both of whom, she says, are keen to work with older clients (they'd have to be, working at this particular Y where the average client is an adult). One, in particular, used to work at the university but left because he didn't feel as if he could help in a setting that is all about flirting and less about working out. Also, I'm in better shape than I was when I met the former trainer. So, we'll see.

Interestingly, I told the fitness director that I was mulling over earning ACE certification for myself, and she was extremely enthusiastic. She said there's a huge need for mature trainers who want to work with mature clients. So, I continue to muse.

But first things first: I've got 10 pushups to master.

Mel - we're about 50 miles NE of Anchorage - on the road system! Juneau is not on the road system (i.e. you have to get there by plane or ferry). And it's a couple hour plane flight from Anchorage to Juneau.

Oh Fran, it's the same old story - a man! We were living in NH in the early 70's and I got accepted to grad school in Seattle. DH - having been to Alaska one summer - decided it would be a good time to move here. He got a summer job as a guide on the Chilkoot Trail (Yukon gold rush 1898) which involved hiking the trail from Skaway, AK into Canada, then canoeing the Yukon to Whitehorse. From there he came to Anchorage, and the rest as they say is history. I spent 73/74 in grad school, with breaks in Alaska, then moved here permanently in June of 74. But yes, we both grew up in southeastern Massachusetts, went to college at UMass Amherst (where we met). Aren't you glad you asked?
