I think there is something called "overtraining" that could impair your progress and cause you to not shed pounds, but I think that's waaay beyond 20 minutes and applies more to someone doing hours of cardio each day w/o enough caloric intake as well. That actually happened to a guy on the Biggest Loser show last nite. (Wylie) The traininer (Bob) was talking about having to watch him bc he would get up early and do his hike, and then a bunch more cardio thruout the day to where the trainer had to get on to him about doing too much. And sure enough, he lost zero pounds this week, when everyone else was losing 7-8. But that's a totally different story than what you would be doing in your own home.
I'll just put my 2 cents about BFL cardio... If I remember correctly the 20 minutes of cardio is HIIT cardio, very high intensity, and that's why it's only for 20 minutes... There is also 5 minutes of warm up and cool down, so that makes a total of 30 minutes of cardio... I hope I am remembering that correctly...
But I have to do more cardio than that otherwise I don't feel like I'm working out... But that's just me...
It was raining this morning so I short-cutted and came in with 23 minutes over heart rate .... hmmm ... so, yup, I went back out this evening. I feel better.
I did my cardio at lunch, but was feeling REALLY draggy after dinner. I mean, really.....like am I getting sick or TOM blah. Plus, my glutes were achy.
SO, I took action - I decided to go down and do tomorrow's lbwo TONITE! I did that and felt SOO much better I have enough energy to do the rest of the stuff I needed to instead of just crawling in to bed.
My kids have figured it out too. I'm a witch late in the day but they know that if they ask me anything after I workout, the answer is always a real sweet, mmmhmm, sure, okay. I yes my life away when my endorphins are speakin'! I think they're on to me! I see the manipulation in their eyes!
I had some good things and some bad things yesterday.
Cardio was good, I'm seeing improvement.
Food was bad. Peanutbutter ... potato chips ... dear dear dear dear dear!
Oh Susan, now you and I are going to have to stay strong together next week! You move away from the PB & PC and I'll walk alot with my mouth SHUT at Disney World!
Peanut Butter is not bad. Unless, of course, it is a trigger food for you. But, in moderation, natural peanut butter is a great source of healthy fat. Don't beat yourself up over a little bit of Peanut Butter. Your body needs some of that good fat.
Potato chips on the other hand.....
On the meals that you allow yourself a starchy carb ( a healthier starchy carb), try slicing up a sweet potato, or half of a sweet potato, really thin and baking them on a baking sheet with a little bit of Pam. This might not totally replace a craving for potato chips but it might help blunt it a bit.
You sound like you are doing great. There is always going to be a little bad with the good. Remember, it's all about progress not perfection. Keep up the great job!
Thanks again for the link Susan. I love this thread! It is great to find people that are doing the same thing that I am.... I just got the book last week and have read through it.... I am starting tomorrow. Well, actually I started watching what I put in my mouth already. But, I am starting the workout schedule tomorrow. Sunday just seems like a good day to start tracking. Hopefully - I will see early results to keep me motivated... (That was a joke - I know better than to expect instant gratification - would be nice though)
Well Penney, how are ya doing on day one?
I think I've said before that I don't intend to take my free day. Enough 'occasions' creep in without my planning one. So today, I walked twice. DH went with me this evening. It was very nice.
And I'm under calories. Odd.
I did okay - but the cardio is killing me?!? Too many years of smoking.... Now it is just matter of trying to unring the bell.... ***SIGH***
I have not gotten my time in yet today. But - even I can only do it 5 minutes at time - I will get it done. Needless to say - I enjoy the strength training so much better. Or I will at least once I get the hang of the bands. Hand weights are easy - I have not given myself a concussion or broke my foot - so it's all good.
Okay - my big sin - had pizza today - but I have honestly not had any in more than a month - and the sad faces of my family (honestly - it was my son - he tries to convince me that teenage boys cannot survive without the occasional pizza)- I got weak and gave in... stupid I know - especially since I am just starting - But - I was really good the rest of the day.
So - I will get back on the horse tomorrow and not stray anymore tonight.
Stay happy everyone - It's Monday and only four more days left of the work week!
I've just borrowed this book from the library and I'm up to part 3. I have to say I really wanted to get past all the reading in the front and just get into it . but I was good and read the lot.
I'm looking forward to getting back to the gym as I like to do weights.
Cardio is also my weakest point... .
