It's friday already !!!!
I have had a hectic week one way or another, but it is more or less going OK. I passed up on a lot of opportunities tosay "This is stressing me out of my ming I HAVE to have chocolate/mayonaise/wine..." now, so i guess that is good. Also I upped the training intensity. This takes getting used to, i have been sore the whole last week from the more intense weightlifting but i think it is paying off.
Jen- The book I bought is "BFL for Women" by Pamela Peeke, NOT Bill Philips. She like specialises in age related and gender related medicine, and that is really good about the book too. If I look at Bill Philips I cannot really believe that what works for him will work for me ( I am part asian, part white, 46 years old, 5 foot 3 inches). Pam Peeke goes into things that are specific to the female body at certain what she calls hormonal milestones. I can identify with a lot she writes on changes in the bodies metabolism due to aging, and what I like is that she gives a food plan and an excercise plan also related to those milestones. So you have to figure out where you fit and then figure out what to do, but at least you get some sort of more or less
appropriate plan.
So far the excercise for the day: I am still sore from the LBW the day before yesterday, those lunges are killers. Today I did 25 min jog and 40 mins UBW. I added triceps extensions and they are killing as well.
Today is my last workout before my 5K, and I am already tired. This has been a tough week and I am looking forward to an off day tomorrow. In addition to my workouts and real-life, we had our first homestand for the Nats. It really isn't too bad time-wise, we have been home between 10 and 10:15 each night, which would only put me a half hour past my normal bedtime if I could just take a shower and go to bed, but it has been taking me an hour or two more to wind down to even go to sleep. Unfortunately, I am still waking by 5:30. For the last two nights I have been waking at 3:30 from stress dreams over the race: Do I have any safety pins for my number? It is only going to be a high of 50 on race day - what will it be like in the am and what should I wear? ... For now it is all about treating myself well. I have a light cardio day today and have packed one of my favorite jazz CDs (Nestor Torres), I always enjoy my weight days and I know my trainer will take good care of me. My calves are better and should be fine by Sunday. Today is Upper, so no issues there. I have cleared my schedule this afternoon and look forward to a relaxing time and dinner is a "chop and serve" plan (greek salad and shrimp - bought already cooked). I picked up BFL For Women at the library yesterday and am looking forward to an afternoon of it - me and Pam I also picked up Jon Stewart's America for my treat after the race, so that gives me a "non-food reward" to look forward to you. Though pancakes after are pretty high on my list, too. I tihnk it I has been 6 months since I have had pancakes from my favorite diner, though I have had plenty of Ilene's
I agree with y'all (I can say that now that I live in Virginia) on the white stuff. I also learned I need a healthy serving of protein most meals this week. I went with a friend to the local chili house for lunch this week - ordered the veggies with beans and ate about half. 2 hours later I was starving and tired and cranky. Food can really wreck havoc with my system, and I am getting much better at learning the signs. Of course, I am not completely cured - last night I was exhausted and really had sweet, crunchy cravings after a fine and filling dinner. All I can say, is thank goodness for Nabisco 100 calorie packs or I would have hit a whole box of cookies!
NIT - I totally understand on the $$ end of things. So will you go outside and get some cardio going? How about videos?
Shonda -I am excited to watch your progress. Thanks for sharing. You know we are all cheering you on - Tiki has been teaching us how to do it right haha
Well it is Friday afternoon and I am just getting a chance to read this thread. What a week and it is going to get worse before it gets better. I spend this weekend packing for a 4 day hunting/camping trip next weekend, and then I'm back for 5 days and on a plane to NY to attend my DD's wedding. I'll spend a week in NY visiting friends and family and head back to AZ the following weekend. I did do really well on my workouts this week, met with my PT 3 mornings, we did Bi's and back today (5:30 am) and my arms are still quivering, it was a great workout. I also adjusted my lunch hour walks so I can fit them into my new reduced 30 minute lunch. It actually is working out really well, I was walking about 3.5 miles in an hour but now I reeeally want to get in 2 miles so I hustle my butt and get back to the plant in exactly 30 minutes so I may be walking a shorter distance but I'm moving a little faster to get er done. The weather has been great and I did get out 3 times during lunch this week. Thursday I had a bit of a stomach virus so I didn't get anything done that day.
Pat, I hope you have a wonderful trip, I’m looking forward to hearing all about it when you get back.
Evangeline -- Don't be surprised with the new intensity in your lunch hour walk if you suddenly drop a couple of #s... I really believe that intensity is key in cardio...and that is a very good thang ...
Ellen -- This is what I intend to do for my first 5 or 10K run, --- I haven't decided yet which I will do because I am having numb toe problems all of a sudden, anywhoo --- do exactly the same as usual do when you go for a run, wear the same clothes, don't change a thing... I feel that race day is not the day to change something because you could get some nasty surprises, and it isn't the time for a surprise ! You'll do fine, I'm looking forward to hearing all about it... If and when you have those pancakes, you will not enjoy them after eating ours. I find ''white'' pancakes so bleh now, and I NEED the protein that is lacking in the white pancakes, I'm hungry an hour later with the white pancakes...
4rabbit -- Welcome to lunge world, it's a wonderful thing ...
I had a terrible run today and food was so so....I've seen better days...
So here it is "Race Day". I am leaving in a half hour. I am very excited. I have been full of nervous energy and excitement in the "whoopie" sense, not the "oh no, what have I gotten myself into this time" sense. Went to sleep at a reasonable time last noght and actually slept through the night. It was great to wake up this morning with no aches or pains and I am raring to go! Sure hope I can keep this momentum and don't crash before the start in 2 hours and 15 minutes (not that I am counting or anything)
OMG, this has got to be one of the most amazing things I have ever done. My goal was to finish in 40 minutes and I did it in 38:28. The weather was cool and sunny after horrendous thunderstorms last night. The course was beautiful, through Old Towne Alexandria and along the Potomac. My trainer ran the whole way with me, then we walked back and re-crossed the line with my friend who's goal was to walk the course (she finished in just about 50 min). I feel like a million bucks. Went to breakfast with DH, trainer, friend, her DH and DS. It was a hoot watching the hero worship between the 13 year old and the trainer. Sorry, Ilene, but those pancakes were out of this world and worth working towards.
Tomorrow I have a training session at 8:30 am and an appointment with my dermatologist in the afternoon. If she gives me the OK, I am definitely registering fir DCFit tomorrow night! Enjoy the rest of you Sunday - I know I will enjoy mine!
Thank you all for your support (welcome Gladdy ) Oh, Ilene, "dreadmill" !? Tiki - good looking guys should be a requirement on all tracks - we would all do so much better! Mel - thanks so much for being in there cheering me each step fo the way.
