Default Meg.... "poutine" pic!

Meg and LWL remember a while back we had talked about "poutine" ? They were having a discussion about it on another thread and someone posted a link to a pic... I just wanted to show you...

It looks quite discuting actually, and for some this is a staple, oye no wonder North America is having a obesity epidemic !

It looks like cheese and gravy on fries?

It IS cheese (curds) and gravy on fries and is absolutely disgusting! They make it with spaghetti sauce and cheese too - Italian poutine!

New York Fries used to make one that was absolutely scrumptuous! I loved it.

I figured out low fat cheese and could probably do a low fat gravy but can't come up with 'healthy' french fries. So I haven't had any in years.

The good news is ... even with the picture, I'm not craving one now either

It looks absolutely heavenly to me! Especially if the 'gravy' is green chili sauce! OMG!

I'm from Quebec- the home of the poutine - and came up with my own 'healthier' version that I used maybe once a month when getting my weight down to 104. Cook potato wedges cut small in oven (just use Pam) Get a can of bbq sauce (we have a number of different brands of them in Quebec and Ontario... different than US ones I believe). Use 1/4 cup of cheese curds. Instead of 1500+ calories as is in a normal poutine, this works out to about 250.

Had my last poutine in 2000... I just can't bring myself to ever have one again.

NY fries does make great poutine...

Village grec in Lennoxville PQ and Chez Basile in Ste-Anne-de Bellevue PQ had amazing poutine.

Cote St-Luc BBQ adds chicken chunks to their poutine..

I still don't really miss it though.

Cheers!

Healthy oven fries: julianne some potatoes, toss lightly with olive oil (and spices, if you wish), throw into the oven at 350 for about 30-40 minutes (turning once halfway through), then kick on the broiler for about 4 minutes at the end.

Not quite french fries, but still a tasty basis for cheesy gravy goodness!

The oven fries look good, spores, thanks for the recipe! (Would just say no to poutines, I think, no offense meant to anyone).

I don't eat white potatoes anymore (doing Sugar Busters) but the oven fries made with sweet potatoes might be good.

Hey don't knock it till you've tried it. Better if it's 4am in the middle of Canadian winter and you've been out all night drinking and dancing. Then it really hits the spot and once you've tried it you'll never go back.

This is too funny, I saw this and about died. A while back, I dated a Canadian who was, as common, in love with their poutine. Well, trying to explain it to everyone back home in Chicago, was turning up hard to do. I too have a picture of poutine! Heh, I did once, finally break down and try it, and ya know, it's not that bad. Of course, I never would dare touch it now. Right? Me being good and all that. Right? Heh heh heh.
