Thumbs down LWL #114 - Week of 4 Aug 2003

Just starting this week's thread right quick.

I wasn't on the 'Net this weekend - I see it's been super busy around here...we had such a gorgeous couple of days and for me it was all horsey which is a good thing.

Saw "Seabiscuit" on Saturday!!! FOUR THUMBS UP (two from me, two from Jim!).

More later - gotta hit the shower and get ready for work as usual...

Angry Monday Monday.....

Had a SUPER workout this morning! Starting the day off expecting great results. Movies....Heard mixed reviews about "Seabiscuit." Glad you enjoyed it. Some "experts" were saying it was drawing an older crowd, and was slow in the beginning, but then again I haven't seen it yet to pass judgement there, nor am I a horseracing enthusiast. Given 3 stars by most. Can understand though why J.Lo and Ben's movie was a bust. Am hearing it only cleared 3 million this weekend. Spy Kids beat them out! Hollywood, go figure!
Here's to a great day of workouts, and eating healthy.

I had a good weekend!!! Needless to say free day was a little too free.....the food was good, but I got that old "ugh" feeling. I think I will have to play with this a bit.

Had my back molar pulled today....it was infected. So, for today, just soft foods, soups, etc. Back to the grind tommorrow

Hey Robin-Hope your tooth is feeling better. Thanks for everyone's suggestions about ways to work out while my gym is closed. Saturday I went and bought some more free weights and an exercise video to use. Yesterday, I took a hip hop dance class that was fun. Hope you all have a great Monday-Ash

Mindi- I bought a zone brand power training on the ball and I already have a series of The Firm videos, but I bought another upper body sculpt.

I just got 2 new Kathy Smith DVD's today for cardio (on some days anyways!). Both have interval training on them. Hopefully they will work well and give me some variety in my cardio!

Hi all!!

Mrs. Jim, I thought of you yesterday. I saw a Hummer with a horse trailer. Now THERE'S a good use of an SUV!!

Well, Saturday was the end of Week 4 for me, and I had photos taken. I am now missing (drum roll please) one roll of fat and 10 pounds! Woo hoo! To celebrate, I got my happy butt to the store and bought a heavier body bar. (my old one was getting too light in its old age...)

Tomorrow I am going to have my grab 'n' flab for my BF %. Don't want to go. But I'm going to do it because I am committed to these 12 weeks.

My end of 12 weeks reward?
option 1: refrigerator for work
option 2: Pilates table
option 3: bodyflex or something like it

I've already scheduled Challenge 2, which will end the year beautifully. Then if I feel the need, I will opt for a Challenge 3 to start the new year.

Best to you all for a Happy Monday!

Robin & Jackie-O - I am taking a Cardio Kickboxing class today! I will let you know if it is fun. I do not like Cardio with a fox, I do not like Cardio in a box. I am hoping this will be better!

Jennifa, the only kind of cardio I can tolerate is Taebo. Have fun at your class!

Mindi - Videos I can't do - not because of klutziness, but from a lack of space in our combination family room/music studio/cat rec room/library...

So as not to bore the crap outta you guys, I did post my review of "Seabiscuit" the movie in my journal...definitely planning on seeing it again!

Just plugging along here today...nothing really new to 'report'

Hey guys,

Just a quick one - I am about to go home to start my cramming for my exams next week so you won't see me for a while. Wish me luck!

I had a crappy weekend and didn't get any exercise in at all. It was hot and muggy or it was raining, so no walks with Gem and no gardening. And our houseguest is staying downstairs in our computer/play/exercise room, so I felt weird about lifting or doing a video.

But yesterday was my day off and she had to work, so I lifted for an hour (and raised the sets from 2 to 3 on a number of exercises). Got that nice post-work out quiver in my limbs. /grin I'm a bit sore today -- not so much that I have to take pain killers, but enough to make me notice.

Then I took a break, and later did a cardio tape. I wanted something dancy that had great music and would work my heart hard. So Richard Simmons it was. I don't opt for his tape all that often, 'cause I find him a bit annoying and his cuing sux. But the movements are easy enough to follow, and after going through the workout a few times, you've got it.

I, too, started with very little room to exercise with, in our old apartment. Tae-Bo works well for that, because there's not a lot of moving around. And even most of the other tapes you can modify "motion" movements so you stay in a box about 3 foot by 3 foot. Just stay in place when they start "travelling".

I just got my three birthday tapes in the mail, too. Bellydance Slimdown looks like fun. Pilates for Dummies may be a bit much for me right now (the "my body doesn't GO that way" syndrome). Total Body Stretch will be wonderful. I specifically got it because it has three sections, each of which stretch the whole body. One is done standing, one seated, and one on the floor. I have troubles getting down onto the floor (and worse, getting back up!), but I really wanted a stretch tape to do after lifting or some of the cardio tapes I have that don't have a good stretch at the end.

But the real excitement for me is that I'm down another four pounds! I hadn't expected that after such a lazy weekend. So Monday was great for me.

Default Question!

I'm not going to start BFL til Labor Day, but starting this week, I am attempting to retrain myself to the BFL program, in that I am not doing cardio and weights on the same day.

I did a pretty itense weight and resistance session last night. However, my right arm is bulking up faster than my left and it's getting noticable. Would it be OK to work just my left arm on cardio days? Thanks!

URRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

Someone please get this PMS monkey off my back! I am craving food LIKE MAD (I already ate 2 EAS bars today, plus breakfast AND lunch!) AND I am struggling with the overwhelming task of losing 75 pounds. I mean, that's a lot of weight. I can't even curl it!

How have you all got past that? I know I'm thinking "all at once" but how DO you get obsessed with mini-goals when you know you still won't be happy with the bod when that mini-goal is reached?

PMS time...

grab-n-flab is tonight. Grr.

GREAT news, though - a good friend of mine is a member at my gym - and - SHE LIKES TO LIFT!!!! I cannot post how happy I am at this, I now have a real live GIRL lifting buddy!!! I know you all woudl help me, but you're all over the world. Good thing too - the world needs more chicks like us.

BTW Kickboxing ROCKS - burns 800 calories per hour. I like it, I was smiling at the end and am definitely going back even though it's in a bad neighborhood - I figure the class and the instructor will be able to handle the local thugs! YAAA!

Oh and bigtime GRR - stupid men. Need I say more.

And I got called "sir" at the restaurant last night. I really hate that. Just because I am supertall doesn't mean I have a I was good and ate brown rice with grilled chicken and water to drink.

Sorry this is such a dippy post, I will post my grab-n-flab results tomorrow, be they good or bad.
