Hi everyone,
It has been a while since I have posted. I hope everyone had a nice holiday.
In the past two weeks I have continued the workouts but have not eaten well. It is total lack of planning and being a litled bored with my food choices. I am making a commitment ot myself to change this.
I have a question. I re-read BFL and they stated 1 gram or protein for lean body mass. Do people follow this of go by scale wieght?

New here!
Hi everyone! I've been lurking awhile on this thread and others like it and thought I'd finally join in. My husband and I have started the BFL TODAY!! Tonight will be my first work out with weights. I'm a little nervous about it, just because I am not entirely sure of what weight to start out with, and I want to get the most out of each workout.
A little history, I have been a steady gym-goer for a while now. I was eternally faithful to the treadmill, however I have been on a plateau for a while. I did some light lifting, but not anything comparable to what the BFL recommends. After reading the BFL, I thought that this might be a solution. I'm extremely excited and ready for a change!!
If you guys don't mind my ignorance about some of the BFL topics, I may need some help, as I am learning as I go! First off, are there certain things that you eat or supplements that you are currently taking to get your dietary fiber in?
Thanks in advance for all of your info and encouraging progress!

technically this should be my week 2 but since i got fouled up on my workout plan due to the holidays and teaching dear old mom how to use weight machines i am making this my official week one. i am enjoying using the weights. i pushed myself saturday on the leg press machine and was surprised to see that i could do three sets at 230. i thought i would be sore on sunday, but i am not sore at all. today is chest and biceps so i will really push those. my upper body is way weaker than my lower body but way stronger than it was in february when i first started trying to improve my health. i keep looking at my arms and envisioning angela basset arms.

Good Morning Girls!!
jacklyn Welcome to our group... you will, I’m sure love it here... The only sups I take are Glutamine for muscle soreness and recovery, and calcium/magnesium before bed, sometimes when I think of it, I take Glucosamine for joints and a multi-vitamin...
cac I stick with 150 gms of protein ... But from what I read about the other eating way more than that on Brx, I don’t think it matters all that much how much you eat... Actually I think someone else should answer that question for you...
adrianna For this time around I’m going to stick with BFL eating... it’s simple and pretty mindless.... I will tweak to have less carbs tho... maybe only 100 gms /day....
MrsJim I think a pre-summer bootcamp is a great idea....
This weekend I found in a corner Mac’s Milk store of all places a Muscle Media magazine with the details of the Escalating Density Training (EDT) workout that I want to try, and did, this morning for the first time... It’s very different, I’m not sure yet if I like it... But I did get a good workout... And better still it took me less than an hour in the gym... and I don’t have to do CARDIO!!!! YIPPEE!!
I was going to take a free week this week. But after 3 days of free eats and no exercise, 3 days was all I could take of a break..... It’s funny that when I eat clean for long periods of time then eat sugar and too much salt (mainly ham) I was TIRED AND YAWNING all weekend couldn’t stand it...But I slept a lot and was in bed early most nights....
Well I don’t have time to post much more... for the moment....I have a meal coming up .... YUMMY... Egg white omelette...
See you all later.....

Well now I have a few minutes to post
As I said on Friday Jim and I went to see the new film "A Mighty Wind" at the new cinema that just opened downtown. It is SO COOL to be able to WALK to the movies! This theater actually has balcony seating, so of course Jim wanted to sit all the way at the back I think we'll be going to the movies a LOT MORE OFTEN now but I'm bringing my OWN snackies next time - two medium Diet Cokes, 1 popcorn and Milk Duds came up to over $14! (Jim needed the Milk Duds for that movie experience ya know.) Anyway, the movie itself was VERY FUNNY! The whole audience was howling...if you saw "Best in Show" it is pretty much the same cast (we still need to see "Waiting for Guffman" soon). My sisters saw it down in Orange County the same day and walked out of the theatre because THEY didn't think it was funny...now they regret doing that after hearing Jim and I rave about it!
Saturday here was GORGEOUS - weather in the 70's - so good riding weather. Poor Freight was tired though - he didn't have the pep he usually has and wasn't too hot about cantering or jumping. Last week was Spring Break, so he got ridden a lot during the week by the kids - which probably accounts for his not-so-peppiness on Saturday! (that and he's over 25 years old so he isn't a young stud anymore). Good news is that Dee is taking over ownership of Norman and she's going to see if he'll be able to be used in lessons. Good lesson horses are VERY hard to find. I'm going to ride him pretty soon FINALLY - and if I can swing it, I'll probably part-lease him over the summer so I can ride more often...
Well I ate entirely too much over the weekend! We hadn't originally planned to go to my sister's for Easter dinner - I was hoping to drive up to the Rancho Murietta All-Arabian Show yesterday instead (with Jim of course). However...we kind of got 'guilted' into changing our minds. Fortunately there was no See's candy at my sister's house. My parents were there - my mom just got a new car...a BMW M4 (I think that's the number - it's one of those sporty cars). Of course Jim is just itching to drive it...but too polite to say so!
Jacklyn - WELCOME!! Ya know, I always say the first challenge is actually a learning experience. It takes 12 weeks to get it down IMO. I'd say, keep the book handy and refer to it often...keep a journal - not only of eating and workouts, but of your thoughts and goals. That helps TREMENDOUSLY. And of course you can always ask here!
Ilene - I hate to say what MY breakfast has been lately...okay...2 whole eggs, cream cheese and a bit of parmesan cheese mixed together and cooked in butter...mmmm....it definitely sticks with ya!

Sounds like you all had a good weekend
I am just starting BRx today. A bit hungry right now...guess i need to eat a little more protein in the morning. Heaven knows I have enough protein to eat!! I am still trying to figure out how I am going to fit it all in. Also had a MRP this morning...it was Met Rx in chocolate. A bit of an aftertaste, otherwise not too bad.
Off to lunch

Hey Everyone!
Karen, a pre-summer challenge sounds great!
It sounds like you had a great weekend! Wow, if I could walk to the movies I'd be there lots too! Enjoy!
I'm so glad to hear about Norman. I was worried about what would become of him.
I saw Suzanne's post; what she said made sense!
Cac, most of us go by current body weight. It's so eay to let the planning slip, isn't it? I do much better when I ttake the time to plan my day ahead of time. If I don't, I end up eating the same old things and that does get boring!
Welcome Jacklyn!
Ilene, is that article in the May issue of MM? I'd like to check it out. Another NO CARDIO convert!!! What's the world coming to???
Robin, it can be tough at first getting all the protein in, but once you figure out the portion sizes for the things you eat the most it will be easier. Adding extra protein powder to your shakes will make it easier. I generally make my shakes in a blender at home and add my own ingredients to make them better. I'll post some ideas in the recipe sticky.
I need to switch up my nutrition today for the next 6 weeks and I'm still not sure what to do. Scott thinks eating more protein would work but that would mean eating 24/7 so I need to think of somethiong else! Suggestions are welcomed! Anyone ever try carb cycling?
I''ve got some runining around to do today. I need new sports bras (all but one of mine are completely worn out) and I need some dri-weave tanks to wear over them for spinning. Cotton t-shirts get way too soggy! I haven't gone sleeveless at the gym before but I want to be comfortable. I've got a couple 50% off coupons for Vitamin World, so I want to heard over there and pick up a 5 lb. tub of chocolate protein poweder. I sure go through it fast!
My cycling shoes should arrive tomorrow. I hope they fit; the ones I tried on ran very small so I ordered larger than I normally would. The March of Dimes Spin is Friday!
I have been doing a lot of research on plastic surgery and have discovered some discussion boads with graphic pictures. I am amazed by some of the before/after pictures! They really give me hope! I wish I had the money to do it now! Therre is no doubt in my mind that this will make a huge difference! Kind of makes me want to start playing the lottery!
I called on the Peace River Center job and was told they are still interviewing and that it will be another 2 weeks before a decision is made. That should give me time to interview for Epilepsy Services.
Gotta eat and run!
Deb

how fit were you before you did your first spin class? i want to try one, but heard that they are only for the fit and i sure don't want to pass out on the bike in class. i have a week with no kids and plan to spend it experimenting with different types of workouts to see what all is out there. my motivation for the pre-summer bootcamp is to get fit enough to get a tattoo on my back AND be proud to wear a shirt that shows it.

Tiki - in my experience, most spinning instructors will encourage you to go at your own pace until you get the hang of things.
I would strongly suggest getting to class a bit early your first time and introducing yourself to the instructor - let him/her know that this is your first time. I go to spinning occasionally (I enjoy it but it doesn't start until 6 am and I have to be at work by 8) and I've seen a variety of folks there - young, old, fit, not so fit.
Also...if you can, DO wear padded bike shorts or use a gel seat cover because those bike seats are pretty ouchy...

Hey everyone! I've been snowed today and was AWOL all weekend because of massive family about. And yes I was BAD in the sense that I enjoyed some evil food and wine and champagne, but it was EXCELLENT food/drink and well worth the sins committed and the penance to be done. I've learned over the past year what's worth breaking my plan for and what isn't and I'm telling you a glass of chilled Tattinger's is worth it!
Mrs. J, let's go w/the bootcamp idea. I need to come up w/some kind of plan myself. I'm thinking of doing BRX again and making just a few, tiny tweaks to suit me and keep my body temp going strong and normal, meaning adding a bit more dietary fat. Jamie had a good suggestion in that avocados are green foods as are some fish w/plenty of 'good' fats in them. Plus I'm thinking of doing the lifting in C1 as superslow sets, heavy as I can, slow as I can w/out breaking form.
Just talking out loud really.

tikanique - I dido what Mrs. Jim says about the spin class. At my gym (NYSC) they are at your pace and if you let your instructor know before hand they will state option for beginners during the class.

Bootcamp! Sign me up!!!!!
Hoppy easter etc.
I went off plan saturday and ate candy (it was EVERYWHERE) and had a chocolate pudding cup.
Sunday was OK, and since I had eaten candy saturday I took it easy on the free food, only 1/2 a personal pan pizza and a pudding cup and a bit more candy. I hope that I didnt do TOO much damage. I cant really tell at the moment anyways as Im bloated from the worst bout of PMS Ive had in ages. Hopefully it should pass by this weekend.
I have been really giving 100% in my workouts this last week, so i hope to see SOME fat loss. I have been eating too much carbs tho, thats where I really have trouble :/ I will start measuring again as Ive gotten out of that habit lately and I think it shows.
ive been running outside on our bike path (asphalt) and my legs are sore so no more of THAT. Back into the gym until the nice soft nature trail is dried out. Tomorrow is UBWO and I will try for 40kg bench press
I went to look for weight gloves and couldnt believe how expensive they are!!!!!! 20USD a pair for the ones in womens sizes (10 for mens, of course, and they are way too big)! I will wait until I visit my family in early june to buy some because I just will NOT pay that much. Unfortunetly there are no good stores that are serious equiptment stores so I dont think I will find them anywhere else cheaper. Will ask at my gym tho.
My goals for this week are:
Give 100% in all my workouts (no wimping out!)
eat clean, and correct portions
Drink all my water
Goals for bootcamp:
Lose as much body fat as possible
Build lots of muscle/strength
Run 3km in 20 mins
squat 80kg (big goal! Im at 50kg now)
be able to see more definition in my arms
What are everyone elses goals?
must eat and then go to bed!

let's see, my goals are to;
curb my carbs (stay out of the starburst dish at work)
improve my monsters' eating habits
get in all my weight training each week
begin preparing for the susan komen breast cancer run
hit the gym in the am
write down my food intake
drink water on the weekends
tattoo or racer back tank top
finally get all my hair to be one color
yeah, those are some SOLID goals!
