  • A New Bootcamp .... Great Idea!
Hi gang! I’m so glad that Easter is over, because both the MIL and the candy (most of it) are out of the house (hint: one of those is sweet and one isn’t). It was a very stressful and tiring weekend, with way too much time spent preparing food for company. I did OK until I got to MIL’s birthday cake (which I made) — and had a big piece. My fault for not thinking it through or planning ahead of time (and making it chocolate with whipped cream filling and fudge frosting) — I was ambivalent about taking a kind of “free day.” I had the devil sitting on one shoulder telling me why it was OK to have one piece and the angel sitting on the other shoulder saying “No!” Darn devil won that time. Of course, it wasn’t as good as I thought and I was immediately struck by a huge attack of the guilts, so I went off when the company left and did an hour of cardio.

So this is a good time to re-focus on a new Bootcamp. I guess I better pull together a new plan. What to do food-wise is always the question, since the workouts and cardio all seem to be going great. I’m doing legs twice a week now and loving it. Today (with the trainer) I did squats, leg press (feet in different positions), supersets of step-up lunges (new to me) and jump squats, and the glute isolator and then abs. Tomorrow will be back day.

Cac — I’m trying to cut back on the protein a bit. I was eating 160+g, which is more than either my body weight or lean body mass. I’m slowly trying to bring it down to may be 150g or lower. The problem is — what to eat instead? Like Tidey said, carbs are a problem. I think I need to add in some good fats. I still have a bit of that “fat phobia” that was drummed into us by the “diet experts.”

Jacklyn — Hi and welcome! There are lots of folks here who do or have done BFL and would be happy to answer your questions, I know (not me, unfortunately). But on fiber — I have to do fiber supplements to keep things "regular" and I use SF Metamucil, along with as much fiber from fruits and veggies that I can fit in.

Ilene — you're quoting me in your signature!!! I am honored! Can you tell us about the new plan that you are following? I love new ideas. Yeah, I think I want to keep carbs in the 100-120 range also … but like I said above, what to eat instead? What kind of breakdown will you follow?

Karen — we LOVED Best In Show so will definitely have to see A Mighty Wind. It got a great review in — of all places — The Wall Street Journal. Hey, if they like it ….

Deb — good luck on the job search. I’m sure something good will come your way. What’s happening with the class at the gym? I’ve done carb cycling and it’s OK with me so long as I don’t cycle the carbs and calories too low. If I go below 60g of carbs and/or 1200 calories, I start getting a lot of cravings (which I hate). I can’t say what results you would get because I can’t get the freaking scale to budge no matter what I do. I hoping that I’m still building muscle because my workout pants, which are extra-smalls, are getting noticeable looser — something is changing, though it’s not the scale.

Mindi — sounds like a great plan. I hear you on the champagne …

Tidey — your pictures are phenomenal! You are making such great progress and your plan looks terrific! I hardly can wait to see some more progress pictures!

Sel — I’m way late, but congrats on your weight loss. You are on your way and I know you are going to get there. Nothing will stop you now!

Hi to all else! I’m going to slowly stand up and see if my legs work and make club sandwiches for the boys for dinner (it’s not a “real” dinner but I did way too much real cooking over the past week so they have to rough it). The cinnamon buns and rest of the cake are in the basement freezer and hopefully my legs will hurt too much to even contemplate going down there.

If anyone wants to post details on their eating plan (like calories, grams, ratios etc) I’d be interested.

  • I'm all for another round of bootcamp! With 10 weeks until the beach, you'd better believe it! I accomplished my goals for the last bootcamp (well, was hoping for an inch off my waist, but ended up being more like 1/2 an inch). At any rate, some noticeable changes.

Well, I've joined the bandwagon, and have started a 4-week run of CDK. I officially started yesterday, and I have to say that I'm surprised by how well I'm taking to it. The last time I tried to go low-carb, I was also skimping on the fat, thus had *no* energy whatsoever. It was very scary yesterday, though, to eat so much fat. I'm still a little worried about it, but I'm going to put my trust in it and see how it goes for the next 4 weeks. One thing I'm noticing today though is that my skin looks *so* much better - which has me thinking that I was *really* skimping on the fat in my last run of BFL... (I feel really oily, though, which kinda grosses me out... )

Tiki - I spin several times a week, and believe me, spinning class is one of the best classes to take if you're self-conscious about your fitness level, compared to others. It's *so* easy to modify the class to suit you. Most of the people in my class are pretty fit, but the pace and intensity at which everyone goes varies greatly. And if you're *really* self-conscious, just sit at the back of the room - that's what I used to do!
  • my goal is to have no more negative thoughts.

its amazing how my thoughts can just spiral out of control and before i know it i feel lower than poop.
    argh
at a certain point i realize that those kind of thoughts will limit me in every single way....just so hard to push past those kinds of things.
i'm really shy and have problems socializing....so....thats what i mean but it effects everything.

    rawr so annoying.
  • Howdy,

Another round of boot camp sounds marvelous. This one has been really, really good for me.

Ebe - My mind works the same way. I literally have to say, “will you shut up” or “stop that”! So you are most definitely not alone. Positive affirmations do help.

Meg - Thanks for the congrats on my weight loss. I am glad that Easter is over as well; a box of lemon wafer cookies became my friend for the day and it was not pretty.

Mrs. Jim- I went looking for the A Mighty Wind website and came across a link to a Waiting for Guffman site. It should give you an idea about the movie as well as a few laughs. Read the story on the left first, the one with Catherine O’Hara and Fred Willard. It made my husband and I snicker thoughout the entire movie. The main character, Corky (Wickedly well played by Guest.) is just so damn affected, clueless and talent less that you laugh every time he is on screen.
    http://guffman.warnerbros.com/newspaper.htm

Also, the theme song from A Mighty Wind made me laugh. Took me back to the days of the folk singing craze in the 60’s and early 70’s. Of course, I was just a mere child. Peter, Paul and Mary come to mind, along with The New Seekers, Arlo Guthrie and Joan Baez.

Colleen- Congrats on meeting your boot camp goals and sorry you feel oily.

Tiki - Hi. Great goals, especially the one about the hair colors. By the Way, what color is you hair now?

Mindi- Nothing like fine wine and good food to please your palate, heighten your senses and calm the soul. Everyone needs a nice treat like Tattinger’s now and then.

    Jacklyn- Hello and welcome.

Susan- Glad to hear you are on the mend.

    Hi to Everyone else.

Hmm. Have to come up with some new goals.

    Sel
  • Hey everyone!
Wow the last bootcamp certainly went really quickly.

    Let's see now...
My goals for the new bootcamp:
To get in my cardio proper.
To actually eat 5/6 small meals a day instead of cramming 2 or 3 together(!)
Get down to 24%(or less) bfp from my current 27%
Not be intimidated by the free weights!

I haven't really experimented, to tell the truth, but so far I've been pretty much low-carbing it. Sometimes I won't even eat carbs, just lots of veggies. Before the end of Lent, I had some trouble getting enough protein in, but now, WHOA! I'm trying to cut back to 200g/day... hope to go down to 120g/day within two weeks.
  • hey there everyone......... again, i go away for a day and you all get chatty

good to hear that everyone is doing so well, even with the holiday meals we still have another two days of Passover left, but that's not affecting me since i'm not making another huge meal for the second Seder ! one was more than enough this year.

i started my C2 on sunday and i must say i'm LOVING it !! i threw in another weights workout to the weekly schedule, so that'll be two lower body and two upper body sessions per week. plus of course, CARDIO !!! some spinning, some swimming, treadmill, power walking around town, elliptical and stair stepper. that should all keep me out of trouble

my goals for the boot camp (however long it is......):

    * give it 110% in my workouts
    * 5 meals per day - a 45% p/35% c/20% f macronutrient balance
    * 1 gallon of water per day
    * have FUN !!!

i'm swamped with work, and then more work. somehow i got us way behind on our community website and now we're scrambling to catch up with updates, plus additions of new material. we're going to be doing a really big media push in the next few weeks so i have to get my butt in gear and get all the work done !! and a very demanding client is making me insane with his monthly postcards for his two night clubs !!!!!!!!!!!

hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday

    see you later,

    adriana
  • Hey Sel, I just went back to read and I too have to offer you congrats on your loss. Isn't it funny how happy we are about this kind of loss? LOL

Still debating what plan I should do for le new bootcamp..an existing one or one of my own making? I'll keep mulling it over..probably til we start. lol

Hey Deb, I may be wrong, but didn't you try carb cycling before? I thought it was you, but it may have been someone else. I thought I had read about it over the MSN BFL board when you were doing it, but as I said, my memory may be faulty. Age ya know. hehehe

Sun is shining and its going to be a GOOD day. I'm going shopping tonite for great food and I'm going to pamper myself this am w/a bubble bath instead of a shower and I'm going to keep myself in motion today, meaning rather than be glued to my computer, I'm going to make sure I get up every 15 minutes and stretch and walk around a bit. Couldn't hurt.

    Bi's and tri's tonite.

    Have a sunny day everyone.
  • Debbie and Meg: The EDT program that I found is in the Muscle Media's 2003 Training Guide for summer May issue... http://www.musclemedia.com/
    http://www.t-mag.com/articles/196dens2.html
Note the workout in the magazine is a bit different than the site... I guess it's whatever you prefer...
So far so good....I had a great shoulder and bi work out this morning.... I actually did some dips... which BTW were very difficult, I could only do 3, but that's ok too, I'll work myself up there....

I'm not sure what to follow as a food plan this time... Basic BFL with a tweak for carbs... 100-120 gms of carbs, with 150 gms of protein? What does everyone think? I'm find that CKD is too drastic... In my mind, too much of a good thing is not good...

    Adrianna: I like your p45%, c35%, f20%, yesterday I was p43%, c30%, f27%....

Meg!! x-small getting too small??? What is THAT!!! I can't imagine that at all... I hear you on the scale not moving... mine REFUSES to budge... I'm sure it's been a year... actually it's more that a year!! Oh well...

Gotta go for now... Take care and have a good day every one!

Oh I forgot to ask... Been meaning to ask this...

Does 1 tbsp ground Flax have the same healthy fats as 1 tbsp of Flax oil??

    Later...
  • Food Plan
Ilene and Adriana -- I like the 45 (protein)/35 (carb)/20 (fat) plan too and I find it livable -- it fits in with the foods I like to eat. I find that I eat about two servings of complex carbs (generally one oatmeal and one oat bran) and the rest of the carbs are veggies with one apple (LOVE crunchy apples!). I think that shooting for 150g protein is good -- that's 600 calories. Then the 100 - 120g carbs would be 400 - 480 calories. That would leave about 30 - 35g of fats, for about 270 - 315 calories. Daily total calories would be between 1270 and 1395 (I think -- I'm doing this in my head and am math-impaired). How does that fit in with what you two are aiming for in daily calories? Ilene -- do you track in Fitday? If so, is your journal public? Mine is: http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJ...l?Owner=mheinz It would be fun to compare what we are eating if we are following the same guidelines.

I hear you on the scale not moving, but I know I have to stop paying so much attention to it. I don't think I'll ever stop weighing myself though, because for me, that would be a sure recipe for weight gain. But I need to put it in a better perspective. I've been thinking about this a lot lately because May 11 will be the one year anniversary of me hitting my weight goal of 135 and, on the one hand, I feel like I've done an awful lot of hard work in the past year to end up in the same place, weight-wise, but, on the other hand, I recognize that there have been other, non-scale changes (like BF dropping from 16 to 12.5%). But when I make myself step back a little, I realize that, for me, maintaining a "normal" weight for a year is a huge achievement, certainly something I've never before done in my life. I guess we'll always want *more* but we have to realize (and give ourselves credit for) what we have accomplished. I'd be willing to bet that many of us are in the best shape of our lives, or at least our recent lives, regardless of how much further we want to go and we should celebrate that.

Back day and cardio this afternoon, which means house cleaning and errands this AM.

    Have a great day, everyone!

    Meg
  • hi all,

must say i had a MOST excellent workout yesterday. 60 minutes advanced step with an instructor that plays the funkiest music. i just love his class. i did my weight training - back and triceps and really pushed myself. i didn't know i could lift that much. i didn't get in enough protein at all yesterday. i will HAVE to go to the store tonight and buy food. my fridge has tumbleweeds in it right about now.

BTW as of 7:00 AM today all my hair is black! it used to be red, orange, yellow and brown (freak dye accident). i had to wait 6 months to let it rest before recoloring. when i finally did recolor, i missed a big section. the back of my head looked like a target. unfortunatley my hair doesn't hold dark dyes that great so it will fade into who knows what in about 3 weeks. we will see.....
  • WOOOHOOO!!!
    My EEG came back NORMAL!!!

I can funding for the 2-week class and get my driver's license when it is over!

...so, anyone have suggestions what kind of car I should get? OMG, I'm gonna cry!

Tiki, I agree with the others. There are all levels of fitness at my classes. some verty fit, some quite overweight. You adjust the resistance to what you can handle. Go a little early the first time & let your instructor know you're new and find out what the different commands mean. That will help keep you from being confuised about what to do.

Mindi, I can't believe you were snowed in! Is it melting at alll? It's hot & humid here and I have the air on a lot.

Your plan sounds good. I haven't eaten a single avocado on BRx.

WHY can't I eat fruit? I decided to try adding it back in so I got some granny smith apples and some blackberries. I had an apple yesterday and some blackberries on my cottage cheese. I'm up 2 lbs. this morning!

Oh well, I guess I won't be buying more when this is gone.

    Lots of good goals here!

Ilene, thanks for the link! I'll check that out and the magazine, too.

Yikes! I need to get to the gym pronto! I work until 9:15 tonight so if I don't do it now it won't get done!

    OMG! I'm getting my license!

Deb...who's wondering what kind of car to get...
  • DEB!
    Congratulations!!!

As to what kind of car to get, it depends a lot on your budget ... and new or used ... but you'll be mobile!!!

    Meg
  • Congrats Debbie..!!!... "On the road again...." Some lame country song... don't know if American's know it ...

    Meg: http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJ...?Owner=Lanaii1

    Later all....
  • Thanks guys!

I just talked to the doctor and not only did my EEG come back normal, it's official: I do NOT have epilepsy!

Still trying to stop crying...I was always told that you cannot be "cured" of epilepsy.

God has truly blessed me! This is a miracle. You can't begin to know what this means to me!

Deb...who needs to dry her happy tears and get her workout in!
  • Good Morning Ladies,

It's a gray day here, no sun in sight. But workouts are going well, so life is good.

Ilene- Of course we American's know "On The Road Again". It was a big hit for Willie Nelson.

Deb - Congrats on the EEG and the miracle. I so believe in the power of prayer. Your news really made my day.

Tika isn’t it funny how the right music can rev up your workouts? I am partial to the band Queen, myself. Somehow, their songs make me workout more intensely, especially Bohemian Rhapsody, Under Pressure and Bicycle.

Mindi- Thanks for the congrats. The scale moving has really psyched me up. I feel my goals are coming so much closer.

Hi Adriana & Lore. Hope everyone has a great day. Still working on my goals for the next Bootcamp.

    Back to work.
