Default help!!!!

Good morning

I'm a 55 yr old healthy female. I'm probably not too overweight but really want to tone up. I picked up the body for life book at the library after knowing about program for a few yrs. I'm really interested in starting using weights but really have no idea how to go about doing this. It's really difficult to try to do the exercises while looking in a book. I'm fortunate to live in a building that has an exercise room with free weights and some equipment. How do I go about starting the program. Any helpful information would be appreciated.

I've also decided to quit smoking and am on day 15 of being smoke free.

thanks in advance.

Default Maureen,

You will be surprised at how quickly you learn the exercises w/ weights. I do keep a book w/ exercises in it close at hand in case I want to refer to it. I also try to read the specifics of each exercise periodically to refresh myself on the proper form. Just read through what you are going to do a couple of times, do it, and next time your body will remember how even if your brain may not. Good luck and congrats on the good decisions you are making for yourself.

Ledom is right - the exercises in the BFL book aren't very complicated at all - they're basic weight-training exercises.

What I do is practice the movements at home first (I don't have weights at home - I just 'pretend' to have the weights in my hand and practice the movements). You can also try making a photocopy of the page(s) and then shrinking them if you have access to a copier that does that. I carry one of those small sprial memo books (3x5") with me to keep track of my workouts, sometimes if I'm learning a new exercise I'll draw little stick figures and write some simple instructions/reminders. At most it takes 1-2 times of performing the exercise to memorize it - but that's just me

Congrats on quitting smoking!! If you're just beginning to do weighttraining, BFL is probably one of the best programs out there to get your feet wet - just give it a whirl and commit to 12 weeks - you'll love it!
