Mel - so glad to hear that everyone is okay!
 to everyone else! On the run today.... |
Mel - That is amazing about the house and the firefighters.
I did 1 RM shoulder press today at 63 lbs. I was hoping to do more but oh well :) I came home, told my husband and he said "that is a lot of weight, why would you do that?" He doesn't quite understand the joys of lifting heavy things. The rest of the workout was a bit painful. A WOD with 120 total burpees and 120 total pullups (I did my jumping pullups). Then afterwards, we had to 2000m row and my arms did not want to row and were ready to quit at 500m but I did it. Anyway the workout was: WOD: 15 Burpees 1 Pullup 14 Burpees 2 Pullups 13 Burpees 3 Pullups etc… |
Glad to hear the good news, Mel.
Welcome to this thread, Diane. I'm rather new myself, and it's been fun and helpful to be here. You'll like it, and good luck. Today I just did an aerobics class and aquafit, plus a few barbell lifts. My trainer was not here for our usual barbell Monday session. I'll see him on Wednesday. Take care, Rhonda |

I would say I feel like I've accomplished something, was able to train myself to do more, and cus it makes me feel bad *** But that's me, haha :) On a side note, I have not worked out since Thursday. Mainly due to stress, work schedule, and now I'm sick and everything just hurts. Maybe my body is mad at me for not lifting in the past four days :( |
nelie- It's just impossible to explain to those who haven't been bitten by the same bug.
My numbers, OTOH, seems to be going down. This arms/shoulder injury has really forced me to lighten up on everything overhead. The upside is that my FORM is better because I can't muscle up the lifts. I've gotten much faster and more agressive at things like snatches and split jerks, but my weights are lighter :( I'm smoling the metons, tho. And my knees don't like it. Welcome, Diane! Lydia, I'm doig a look at neighborhoods and a few houses foray- and of course visiting and going to an OSU game :) I may put you on speed dial-- has your cell phone changed? PM or email if you don't mind. I also want to get out to Rogue Fitness and look at real lifting shoes :carrot: It may be the only place within 500 miles to actually try them on. Mel |
Mel: My cell number is still the same. Feel free to call, instant message, email, PM whatever you need. Have fun at Rogue Fitness. It looks like a fantastic place. Are you planning a workout there too?
An OSU Game?! Awwwww. You've got a great weekend plan. Enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Love Columbus in the fall. :goodvibes: Lifting...for me it's the physical manifestation of being able to lift and get out from under anything that has been pressing down upon me in a psychological/mental way. I know that I get pretty tense when I'm stressed because it feels like I NEED to do something to move it out of the way but it's not a physical/tangible kind of pressure that can be moved only passed through. Lifting allows me to use that energy (flight or fight) and feel that release from stress whether it's just needing twenty minutes to have a complete thought without interruption from those I love to the stress or worry of things much larger. :^: |
I love being able to lift heavy things, too. I can't explain why, but I love it. It makes me feel accomplished and confident, capable. Release of energy I guess. I find a similar feeling lately with my yoga, it just releases the energy less explosively. :)

Yesterday while I was sick and drinking my neocitran, too sore to really do anything and too irritable to just watch tv I was walking around the house and I stopped infront of the bathroom mirror.
I started flexing my arms, checking for muscles and I can see the muscles move in my arms now! This is huge for me, they are still quite fat filled, but I could see them as I flexed them! Then I turned around and flexed my shoulders and arms and I saw definition! My back has always been just this layer of fat, to actually see an indentation while flexing my shoulders was amazing. I'm just too fascinated with this, haha. I hope I can get over this soreness and get back to lifting soon, I want to ride off this high. |

My friends and family don't quite understand it either, but weight lifting gives me physical (and mental) strength that I really can't get elsewhere. Definitely a joy! |
Today we did front squats, heaviest I did was 78 lbs. My form has really improved but I notice as the weight goes up, the harder it is to go deeper.
We then did a 20 min AMRAP 15 wallballs 15 sumo deadlift highpulls (53 lbs RX although I did 55 because of logistics) 400 m run I did 3 complete rounds and I finished my last SDHP as we hit 20 mins and I was thankful, not sure I could've survived a 400m run. Afterwards, we had to do 100 situps. Funny though is that I came home yesterday exhausted, this morning was stiff and sore and thought I wouldn't go in today but took my workout clothes 'just in case'. I felt fine and the workout actually energized me after all was said and done. Oh and I'm ordered a new pair of shoes, Inov-8s :) |
Good Morning :coffee:
Oh, my lower posterior chain is uhm, sore. I really need to do leg day more than every other week. :faint: Well, it hasn't been quite THAT infrequent but adding an extra set yesterday has me digging through boxes looking for my foam roller. Don't really think I need to roll out some of these parts at the gym. Speaking of leg day, I received this from Cressey yesterday in email. These are fantastic presquat (is that really a word, well maybe here it is) exercises. Love this guy! Enjoy. http://showandgotraining.com/simple-squat-fixes.html |
Lydia said this ... Lifting...for me it's the physical manifestation of being able to lift and get out from under anything that has been pressing down upon me in a psychological/mental way.
... and I love it! |
srmb
Lydia - that is a great link. I've found a lot of my squat issues happen to do with fear but also there is some flexibility/mobility type issues as well. My CF is doing a Paleo challenge which is interesting. I'm amazed at how many people are struggling with either cooking and making things flavorful or just eating veggies. So I've been busy sharing some recipes that'll hopefully help them. I can't help them with the meat aspect, they are on their own, but I can help them with the veggie aspect. |
Nelie, great job on the front squats. I have trouble keeping my chest and elbows up when the weight gets near my max. Glad you are still enjoying the CF!
Yesterday I went to the fair with my friend from the gym and her 5 y.o. boy. It was fun following the munchkin around. We ate nothing but junk, but it was a fun day. Stephanie, you asked about the contest I"m doing. It's going to be a combination of strongman and crossfit. There will be five workouts, I think, or something like that, over the course of the day. It should be fun, challenging, heavy. Gotta run, peeps, just wanted to check in. to all! |
My home gym is almost done being built :) Well, when I say almost done I mean I almost have everything I would like to work out at home but I know I'll want way more stuff later on as I move up.
Today is a bit of a weird day, I'm making a two hour trip out to another city to see a psychic. I saw her two and a half years ago and everything she has said has come true so I thought it would be neet for an update. I also want to talk to her about my dreams as I keep dreaming things that come true and I don't know how to deal with it. (I told a girl at work about a dream I had about her and her friend dying the night before, and her friend had died, I felt horrible) I know it's a bit of a weird thing to talk about here, but it'll be nice to see what she says. When I get back, it's work out time! I wanna practice all my different moves on my home gym and test weights and stuff. It's fun having a new toy :) |
