So, yes, food and a workout. For the first time in the 7 months that I've been strength training I got nauseated during the session. I had just done 3 sets of 17 split squats and was doing reps on the dip assist when a wave of nauseau just overcame me.

I had not had many carbs but had eaten 4 ounces of chicken and some veggies about 1 1/2 hours before the workout. The trainer said to have toast and PB before a workout instead. I don't even what to know if he's right: I LOVE toast and PB

I rested a bit and finished the workout at a slow pace.

My weekend plans include some cardio, lifting on Monday, and food with the extended family sometime.

OH MEL! You are just going to walk right into my old life. :goodvibes: Can I move in with you during visits. :lol3: Miss my old stomping grounds, my neighbors were the BEST! So go look at the house...probably Susan's if I'm right, haven't looked though.

The gyms: The Y in Hilliard is wonderful. Has all the equipment for decent strength training. Not all of the toys I would like to see but they haven't said anything to me when I brought in my own things. They do have 2 BOSU, a few med balls, balance board, some really crappy tubular bands which I was pretty vocal about just before I left. :lol3: Do me a favor, ask Chris if he's ever considered buying flat bands for assisted pullups. Great Freemotion equipment, I think there were kettlebells kept in Chris's office but I think you needed ask for them. I also used the group exercise room for my yoga, speed rope, functional training sessions when it wasn't in use. Always had it to myself. Made a lot of friends there and it surprised me how it became such an important part of my life the past five years.

Hilliard Ray Patch Y
http://www.ymcacolumbus.org/hilliard/

Overall, they pretty much left me alone to do what I needed. I think the added bonus to the Y is that it does have an indoor running track. SMALL! but at least there is one for quick interval sprints in between sets. REALLY missing that right now. Also good for farmers walk, walking lunges. etc.

The training studio in Grandview. Another wonderful place. There is not a week that doesn't go by that I don't think about it as a missed opportunity. Nick and Sharon Osborne at GO:Fitness have something really special there. They offer what the Y has a difficult time doing, teaching people how to use the equipment correctly. I worked with Charlie who was one of the head trainers. He's a total ThinkGeek fan and nearly freaked when he found out that DH was leaving for DC to work for them. Charlie is very very good with form and technique. Nick and Sharon are very personable. Go and check them out too. I received a shout out email from Sharon back in June but at that time I just was in the thick of everything with this relocations and missed about 3/4 of all my emails.

Go Fitness: http://www.gofitnesscenter.com/

God. I can't even LOOK at their website without getting all worked up. That was a hard one to leave for me. Anyway, go check them both out and enjoy!

There is also a CrossFit/MMA in Hilliard. It began I think about two years ago. I haven't checked out. The first year I was at GOFitness and then when DH left for DC I needed a place where I could bring my sons while I worked out so it was back to the Y. It was fine, but I did feel like I was personally wasting time there since there were other things I wanted to learn.

You've got some great choices here. Best of luck in your search and let me know how the gym shopping goes. Oh, :chin: Don't bother with Sawmill Premier...can we say GLOBO gym. OMG. No power cage there either.

Lydia227 09-04-2010 07:22 AM

Mel: Just searched my street. Not Susan's house, if it's the one I just saw. This is a very good price for the house. I'm surprised it's not already sold. I think it has a walk out basement too. Go look at it.

Cracks me up. My neighbors would absolutely freak if they found out their new neighbor was my mentor for five years. You know, the force that got the ball rolling in my court. Pam, Cas, Joy, Dawn... all were witnesses to the changes in me during those years. They would enjoy knowing you too. I'd be tempted to give them a heads up but I think you should have that fun for yourself.

nelie 09-04-2010 07:33 AM

I'm just wondering why Lydia isn't going to Crossfit... :)

I didn't go yesterday but contemplating today.

Lydia227 09-04-2010 09:48 AM

Nelie: It's SOOO expensive! Although, I'm still looking at it as an option. I know CrossFit Fairfax has a one week trial of $80.00. I'll try it once the kids are in school. Then I'll go interview the folks at CrossFit Alexandria.

I really have no doubt that my knowledge and strength would grow exponentially.

Really had a great workout this am at the Golds Gym. Had the Mind/Body room all to myself for the most part. Spent an hour maybe hour and half in there doing my thing. Rounded it out with some quick back squats in the free weight area just to keep things limbered and called it a day. Found myself smiling during my jump rope intervals. Ya know, I had a decent rope and I'm pretty sure I got a couple double unders in without too much effort. It's all in the wrist...and having a good rope. ;)

nelie 09-04-2010 12:32 PM

Lydia - I know but I have to say for me, its totally worth it. Trust me, going from an $8/month gym membership to nearly $200 was hard to swallow. (Although in all fairness, I didn't use my other gym membership for a while)

I went today and it was awesome and sucky at the same time :)

3 rounds of:
1 minute wallball
30 seconds burpees
1 minute pullups
30 seconds burpees
1 minute kettlebell swings
30 seconds burpees
1 minute box jumps
30 seconds burpees

The funny thing is it was a fairly large group today (10ish?) and after the workout a couple people wanted to go run a mile so about 7 of us went and ran a mile after we took a short break. I ran the first half mile then walked/run the second one. What insanity drives people to want to run after such a workout? who knows :)

StephanieM 09-04-2010 04:32 PM

*sigh* I wish crossfit was more affordable and closer to me. It always sounds so fun and challenging.

I'm also getting irritated at my gym's hours, because it's Labour day on Monday they are only open 8-2 Sat, Sun, and Monday! That's pitiful when I work weekends. Today I'm off at 3:30 so I'm going on a mission to find and buy a barbell set to start out with for home, and maybe some new dumbbells :)

I'm in a good mood though, I notice my shoulders are getting more defined and my body appears more athletic then dumpy. I love my legs and how big my quads are getting. I swear I'm becoming conceited because I'm always feeling for muscles or flexing in mirrors haha.

WaterRat 09-04-2010 07:04 PM

Ah, Stephanie, that's why you have home stuff! :) Or take an active rest day - go for a walk, a run, ride your bike.

Until a year ago, my gym was closed every Sunday. Now it's open 10-4. They close completely for every holiday - like Labor Day. At Christmas and New Year's they close for 2-3 days depending on where it falls in the week. This gym is 4 miles from my house. The next one is 3 miles further, and the next two abour about 5 miles, so given the price of gas here - $3.40/gallon (I know Canada is higher), I choose to belong to the one 4 miles away, and not the ones that are 7 and 12 miles, and plan accordingly for holidays. :)

Tejas 09-04-2010 09:18 PM

Totally off topic, Stephanie: I lived in Toronto for 34 years and retired back to my home state of Texas. I'm a dual citizen and LOVE Canada.

Rhonda

StephanieM 09-05-2010 09:35 AM

Tejas, I like it too! But I've never been anywhere else to compare it too, haha. I've lived in the lower mainland in BC my whole life. We just had the olympics and it was great, there were so many of us in the streets when Canada won the gold in hockey! It was like a party that expanded the whole city.

WaterRat, I want to make it so I can just work out at home. I did not suceed in finding a barbell but I didn't find some dumbbells that I can change the weight on which I think is a good buy. I got myself a ball as well since I couldn't find the barbell. I never knew about heights and different ball sizes and the one meant for my height is much more reasonable then the ones I've been struggling on at the gym.

I consider me getting this all home as my work out yesterday, haha.

4rabbit 09-06-2010 12:59 AM

Hi all,
I'm late to join the thread this month. My goal is to get back to the daily workout thing, minimum 30 minutes per day, every day. I'll take some time to get there and get a new routine going here.
DS has moved to enigineering college so only DD & myself left to care for. Otoh, life at work is stressfull at the moment and I'm also going through hormonal issues. Fatigue, hot flashes, not sleeping, the works. I have some energy back but i've ballooned around my waist and went up 2 sizes in jeans. Not pretty at all.

Lydia - sounds like you are getting in the groove at the new place
Mel -

 nelie, pat, tejas, midwife & stephanie

have a great day all,
Rabbit

Tejas 09-06-2010 06:44 AM

Good Morning:

Rabbit mentions a daily routine and I wanted to ask everyone if there are certain exercises that you do everyday, you know, like push ups or squats, etc.

Rhonda

Stephanie, of course, Canada won two golds in hockey...one for the women and one for the men. How about that, eh? I watched the game here in Texas, took a picture of myself in a t-shirt with CANADA on the front and sent it to my Canadian friends.

Shannon in ATL 09-06-2010 11:55 AM

I have been totally absent from posting in this thread lately, but I have been reading everything! I miss you guys! :(

I ended up starting my exercise break slightly earlier than planned because my AC went out and I let that throw me into a funk that resulted in popcorn for lunch lying on the couch instead of running., after what was only supposed to be a two day off from strength break. I'm thinking I'll take today and tomorrow off, too and then start back up - that will give me a solid five days off. Though, I do feel better for the break - I'm not feeling the overall sore, achey feeling I've had for the last two several weeks anymore. I'm enjoying that. Want to get some yoga in today, though just to get that back on track. It doesn't feel like hard core exercise to me, and will keep me from getting stiff. I haven't started to have that stiff, not exercised feeling at all yet, and I used to get it after one day off. I figure that should tell me something. :dizzy:

Rhonda - I try to do 30-40 mins of yoga everyday, except for the last three days obviously. I do a lot of hip opener flows.

Mel & Lydia - how weird would that be if Mel moves into the neighborhood right after Lydia moves out. All small world-y. :)

 to everyone!

StephanieM 09-06-2010 12:10 PM

I do strength training 3 days a week right now, but I want something to do on the days in between. The ball I got yesterday came with a band and two dvd's with a few work out routines. It's from gaiam I believe. I'm going to start trying this in between my strength days, I'm also looking into yoga for relaxation purposes. 3 days a week is just not enough for me.

I'm also concerned about some pain I'm starting to get in my right knee lately, I might have to go to the doctor and get that checked out.

WaterRat 09-06-2010 02:53 PM

I have stopped my Lean Eating membership as of the end of September, so I'm looking around at other programs. I like Lean Eating a lot and have all the exercises, I just feel the need for a change - and not to be spending the money right now. :) I have Rachael Cosgrove's book that I bought last winter. Think I'll read it again, and also NRLW which I did a couple years ago. Lots of choices, esp now that I'm feeling better...

Rained both Sat and Sun here, and while today is not rainy, it was cool and cloudy this morning, though it's clearing now (nearly 11 am). I'm going to get off the computer and go outdoors while it's moderately dry.

 to everyone!
