If you file your calluses down periodically with a emery board it can help prevent tears. Also keep them feeling smoother.

My callouses do bug me but I'm so hot and sweaty as it is when I work out that I hate the idea of adding even a piece of clothing as tiny as a glove, so I refuse to wear them. I won't wear a hat when running outdoors for the same reason--I'll actually get up early to try to beat the sun rather than suffer through wearing a hat.

But I do use the sissy pad (as my trainer has referred to it) for squats. And if there is a padded bench available for leg lifts, sit-ups, etc., you'd better believe I use that rather than doing them on a wimpy mat on the floor. I'm with baffled...use all the comforts!

This thread is interesting, as I was just thinking today I might like to try some gloves. I like to lift as heavy as possible and was considering gloves since most of the bars in my gym are rough metal where you grip. But it seems most of you dislike them.

My favorite trick for keeping a callus at bay - paraffin manicure.

I've been using gorilla grips. I like them quite a bit.

Strengthening your wrists is the best way to go. Do you do any exercises for them?
