New to Weights

  • Hi

I've never lifted weights before. I've been trying to lose weight with lots of walking but have been told that weights would be a good idea too.

All I've got are two 1kg hand-held weights (they belong to my son).

Is that enough? I need some serious advice here please because I've no idea what to do, how long to do it for, frequency etc.

So any help for a total starter would be much appreciated please

    thanks

I am a total beginner but this is a great place to start. You will probably need some heavier weights and its best to start with a range of weights (some parts can lift more than others). I will defer to the more experienced ladies to give you advice on how to figure out exactly what to get though. Everyone is different.

Another great way to learn is to search through the archives of this thread.

Welcome to weight training. You will love it.
  • Thanks for the welcome hikerchick

I will do some searching, as you suggest.

I did think I'd get some more replies to this thread but I see this forum is quieter than some of the others.
  • Hikerchick..Thanks for mentioning that site. It is one of the ebst I have seen so far on weight training and nutrition...
    Thanks so much!

  • Oh here's this thread ... since I read it earlier, I keep thinking about that book ... 8 Minutes in the Morning ... I've always thought that sounded like a good place to start.
