Congrats on coming as far as you have, and welcome!!!

Right now I am at the stage where I have just been approved; I am at the point where I just need an "official" surgery date. I have an in-office consultation with the surgeon on March 5, so I should be getting one around then. Oh the wait! LOL.

Anyway, I was also informed by my nutritionist not to take any fluids 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after meals as well. It doesn't bother me, because I usually don't drink before or during meals at present anyway, so that is one less habit I have to worry about breaking.

As for my psych consult, I got high marks there when I went for mine; she was quite impressed with my realistic approach to the whole surgery thing and how I researched it all before making a decisions and what my expectations were. I know it isn't an overnight thing and it takes a lot of work, like everything else. Nothing worth getting is easy.

And get this: My pulminologist informed me that sleep apnea can also contribute to hypertension, depression, memory problems, strokes, certain cardiac problems....and weight gain. Go figure! I'm not saying my OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) was the cause of my weight, but it could have played a part, along with my old habits, genetics, and hypothyroidism. The wonders of medicine, eh?

Ugh. I have a moderate case of obstructive sleep apnea. I also have narcolepsy and other REM problems.

Now I started on the CPAP and was eagerly waiting for it to start making me feel better- I wanted my blood pressure to go down and I wanted to start losing weight again and have more energy. Instead my blood pressure went up. I had less energy. I gained weight. I have this freakish reaction to CPAP- it gives me the symptoms of Apnea. You see if I don't use the CPAP I dont have any Apnea symptoms. And yes there is a definition correlation between increased blood pressure and CPAP ussage. I have no idea why. And I didn't predict it would happen- I just noticed that it did. So its not a psychological thing.

Ugh.

I just did another titration study to see about changing my pressure again to see if that helps. If that change doesn't help I'm going to try a mouth thing cause the PAP doesn't seem to be for me...

But the apnea diagnosis (which I wasn't expecting) is another reason I decided to go see a surgeon. I know losing weight can help make the apnea go away or at least lessen severity. And not having apnea would make treating the narcolepsy and the other REM issues I have easier. But none of my wierd disorders should be a problem when it comes to surgery, i just might need a little more monitoring is all.
