Default I Can’t Live in This Body Anymore... Seeking Bariatric Surgery in Tijuana

Hey everyone,

I never thought I’d reach this point, but I’m desperate. I can’t keep living in this body. Every day feels like a battle—physically, emotionally, mentally. I’ve struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember, and no matter how many diets, workout plans, or “lifestyle changes” I try, nothing sticks. The shame, the exhaustion, the constant self-loathing... it’s overwhelming.

I avoid mirrors. I dodge photos. I pretend I don’t hear the comments, but they cut deep. Even worse is the voice inside my head telling me I’ll never be good enough, never be truly happy like this. I just want to feel comfortable in my own skin for once. I want to be able to breathe without feeling like my body is weighing me down, literally and emotionally.

I’ve been researching bariatric surgery for months now, and I think it’s my only real chance at a fresh start. I can’t afford the insane prices in the U.S., so I started looking into clinics in Tijuana. I’ve read about places like Renew Bariatrics and Renovo Health and Beauty, and they seem to have great reviews, but I’m scared. This is a huge decision, and I just want to make sure I choose the right place.

Has anyone here gone through this? Have you had surgery in Tijuana? If so, what was your experience like? Were you happy with your results? Was it safe? I just need some honest advice from people who have been in my shoes. I feel like this is my last hope, and I don’t want to make the wrong choice.

Thank you so much for reading this.

Hi, imeriono,

I wish you well facing the day to day pain you're experiencing.

There might not be an active set of folks on 3FC right now who've gone through bariatric surgery. There are a few active groups where you might find support for eating, exercise, and feelings about oneself.

Do look around and see if you find a fit.

Best,

Bill

I had the vertical sleeve surgery in the US in 2016. The recovery process was no fun, but manageable. I lost 60 pounds relatively easily and that brought me down to 210. My top weight before the surgery was 295. About a year after the surgery I stalled for a year and then over the next 5 years I regained it all back. The weight gain continued until I hit 334. I started taking Wegovy on May 4th and I have lost 17pounds in 2 months. In hindsight, I regret the surgery but in 2016 GLP-1 drugs didn't exist and I felt I didn't have any better options.

I hit that breaking point two years ago. The emotional weight was heavier than the physical. I chose a clinic based on honest reviews and personal outreach (even asked questions through Facebook groups). The experience was surprisingly smooth and felt safe. I spent hours calling my insurance before giving up and jotting down the Optum phone number just in case it’d ever help. Turns out, it didn’t, but it felt like I was doing something. You're not alone in this.

It’s really brave to share such a personal and difficult experience, and it’s important to acknowledge the heavy emotional weight you’re carrying. Struggling with weight and body image can impact every part of life, and finding a path forward that feels hopeful and safe is crucial. Many people facing similar challenges consider bariatric surgery as a meaningful option when other approaches haven’t worked.

Regarding surgery in Tijuana, this region is known for offering more affordable bariatric procedures, and several clinics like Renew Bariatrics and Renovo Health and Beauty do have positive reviews. However, the decision to undergo surgery abroad should involve careful research about the clinic’s qualifications, surgeon credentials, patient outcomes, and post-operative care. Safety standards and follow-up support are critical factors. It’s advisable to consult with a trusted physician or bariatric specialist before committing and, if possible, seek out verified patient testimonials and perhaps online support groups that focus on international bariatric surgery experiences.

Many have found bariatric surgery to be life-changing, experiencing significant health and quality-of-life improvements, but it’s also a major lifestyle shift requiring commitment to follow-up care and changes in eating habits. Carefully weighing all options, including local resources for medical and psychological support, and ensuring you have a strong support network can make a profound difference. Whatever you decide, remember that your value isn’t defined by weight or appearance, and seeking help for your emotional and physical well-being is a strong and important step.

How are you now? Have you had the surgery? I’ve heard a few people compare their Tijuana experience to places like Sono Bello in the U.S., mainly saying the key is doing tons of research and choosing a clinic with a solid track record. Really hoping things are looking up for you. This is such a huge, brave step.

It is important to acknowledge the emotional distress expressed in your message. When considering significant medical procedures like bariatric surgery, it is vital to consult with qualified, accredited professionals to ensure the highest standards of safety and care.
