If you think you have sleep apena that is another reason to have WLS. I am in the process of getting scheduled for surgery. I have met my surgeon and she ordered a sleep study done. I met with the sleep dr. today and he is sure I have it. Tomorrow night I will go to the hospital and sleep (have the actually study done). So you might want to have your primary doctor order a study done now and that will be one more thing you can add to your reasons why you SHOULD have it !!! Good Luck !

I have found a home! You all are just so wonderful for sharing your stories and messages of support! I have been having a tough time at home. I live with my fiance and his hockey playing sons (they are at the gym ALL the time) and weight obsessed daughter. Yes, one of the sons was drafted by the Rangers but they let him go...
As I said I go to my PCP Friday. I will ask her about the insulin resistance but DEFINITLY going to bring up the WLS. As you all know...especially Hazel, losing weight can be so difficult especially with PCOS! I have been beating myself up about it lately. I just want to be healthy! Honestly...thats all I want.
Well Nancy, the only way to fit in, is to say, GO BRAVES!!!!!! Just kidding about the fitting in part, but not about the GO BRAVES!!!!!!!!!

that sounds like more hoops to jump through and they way (weigh) I figure it is if we could ACTUALLY jump through the hoops we wouldn't need WLS now would we???????
well, went to the dr today. Waited 1 hour and 45 minutes to be seen. She and I talked and she is testing me for insulin resistance. She also wants me to try Meridia. I agreed. In the beginning she was COMPLETELY resistant to the idea of WLS. By the end...we had a deal. If in 6 months, i cant lose weight she will refer me. She started writing things down in my file so that the insurance company would have proof of my fatness (LOL all they need to do it look at me!) Sorry, that made me chuckle. The meridia isnt on my insurance plan but they have a discount program so I can save a little money. I can try for 6 months and I hope it works cuz the surgery is my last resort but I have my doubts.

to the lady who asked me about my daughter...(sorry, i am in aspin and can't remember names right now) she is my future step daughter and she is a nice kid. Just oo damn skinny!!! ;o)

nancy... glad to hear you're making progress... now, here's ANOTHER thought. get your doc to make the referral to the surgeon NOW, and then call the surgeon and make the appointment for 6 months. MAKE SURE YOUR PCP KNOWS THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO CANCEL IF [WHEN] THE MERIDIA DOESN'T WORK.
otherwise, she won't do it.
and here's the reasoning behind it. in 6 months after your doc sees that you aren't losing significant amounts of weight, you will have to wait another 3-4 months to see the surgeon!!! this way, you'll have your official '6 months of MD-supervised diet program' under your belt and documented, and once the decision is made to move forward, you won't be held up by overbooked surgeons.
and please don't leave. there are so few hockey fans around here!!!
