Post Help, The Cookie Diet

Hello, I'm new to this forum and was wondering if anyone has heard or done the Cookie Diet. I started the diet 1 week tomorrow and was looking for some much needed support.

This diet sounds like just one of any number of super restrictive diets. It is considered a VERY LOW CALORIE diet and accordingly, will work for a time (until your body shuts down due to starvation -- been there, done that). A VLCD (very low calorie diet) is one that provides 1/2 or less of your Basal Metabolic Requirements in calories per day. It will work, just like any other VLCD diet (see http://www.exrx.net/Questions/StarvationEffect.html for a discussion of the effects of too few calories on your system, and http://www.consumer.gov/weightloss/adnauseum.pdf for more information). It also won't help you make life-long proper food choices, unless you want to eat nothing but the Dr.'s cookies for the rest of your life! Best of luck!

Yes I hear you are restricted to 800 cals a day on this "cookie diet" -- but yet ones body needs 1200 to live? No offense, but you may consider a different type of diet....

This diet is the hardest diet I have ever done in my life. You are right you do starve yourself. I have never felt hunger on any diet like this one. It may also have to do with the fact that I'm not taking the pills. I will go in on Tuesday for my first weigh in, am going to speak to the Dr. because I'm hungry most of the day.

There are no gimmicks or tricks to long term, sustainable weight loss. Eat more healthy foods, eat less crap, watch portion sizes, move your body.

That's it, really.

Hi Isi606, welcome to 3fc I think you are the only one here that has tried the Cookie Diet so you may not find someone to buddy up with. Most of our members that have tried Very Low Calorie diets have not had long term success with them, and move on to other diet plans. However, we hope you'll still stick around! We have a lot of support threads that are not diet-specific, and our exercise forums are great, too.

Good luck!

Good luck and keep us posted on what you learn. I've never heard of this type of diet.

Well...it sounds to me this diet will not work long term. If you plan to keep your weight loss you need to find a diet you will be able to stick to for life. Or what we like to call a life style change. Best of luck with whatever you choose.

I am just reading up on it and according to an ABC news report, Nutritionist Amy Campbell says it is "woefully lacking in fruits and vegetables, as well as calcium, vitamin D4 and fiber" as well as being extremely low calorie.

I admit I am not a fan of fad diets and I tend to agree with Glory's comments... to really lose weight and become healthy, eat right and move your butt.

But I do welcome you to 3FC and hope you stick around; there's lots of great in put here!!

Yeah I was wondering that too... It sounds like a fun diet, cookies for breakfast, cookies for lunch, cookies for dinner! Rather like my pre-healthy days!

From what I read on the ABC site... no, you get one meal a day... dinner;' BUT even at that all you get is 6 oz of lean chicken, turkey, seafood or fish and one cup of vegetables. You don't eat breakfast or lunch but eat exactly six "hunger-suppressing" cookies a day, when you are hungry.

From the ABC News site:

"It's really just another fad diet that will hook people in with the gimmick of being able to eat cookies all day," said Amy Campbell, a nutrition and diabetes educator at the Joslin Clinic in Boston. "While this sounds appealing, a closer look at the details reveals that this is not a nutritious eating plan at all."

Sorry to sound so harsh in my first post -- I just WENT through an excruciating time at a Very Low Calorie Diet clinic last week, and I think I was less supportive that I could have been. HOWEVER, I still stand by the content of what I said -- take a look at lifestyle and dietary changes so you can maintain the weight loss for the rest of your life. Take your money, put it in the bank, and blow it on clothes when you are ready. You will get more for your money doing THAT than giving it over to some anonymous MD who already makes more money than God...
