Newbie Here

Good morning gang! I have been on this message board reading posts for a few days and I decided to become a member. I really need some support on this journey. I am 5'5 145lbs and would like to loose about 15-20lbs. I have been working out at least 5 days a week so I am feeling very frustrated that I cannot loose more weight. I think this forum will help me to keep track of my food intake. So here is today so far...

B: 1/2C egg beater with sliced deli turkey, 1 med. pear 200c (7:15am)
S: 6oz low carb yogurt 80c (10:50am)
L: Lean Cuisine meal chicken w/green beans 220c (will eat at 2:00pm)

If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them. Take care! :D

Hi yogachick30 and Welcome!

You said you were working out 5 days a week what kind of workout do you do?

i know that the thing that has helped me the most is to add weight training, and to actually make my cardio more productive by doing interval training (like i will run 1/2 mile, slow down for about 1/4 mile, and then sprint 1/4 mile) and repeat 2-7 times

Hey there. Thanks for the welcome! I do weight training 2 days a week and the other 3-4 days are hour long step or kickboxing class. I also do an 1.5hrs boot camp class every Sunday morning with a trainer. I have been trying to keep my calories under 1500 per day so I don't know what I am doing wrong. I feel like I need to starve myself to lose weight. I don't want to do that but I'm at my witts end!

yogachick...
I also used to live in Columbus, and an OSU grad.....
Now residing in California though.

I think this is might be what I need. No I do not restrict any types of food, but rather try to avoid overeating. I am hoping by recording what I eat I will be better off at avoiding bad choices.

So here it goes:
Yesterday.
8am breakfast:
1 big cup of tea with 1.5 tsp of sugar
2 hard boiled eggs
1 slice of bread with thinly spread Light Smart Choice butter
1 slice of swiss cheese (not very thin, they had them pre-cut)
2 slices of Smoked Chicken (Butterball brand)

a bottle of water

12:10pm lunch
a large salad: cucumbers, spinach and mixed greens, tomatos, feta cheese, cranberries, walnuts, in 2 scoops of rasberry dressing
a dinner roll
a small bowl ~ 6oz or less of chicken noodle soup

4pm
1 Light Cafe Creations bar of Chocolate Expresso (Calories: 130, Fat 25, total fat 3g, Carbs 27g: fiber 2g, sugar 17; protein 2g) not a great choice but every few days I do allow it myself

6:30pm dinner
chichen breast (has 2 sides) - fried one side chopped into pieces with onion. Used 2/3 of table spoon of oil. Ate 1/2 of the amount fried
Cucumbers with salt and 1 tbsp of sour cream (non light, organic)
hot water (1 bottle warmed up). no tea.

1 bottle of water during and after workout

---can anyone roughly tell me how many callories I had for the day?

Today
8:30 am breakfast
Finished yesterdays chicken (made for dinner)
1 cup of tea with 1.5 tsp of sugar
cut 2/5 of bread slice and covered with homemade ragu (made by grandma out of skwash, and zuccini, and oil) - 1.5 tbsl of ragu

10:15am snack
12 baby carrots.
1/2 bottle of water

That's all so far.

Without knowing exact serving sizes/ingredients there's no way to accurately tell (by the way, does that chocolate have 25 grams of fat or 3 ???).

yume 12-08-2005 01:58 PM

yogachick30- do you cycle your calories? like eat mabye 1200 monday, 1400 tues, 1600 wed, 1400 thur, 1200 fri...and so on?

your workout stuff looks really good, you are crazy, but also do you try to incorporate some exercise all day? in addition to running and weights i usually wear a pedometer around and do from 6,000-10,000 steps a day (about 3-5 miles) either from walking around the office, getting off about two stops early on the metro, walking to the grocery store...all that adds up to about 20-35 extra miles of activity per week (roughly an additional 10,000 cal of working out) i dont know what else to really tell you...except maybe you just hit a weight loss peaking and are going to hold steady for a bit as your body catches up...

just try to stick with it for a few weeks before you lower you cals too much and dont starve yourself (from personal expereince it does terrible things to your mood and mostly makes you a b*%#@ to be around)

I don't really do a cycle of calories. I do battle eating after dinner. I am not really hungry but I can't stop myself from making 4-5 trips to the kitchen getting snacks, e.x- f.f cottage cheese, P.B on a pita, fruit, s.f jello. I am so good all day but for some reason I have such a hard time at night. I live alone and I do get lonley at night. This is probably not helping matters. But even with some snacks in the evening I still am not eating more than 1600 max but most days it is 1100-1400.

disclaimer: personal view only.
For me snacking can lead to a possible binge, so I am training myself not to do snacking. Rule one (as I also live alone) no snack food available, or if I do have some it is carrots! or cucumber! Rule two, if I cook I cook just enough for one time, at worst, for two, but right away I pack and freeze the second portion. For me going and microwaving it is work, so I am lazy to do that much for just a snack.
Rule three, I made it a 21 day challenge no food after dinner!
Being under calories I think is great, but eating too late and to close to bed time is not that great, less is processed by body and turns into fat, and the body digestive system does not get enough rest when you sleep.

CBETA 12-08-2005 04:22 PM

Lunch time around noon
yo-yo sushi
Nigiri yo-yo, 10 sushi items, small salad, and miso
Water with lemon

yogachick30 12-08-2005 04:43 PM

Thanks CBETA

You have pointed out a few important keys to help me. I never even thought about not allowing my digestive tract any time to relax since it has to work all night. I will make a challenge to myself not to eat snacks after dinner. Thanks again for the info CBETA!

Is it really bad to eat late at night? I know I tend to eat more later and budget calories for a late night snack.
