I came in too late on dinner, but would have said basically what Ilene said. I'd just like to add to make that whole wheat pasta next time too. Every bit helps. But definately on her comments about the bologna. They don't say "You're full of bologna" for nothing. And it's not used as a compliment! LOL I stick with lean deli turkey, chicken or ham. I also nix the processed American and opt for Swiss cheese myself.

Boy I wish we could eat like that. We are just to picky though. I did search online to see if broccoli could be roasted but I could not find a recipe for that anywhere. I wish I could make broccoli taste like they do in restaurants!!

I was going to do this! But I new I would be to full. I didn't even finish my plate!

Quote:
For your lunch why did you choose bologna that is extremely high in fat even if the package says it's lean? Lean chicken slices would be much better add some romaine lettuce to your sandwich too that would be filing...
Well, I have not been shopping yet. And that was the rest of my lunch meat from last week. It is all gone now. Next week I am going to get one of the items you mentioned above. I think the deli would be better then the prepackaged meats. And I am hoping to get some romaine again! I like that! But it is so expensive here sometimes.

NO 11 doritoes, have some raw carrots and celery if you are feeling you need a crunch...
Lol.. I was not sure if that was a good choice or not. I would have been fine with just one chip. But I already put it in the fitday charting thing so I finished them. I have a hard time with raw carrots because they are so hard (I have a partial and some sensitive teeth) but I can do celery. Is celery and peanut butter a good choice? I have enjoyed that in the past.

Now thats a good one! I have to start remember all of these short hands lol. It makes this a lot easier.

Awesome! I am going to have to go in there and do some messing around! That site is a neat site! Thanks for sharing it.

Thank you and congrats yourself! Boy is that ever hard to do! I try to stay far away from places with smokers!! It makes it a little easier.

Quote:
well, there are several things i wanted to comment on...you are having several of the problems i have had, and i figured out some ways to overcome them...

1. I hate water...so to start out, I drink water at meals and let myself have diet soda or tea when I'm not eating. The added benefit of this is that you get to enjoy the taste of your food more since you're not covering your taste buds with suggary taste after every bite.
Now this is a good idea!!! I love it before bed and during and after working out too! That is a good way to think of it at meals though.. because the taste does affect the foods!

Quote:
2. You were asking about fruits...to make them last longer, you can put oranges, apples, peaches and kiwis in the fridge. They last at least a week longer that way for me. bananas do really badly when they get cold. but if you like bananas, you can either slice them up or put them in a blender with a little water and freeze them, and it's like ice cream. grapes are wonderful in the freezer and so are blueberries. you mentioned a tight budget, and i completely understand that!! blueberries are a little bit expensive, but seedless grapes are usually something you can find on sale, and they are wonderful. they're cold so i can't eat them fast, and i can make a serving (12 grapes for me) last for an entire hour long tv show.
also, you can eat some canned fruits, they're a lot less expensive. pears and peaches and pineapples at least can be found sweetened with splenda or in water or lite syrup. I just rinse them to make sure they don't have syrup on them when i eat them.
I can see myself at the store lol. I am going to have to control myself lol. I am going to go wild I can just see it. I can't wait to go shopping for all of this good food!!! That is an excellent idea with the grapes!!! It takes forever for me to eat them too! That is a perfect idea!! Better then the sucker I used to suck on while watching tv!!! The sucker was in place of a cigarette... but I have not had a sucker in weeks.

I can't wait to go shopping! I love all of these new foods with splenda in them! I cannot have aspertame! It triggers my migraine headaches. All I can have is real sugar or splenda. And of course... there is NOT any real sugar in my house what so ever!!! Lol. Thanks for the heads up on the canned fruit with splenda! And that is an awesome idea to drain and rinse the fruit before eating it!!

Quote:
3. You were saying that you are italian and like a big plate of food...so do i. but what i had to learn is that you have to make the choices that are best for your body. have a small serving of pasta, a small serving of meat and cheese and sauce. and a looot of veggies.
That is what I did tonight. I feel good too.

Quote:
you said that you try to eat 2 veggies a day, but that is not enough. and corn and potatos aren't veggies. they count as starches. a veggie has around 20-35 calories in a serving (1/2 cup cooked, 1 cup raw generally). bulk up your meal with these veggies and then savor tiny bites of an entree.
I never thought of the starch thing. I need to buy a book on different foods. This can be a bit confusing!

Quote:
4. you said something about salads...how much dressing do you put on a salad? does it have a lot of meat and cheese and bacon bits and crutons and on it? if so, a salad can easily add up to something worse than another meal.
I put a LOT of lettuce, cabbage, fresh mushrooms and cucumbers in if i can. those things have practically no calories in them. i don't use cheese. i don't use crutons or bacon bits. if i'm making it at home, i'll chop up a couple of ounces of sliced turkey breast and some carrots and whatever other veggie i have. then i put one or two tablespoons of dressing in a separate bowl. then i dip my fork in the dressing before i put the salad on it. that way, i taste dressing in every bite, but am not eating hundreds of calories in dressing.
Now that is an excellent idea with the dressing!! Lately all that has been in a my salad is lettuce, cheese, and dressing. I do like to put in tomatoe, cucumbers, green peppers (I only eat these raw), and sometimes shredded carots. But, I ran out of these so I had lettuce and cheese only. My dressing bottle says 2 tablespoons is a serving.. but I don't think I use that much because when I measured it out before it was like half that. I don't like to much. It just over powers the salad if you use to much of it.

Quote:
overall, dieting is just about choices. you have to make the right choice for your body.
choose to drink that water with a meal because it's not so bad with food. choose to eat fruit instead of chips. choose to eat baked chicken (or if you have to have fried, take that skin off and throw it away immediately! - cause if you're anything like me, and it sits there, you'll eat it!! )
LOL!!! I think I am looking at myself in the mirror lol. If the skin is anywhere near me for to long it will be gone!! But in my mouth instead of in the garbage lol. I think I am just going to start doing baked and stuff like that instead. It is just safer that way I am sure. I have to make the right choices (like you said) in order to succeed... if not I might cheat and then I am just messing myself up.

Quote:
you quit smoking. that's incredibly hard. i know. i did it. if you can do that, you can lose a few pounds!! it is a lot easier to lose weight than stop smoking!!
so anyway, that was a lot of typing. i hope it's a little helpful at least!
This was another awesome post!! Thank you so much! I cannot tell you how much I have learned on this board in the past few days!! It has been awesome!! Thank you (all of you) so much!
best of luck to you in your weight loss!!

Thanks! Lol I sure do try! There is no point in me being here and asking if I don't put it to use. If I didn't listen I am not only waisting everyone's time but I am cheating myself in the long run. It took me years (gosh I feel old hahaha) to shut up and admit that lo.

No more bologna in my house after today! It is all gone. How is mozzerella (sp?) or provolone cheeses? We don't care very much for swiss cheese. I will have to check into whole wheat pasta.

I believe any "white" cheese is better than yellow American. Even white American may be better. I don't recall the reasoning, but was told something about white from a naturopathic doctor. But start reading the labels. Check them all against one another as far as calorie, sodium, fat, etc. content.

And celery with PB or even a lowfat cream cheese is 100% better than Doritos. Wish my hubby would figure that out. But an economy sized bag of Doritos and a can of jalopeno cheddar is right up his alley. Course, he's underweight. But it's still unhealthy eating. Especially when added to his 4 cans of Mtn. Dew a day. Ick.

Wow... today was such an AWESOME day!!!!

First of all... when I took my son to see the doctor I asked about my dieting plans. The doctor was so excited to hear that I was not doing SBD anymore but I was counting calories!! She said she stands behind WW and calorie counting 100%! She said I should be eating 1600 calories a day! So that is awesome because I was going to do between 1500 and 1800... which she said was fine.

Also, I went shopping today! It was so much fun. But they were sold out of grapes lol. I did gets TONS of good stuff though.... fresh brocolli, tomato, red potatoes (for my roast), cantalope, honeydew melon, strawberries, carrots (more for my roast then anything), celery, lettuce, peaches, canned pineapple chunks, canned low carb splenda fruit cocktail, canned low carb splenda peaches, pork loin roast, shoulder roast, lite cream cheese, oven roasted turkey breast, lite kroger brand yogurt with splenda... and tons more!!! I did great! They had some AWESOME sales. The roasts were like ½ the regular price on sale! Oh, healthy choice meals were on sale big time!! So I got a few of those too. I am set for a week or so now. I should go great this week! I have a lot of more healthy choices now. We didn't buy any chips or anything!! Well, Wheaties were on sale and we did get those.. but that was it. But I have been eating oatmeal... but that is good for a quick breakfast once in awhile I would think.

How do I steam fresh brocolli??? I was not exactly sure how to do that but for the price I didn't want to pass it up!

Also.... I drank 2 bottles of water and a large cup of ice tea today!! Much better then normal. And... I have not felt better in months then I have the past few days since I started exercising again!!

Ohh... we ended up having to go to McDonalds for lunch today. I am hoping I made a better choice to eat there today! I did stay around 1700 calories today (not including the 200 I earned from exercise) though. Anyway, I had one of there new premium grilled chicken sandwiches. I got the classic.. only lettuce, tomato, and there was some mayo on it on a wheat bun. And I only ate half the fries. I thought that would be a better choice there. I probably could have skipped the mayo but I didn't think of it till I was eating it.

Anyway, sorry for rambling. I am just so excited and so appreciative for all of your help and support. Thank you ALL so very much!

Not that they're bad for ya, but might I suggest on the next shopping trip to try and opt for more fresh fruits rather than canned ones with juices and artificial sweetners mixed in? Fruits good. But fresh is better.

I know the Doritoes can't be great for his innards, but at least the high calorie foods he eats keeps him from dropping back down to 110 pounds (at 5' 11"). That, coupled with the 350 calorie Ensure drinks he slams. He doesn't eat more than twice a day, and usually only once. Eating makes him feel icky. And quite frankly, he's gone some days forgetting to eat at all. I'm constantly reminding him.

This is really a great thread! I have been looking forward to reading this everyday since I'v been comming here. TMunday, you are doing so much better! I'm so happy for you. Was wondering if anyone wouldnt mind taking a glance at my menu
So here goes for yesterday...
Breakfast I had one slice of Pepperridge Farm french toast vanilla swirl bread, toasted with Parkay 0fat/0cal "butter" spray
Lunch I had 1C Lipton red beans and rice
Snack I had 7 pieces dried apricots
Dinner I had 1/2 C string green beans, 1C lipton mushroom rice and 1 grilled chicken breast.
Another snack I ate about 10 pieces of dried pineapple (god I love those)
Fitday results:
Cals: 1302
Fat: 12
Carbs: 219
I drank almost 80oz of water

I think I did pretty good today. I recently switched from low carb to low fat, and its hard adjusting sometimes. I'm trying to follow Susan Powters plan (you know the 90's infomercial woman)

So there ya go, feel free to poke away! I'm ready for comments

I feel like such a criticiser or critiquer and I feel bad, a bit , but if you really want my 2 cents here it is, and if you didn't want my opinion you wouldn't ask I guess... OK here goes...

TMunday:
Quote:
How do I steam fresh brocolli???
I have this metal steamer basket thingie -- you can get it just about anywhere they sell kitchen stuff -- I put the steamer in a pot add an inch or so of water in the bottom, but not enough to cover the steamer. Bring you water to a boil before adding the brocolli. I time mine for 6-8 minutes max, if you forget to put your timer on when the brocolli is bright green it's ready, if it's olive green it's over done and will be mushy, it is edible but not as good as bright green brocolli will be....

Quote:

Much better choice than you would have done before I'm sure but you could have had a side salad with your grilled chicken sandwich instead of the fries, even if you ate only half of them. If you must reward yourself with junk food, choose a day like A Friday night out or Saturday or Sunday and have a cheat meal or treat. But I would suggest not to do treats too regularly because the empty calories will add up and sabotage your weight loss....OK?

Ok now for you katty67 ...

Breakfast I had one slice of Pepperridge Farm french toast vanilla swirl bread, toasted with Parkay 0fat/0cal "butter" spray A better choice would be oatmeal or something LESS processed than that French toast, that would hold me for, hhmmmm maybe 15 minutes and send me on binge later on in the day... I'm sure it's full of sugar too... Have an egg with some eggwhites for some protein...
Lunch I had 1C Lipton red beans and rice Add a LARGE salad to keep you fuller longer, have some tuna or salmon some kind of lean protein
Snack I had 7 pieces dried apricots Add these apricots to some yogurt or cottage cheese ''to keep you fuller longer'', I know I keep repeating ''to keep you fuller longer'' but for me that is crucial because if I don't get a LOT of fibrous foods like veggies and FRESH fruits I am ravenous 15-half an hour later....
Dinner I had 1/2 C string green beans, 1C lipton mushroom rice and 1 grilled chicken breast. This is pretty good but why only half a cup of beans, have as much as you want, without butter of course, but eat 2 cups of beans, they are nice and filling
Another snack I ate about 10 pieces of dried pineapple (god I love those)I've never had these but half a cup of FRESH pineapple mixed in with 1/2c cottage cheese or yogurt would be a much better choice IMHO...
I drank almost 80oz of water EXCELLENT!!
At a glance too your food plan doesn't seem to have much protein...

HTH and TTFN .... I'm off for a bike ride and the gym

I don't think Ilene is critical. I think she's an awesome help. Lordy, she's almost my age and bikes 18 kms before she goes to the gym. She's doin' somethin' I gotta learn!

Anyway, I cut and pasted Katty67's menu and picked it apart ......

Breakfast I had one slice of Pepperridge Farm french toast vanilla swirl bread, toasted with Parkay 0fat/0cal "butter" spray
Do you like oatmeal? eggs? Something less processed?

Lunch I had 1C Lipton red beans and rice
I'm not familiar with this ... if it's low fat, I might just add a crunchy veggies and a little protein

Snack I had 7 pieces dried apricots
If you added a little protein here it would tide you over better. I love dried fruit but find it's pretty high calorie

Dinner I had 1/2 C string green beans, 1C lipton mushroom rice and 1 grilled chicken breast.
Yum! ... I usually choose salad over the rice or whatever carb I make for my family. But sometimes you're just hungry and rice is a good carb to choose.

Another snack I ate about 10 pieces of dried pineapple (god I love those)
My same thoughts on dried fruit, but it is sooo good.

Your stats look good!
