  • Quote: Have you had your thyroid checked recently?
Not yet. That's funny though because I just read about this yesterday and was thinking about it!! I am hoping to have my doc check this and everything else out very soon. Hopefully they can find something and help figure out what needs to be done.
  • From what I'm seeing in the meals you posted, there's no balance. Lots of carbs, starches and protein, but not much in the way of fiber. Probably even too many carbs. Just look at the first day where you had Cheerios, english muffin, 2 buns and fries. Maybe drop the fries for another veggie and replace the buns with a veggie and have the meat off the bread. You can get bags of frozen veggies (without all the added sodium) fairly cheap.
  • I had to add my two cents...

Back in the 1980's, I regularly skipped breakfast and lunch - didn't eat until nighttime usually - but then I would eat a BOATLOAD of calories. I 'skipped breakfast and lunch' all the way to gaining about 100 pounds in that time.

No matter what 'plan' you're on, I have to concur with other folks here - your list contains way too many processed, high-calorie foods, which are devoid of any real nutrition (a lot of those "whole wheat buns" are no better than the regular white buns).

I'd ace all of the hot dogs, turkey bacon etc, and go for leaner meats, add more veggies (fresh ones preferably) and fruit, and have oatmeal instead of cold cereal, but that's just me.

These were not normal days. But the one's I remembered about what I ate. What foods are fiber? I don't man to sound totally stupid... but I am trying to learn everything so I can do this the correct and healthy way!
  • Quote: 4'11" and 6'2" ! My husband isn't that much taller than me but he loses easier than I do too. More muscle those darned men!
I have heard that men lose a lot faster then women no matter what. It probably has a lot to do with muscle mass.

You're very smart, doing all that reading. I'm finding that a lot of successful slimmers, read everything they can get their hands on and then sort of make up what works for them.
This is kind of what I was thinking. I try to use what I learned while on WW and SBD today. But sometimes it does get hard. But one day I am going to find the magic potion!

    Quote:
I can relate with the needing to be frugal with the grocery money thing. I love diet coke. So 'we're' on the same page there. That's the thing I like about 3fc, there's always someone to relate to.
Yes! I find that very awesome!! It sure is nice being able to talk to so many different people on different plans and so forth! I find it very helpful.

    Quote:
Now, the food ... I think the SBD dinners you're talking about sound great. Even what you listed at the top there could be tweaked to be much healthier (and cheaper). Simply watch the fats you added, salad dressing, egg yolks, bacon, try lower fat milk .... try leaner proteins like egg whites, tuna, fish, chicken, no fat cottage cheese ... you already know about the vegetables.
For instance that one dinner of hamburgers ... if you had just the patties, a vegetable and salad? It'd be much bigger and really good for you.
I have done that with the burger meals before! Very filling. I do eat a lot of chicken! I love diet coke chicken breasts and premade chicken from the grocery store. I don't like cooking boned chicken myself because of the fear of it not being done. Plus is never tastes as good. I tried cottage cheese.. I didn't care for it. And I tried 1% milk and skim... no one in my house was very happy with that. No one used it! So I have to stick with 2%. I am happy about that though because we used to use Vit. D milk! I love catfish! Is that a good fish? And I eat turkey bacon... isn't that low in fat and good? I try not to eat to many eggs. I don't really care for them. But I make myself eat them.

    Quote:
That's fun ... I wish more people would post their ordinary diet and let us fool with it. Thanks Tracy.
No thank you!! I don't mind posting anything! The more I post I feel the better help and advice I would get. I just wish I could have listed a normal day of eating instead of the 2 lazy days lol.
  • Post a day of normal eating. We'll have a stab at that too

I'd have to look catfish up. We don't eat it much up here. 4 oz of catfish has 153 calories. No breading, no margarine ... just the catfish. That's fine!

Sounds good to me!! I will try to put to use all advice I find on the boards.

This is probably my problem too! I never watched calories I just ate. Didn't help that for a long time we ate a lot (as a normal menu everyday, not just on lazy days like mentioned on this board) of prepaired (processed) foods. Over the years doing this to myself is probably what totally screwed up my metabolism!

Normally we have chicken, fish, pork chops, and stuff. But no one else can cook around here and I didn't feel well so it was lazy days. I thought turkey bacon was healthy though? Is regular bacon better? I know it sure is cheaper!!

Can you make a list here of lean meats? I just want to make sure I have it correctly.

Fresh veggies are hard on the budget sometimes. Are frozen just as good? I have not done canned veggies in a couple of years. I do frozen but I also do fresh green beans and corn on the cob.

I love oatmeal! Not the instant stuff!! I just got some of that the other day and started eating it. I have found that it is much more filling and for a longer time!

I do appreciate your time here! I can't thank you (and everyone else) enough!

I can do that! Is there a book that gives you all of this kind of information? The catfish we ate last time was pre-marinated (store did it) in lemon pepper sauce stuff and I coated the pan with cooking spray. It was ok. Normally I do the breading.
  • Try signing up for fitday.com. It's free. A lot of 3fcer's use it. That's where I got that information for you.

Ok... thank you. I am going there right now.
  • The only comment I can make...and I hope this helps...is that you rely heavily (it seems) on pre-packaged and/or high fat foods. I used to eat a lot of them for convenience sake, but it might prove beneficial if you try to stick with more whole foods. Good luck!

    Amanda
  • Some good fiber choices are oatmeal (not instant) or high fiber cereals like All Bran and Fiber One (look at labels for the highest fiber content), whole grains (look for 100% whole wheat bread and choose brown rice), fruits (not bananas), vegetables (choose deep color veggies--not lettuce), beans and legumes. When you increase your fiber, be sure and increase your water intake.

For fats, choose small amounts of nuts, olives, olive and canola oil, seeds, and avocado. Lean meats would include chicken breast, turkey breast, loin cuts of pork and beef (usually the more expensive cuts, but you don't need that much for a serving). Fish is really good for you, especially salmon, as long as it's not breaded and deep fried. Do you have Farmer's Markets in your area or roadside veggie stands? Those places are often lower in price for vegetables. Frozen veggies are fine, and sometimes better than produce that's been shipped and sitting around a supermarket warehouse.
  • Amanda.... thank you.

Let me say this first.... the burgers I had.. those were made myself... I just bought ground chuck and mixed some spices in it and then cooked them on the grill. I just wanted to say that so everyone new they were pre-made at the store or something.

How do you know the difference in high fat and whole foods? Not to sound really stupid... but I want to make sure I understand. I have read a lot of diffferent diet plan books and it is starting to get confusing because one diet will say yes to ketchup (for an example) and another diet will say no.

I know there are foods out there that say low fat, no fat, fat free and so on... but I have read those are not good. Is this true? I don't think I have seen this on breads or anything though.

Any info. will be highly appreciated!

Also.. I am also checking out fitday.com!!! It looks awesome! I am going to start an account on there now!! That really might help me! It seems that site tells you everything!!! Thanks for the headsup on that SusanB!
  • I hope this doesn't come out wrong, but you keep saying "this is not a normal day" so I'm just wondering how many 'not normal' days you are having? If you have quite a few, then maybe that is the problem... not sticking to whatever plan you're following?

One of my problems before I started WW again in June, I kept telling myself that I really didn't eat that badly, why was I gaining all this weight?? I was in denial of how much I ate, and what I was eating. Measuring out everything I eat has helped so SOO much.

What you're planning for tonight - what kind of chicken is it? Is it fried, baked etc?? And I believe coleslaw is made with mayo, and is high in fat.

Also, maybe trade in the 100 calorie pack for a couple of pieces of fruit - tastes better and much better for you. I almost bought a box of those today cause they were on sale, but instead bought peaches and pineapple (and really not that much more!). We're on a fixed income too, so I understand that, and understand how hard it is to always buy healthy whole foods, when its cheaper to buy the pre packaged foods.

I totally agree with the oatmeal suggestion. I've started eating that for breakfast(and sometimes lunch!), and a 1/2 a cup is so filling. And its so much better to eat breakfast, than to skip it.

One more thing - how much water are you drinking? You have coffee and diet coke listed, but not water. Definitely make sure you're drinking water!

    Good luck!
