Did some reading at Martin Berkham's blog - LINK - Lean Gains, and since then, I just resist eating breakfast. Over time, now I enjoy skipping it. In fact, my idea of a good time in the morning is waking up on a weekend, drinking black coffee and XTend BCAAs - branched chain amino acids and watching Youtube videos. Maybe on a rare occasion I feel a tummy rumble, but I've grown such a resistance to it that I just react to it like "oh it's there" instead of actually eating an omelet or something.

Plus breakfast food in the evening? WIN!

As far as working out, BCAAs and coffee get me revved up. As far as breakfast ideas go - I'm all for eggs! If you want to carb-up (I tend to do that on lifting days) maybe something like omurice - which is rice inside an omelette - YUM.

As I just posted in another thread, a first meal of bone broth, an egg, and a handful of veggies will keep me full for hours and hours and hours.

I heat the broth, toss in the veggies (chopped asparagus, or some baby spinach, or chopped kale), add salt, and then slowly pour a beaten egg into boiling broth (like a mock egg drop soup). This will seriously hold me until my next meal for very few calories.

Another filling meal for me is two eggs, some veggies (usually spinach), and bacon or a sausage patty. Sometimes half a leftover baked potato chopped and pan fried. That sticks around in me forever, too. So maybe add some leftover potato or extra veggies.

Ian, I do box! It is wicked awesome, I love it. I don't kick box though, if that's what you meant, I do traditional boxing. Feel free to PM me if you ever want to chat more about it!
English muffin is big in my arsenal of breakfast foods! I find that the Vermont Bread Company makes awesome multi-grain english muffins that are soo soooooo soooo much better than Thomas'! When I'm in a rush out the door I toast one, add some ham and mayo, grab a banana and I am out the door good to go!

I used to love kick boxing! traditional boxing scares me, you go girl!

Why would anyone who's trying to lose weight say "thriving?" It's such a weird way to assess oneself. Thriving means to flourish and to grow, I'm a grown woman and don't need to thrive lol. Thrive is a term we associated with our son when he was a newborn.

I'm curious if those who eat no breakfast or only have a small meal in the morning eat a big dinner? I only eat about 300 calories at dinner, at about 4 or 5 o'clock, so by breakfast time I have zero energy and am ready to gnaw on my arm. I'm puzzled how you can fast for 12+ hours (from dinner to morning) and then not eat.

Probably what you are eating for breakfast is fine. But maybe you are trying to go too long before your next meal. I generally try to have lunch around midday. If i had breakfast before 8am, i would want something before midday though.

When you get hungry, eat something that is not junk food. If you are making yourself wait too long, that is why you are craving junk food. You should be eating sooner.

On my diet, i avoid getting too hungry. Basically i try to eat at pre determined meal times but if i feel hungrier earlier - particularly when i am away form home, when it is more likely to happen - because i am not topping up with coffee all the time, then i need to deal with it when it appears and not delay.

if you address your hunger when it appears with good food you will avoid the cravings for junk. This is one of the reasons i say to avoid overly restricting your calories, and instead restrict your calories as little as possible. Its just a lot easier to lose weight this way.

I don't follow low-carb. However, I do have a few breakfast suggestions to help you feel full if you don't mind the carbs.

Oatmeal with Peanut Butter or Chocolate Protein Powder mixed in.
Greek Yogurt with Pecans (and maybe some raw honey)
Whole Grain Toast with Eggs and Avacado

If you're doing intermittent fasting then you eat more at the other meal times generally. But you have to find what works for you. I "thought" that intermitten fasting was working for me and I tried it for a long while. But I kept some careful eating records and found out that on days that I eat a big breakfast I make better choices and eat less throughout the day. So that's what I do now, I never thought I'd say this again but it turns out that breakfast is the most important meal of the day for me. If I skimp on breakfast the rest of my day is lousy!

On fasting days I don't eat until dinner, when I eat 500 calories or less (and no, I don't wake up physically hungry, though sometimes mentally!). On a normal day when I don't eat breakfast, yes my dinners are relatively large. Either way, there was an adjustment period for me to get used to not eating breakfast (more of a mental hunger because I was so used to having a morning meal). But for some people they do better eating a big breakfast and smaller dinner.

I only eat breakfast during the week because it's part of my meal plan. I have an 80 calorie breakfast (two crustless quiche) around 8:15 and drink my tea all morning. I have a serving of fruit around 11, then lunch around 1:30.

During the weekends I find that I usually don't eat until around 2pm because it never crosses my mind. I always make my tea then get started on all of the weekend chores and projects until the hunger sets in.

I do protein. I have a two-egg omelet and an EAS Advantedge protein shake and I'm good to go! Oh, and my herbal tea throughout the morning.

Dealing with hunger - the age-old problem. For me, I picked several foods that are low-calorie and (to me) tasty, and I made sure that I had plenty in stock. I eat a large helping either at mealtime or for a mid-day snack. My favorites are watermelon, stir-fried squash/zucchini/onion, and grilled peppers/onions. The best part is that I don't have to feel guilty about eating a big bowlful of it when I'm hungry (as long as I don't go absolutely nuts with it).

The breakfast that keeps me satisfied longest is oats or grits with two poached eggs, I couldn't figure why I was getting hungry with oatmeal, even if I added fruit and nuts, but adding the eggs did the trick for me. Keep adjusting, you'll find it!

DiamondGeog did I read right that you put butter and oil in your coffee? I have never heard that, I can't imagine what it tastes like, or does it not add flavor really?
