Since middle school I have been in the 180's and over. When I got my period I was probably about 170. TOM for me used to last 5 days like clockwork. Now, I am getting 2 1/2-3 day and it is a little lighter. Could this be attributed to a weight loss?
The reason I am asking is because I remember when I had gotten our favorite monthly visitor for the first time and I went to the doctor because it had been pretty heavy. The doctor said it was probably because I was on the heavier side. So with weight loss can my TOM actually change? Has anyone else gone through this as well? Maybe this is a really obvious question but I have never heard of it happening.
I don't have any medical evidence but I've certainly heard anecdotal evidence from other friends that weight loss or gain affects their ToM. I'd say roll with it and enjoy your shorter period if you're not noticing any other negative symptoms during that time!
I also have no real proof, but mine had always been 7 or 8 days, but this last one was 5. Idk though, I'm off the pill for the first time (not pregnant or trying) in 10 years (hormones made me crazy as the years went on), and I had a baby in December, so who knows exactly what it's attributed to. I'd like to think it's my body's way of thanking me for treating it better though
Mine has gotten shorter and lighter, my cycle has also gotten more regular (and it was never particularly irregular before, but my menstruation and ovulation signs are like blinking lights these days). It is very common with weight loss and diet changes, in particular.
I have Mirena but it never stopped my cycles in the 2 years since placement. I regularly had a five day TOM that gradually got further apart And heavier as I put on weight. 28 days at 180 in middle school to an eventual 34 day cycle at 198 lbs when I got pregnant. It is currently 2-3 days but 25 day cycle since I have hit a normal range BMI in December. I guess my hormones have to adapt.
my cycle has been regular for years thanks to birth control pills...however ive noticed my TOM getting lighter and shorter as ive lost weight....in particular, when ive been working my body HARD or putting it through a big eating change, i wont even get a TOM although i should thanks to placebo pills..i will get aches and cramps but no actual TOM
I'm another one with regular cycles thanks to the pill, but I have noticed that my periods have gone from about 5 days to about 3.5 days, and the cramps seem better as well, so I'm hoping it's something that sticks around because it's so nice having shorter periods!
That's really interesting to see that I'm not the only one! I guess our bodies just adapt to the lower weight as some of you said. I am not currently on the pill and my periods have always been regular but they have been shorter and lighter so I was concerned. Definitely nice to have the lighter/shorter periods!!!
