I seem to be the only person here who doesn't get sodium-related water retention, despite having varying amounts of salt, and sometimes quite a bit of it for medical reasons. Painkillers, on the other hand, can make me retain a good pound or so without anything else happening.

I find daily weighing far less stressful than weekly weighing would be. It's just a matter of routine, you know the individual numbers don't mean much, it's not something you build up to all week.

I weigh-in about every other day. I don't have any set pattern. If I feel like getting naked ASAP in the morning and weighing, I will. But if I trek downstairs to get the kids breakfast and start eating/drinkinkg, I won't weigh-in, since my numbers would be "off". It doesn't bother me to skip days, b/c I am always on-plan, so I know my weight is going to be okay.

I find the fluctuations very fascinating. It's like a science experiment! My controlled element, is that I am always, always within a reasonable calorie limit, so fluctuations are always based on excercising, water retention, hormones, time of day, etc. It has been cool to learn those patterns and predict what the number will be. I always know when I've lost weight. I just know when the scale will give a lower number.

I'm going to echo all the others who have cautioned that if you weigh daily, you need to make sure that the fluctuations you're going to see won't stress you out even *more* than your weekly weigh-in.

I started to weigh myself daily just because I was curious, but I had to stop because the anxiety I felt over the daily fluctuations was driving me batty. I knew logically that, you know, there's no way I gained three pounds of fat in twelve hours, but still...that number was there, and it stuck in my brain.

So if you think you can make peace with the normal fluctuations you *will* see from day to day, go ahead! I wish I could be a daily weigher, but...it's not in the cards for me at all. Good luck!

I also weigh morning and night. And I went through about a month where I weighed before and after I ate, drank, or went to the bathroom - with and without clothes... just to teach myself about fluctuations and their causes.

I was hoping that I could learn about my fluctuations and unlearn the number-phobia.

It worked on both accounts.

Daily weighing traditionally involves weighing in at the same time every day, usually first thing in the morning, after going to the toilet but before eating. If you were weighing yourself at 12-hourly intervals, then of course you would have seen an erratic pattern, due to food consumption and so forth. Did you ever try weighing yourself first thing in the morning only?

Another weigh daily person. I weigh 1st thing, in the buff, after bathroom break. I log it on a calendar above the scale. I'm also another one who started doing it to learn about my body's fluctuations.

I look at the difference from the 1st of the month to the end of the month. When I was losing as long it was trending down I was happy. Now that I'm maintaining, I keep a 2 pound range. As long as I'm within that, I'm happy.

As a Weight Watcher member, I track all my food, exercise and a few notes about my day. So checking daily weights against food, exercise and mood, really gives me a good solid knowledge of how my body reacts.

Hi all! I usually check the scale every morning just to keep me going in the right direction, but my actual weigh-in is once every two weeks. That's the only time I record my weight. I also take a weight-loss progression picture at the same time as my weigh-in.
When I first started, I wasn't losing any weight according to the scale, but according to my photos, I could see that I was losing inches!

I try to weigh in every day but Saturday, and it's helped me to see the fluctuations in my weigh in relationship to my monthly cycle. I've been able to see the pattern of weight loss, and if I go up a few pounds mid-cycle, I know that it's going to whoosh off soon after. I don't stress about the numbers each day, but it sure is good to see the ending weight at the close of each month.

There are daily weigh in threads in the 100lb club and everyone is very supportive there. It's good to look at the daily weigh ins of others to get a feel how different it is for each person.

I weigh every day** and I DONT have a set "official weigh in day" For me the biggest problem with weekly weighing is the fluctuations matter MORE. I usually lose <1 lb per week but water weight can make a 5+ lb difference. If I have a low weight one week and a high the next I can get frustrated. But if I am weighing daily I can see fluctuation as normal and I only focus on new lows. (I have a slightly different method for maintaining or off plan times). This means one week I might have 4 "official days" and next week I might have none. Last week I had 4 in a row.

Transitioning to daily weighing can be a challenge if you are prone to anxiety. For me it reduced anxiety in the long run, but initially it takes some time to adjust.

** I do NOT weigh on days that I expect a bad number such as the night after a party or a really sodium filled day or if I wake up feeling bloated.

I was weighing myself at the same time every day, under the same conditions. "12 hours" was just...I don't know, a figure of speech? In any case, the daily weighing did not work for me mentally.

This exactly what i do, i weight myself twice a day just to rate the overall day and diet situation. And now that i'm on a cyclical diet, i can actually tell how much water retention i could get after some type of carbs.
