This is one reason that I advocate against time-based weight goals. If you set a goal like "lose 10 pounds in August," now that August is almost over and you clearly aren't going to meet that goal, you have practically given yourself license to give up.
Instead, try setting a goal like "stay on plan every day for 30 days" or even just "stay on plan for today" or even just "make the best choice the very next time I am faced with an eating opportunity". I find that this kind of behavior-oriented - rather than results-oriented - mindset makes it a lot easier to get right back on the horse immediately after a slip-up. Immediately meaning at the very next eating opportunity - not even the next day or "after the weekend" or whatever.
If you can take control over your behavior, the results will follow. So start your plan right now and pledge to stay on plan today. if you slip up, get up and keep right on going. That's all you have to do.

I have PCOS and I really can't control how my body will react to weight loss. I tried the timing issue and all it did was make me feel frustrated and like a failure.
The best thing I EVER did for myself was start setting goals like "Eat 1 piece of fruit a day" "Drink water every day" and that translated, eventually, to eating clean and exercising every day.... and also 30-35 lbs gone.
You can do it, but you need to change your mindset first.
As for the workout. I've BTDT too and have had annoying neighbors. Can you get a carpet that you can do your workout on top of so that it won't bother them? Can you try to do it at a time of day when it's not an issue? You might just want to tell them (or the landlord) that you will be working out at a certain time of day and they just have to deal with it.
Hi! I've tried working out earlier in the day but I've still gotten complaints. I bought a jump map from beachbody that I received yesterday. I'm going to try it out this morning, hopefully it helps
You didn't gain 5 lbs of fat. Don't panic. Did you gain some fat? Probably but it takes 3500 excess calories to add a pound of fat. So unless you went on some kind of amazing binge the actual amount of fat you gained is probably minro.
Experiment with different ways of dieting. Everyone is a little different but generally speaking processed foods and sugar without fiber are the kinds of food that do little to satiate hunger and often do just the opposite so consider eliminating them completely for a while.
Lastly - don't beat yourself up but also don't allow yourself to be a victim of circumstance. The world is not out to get you. You could have gone on a brisk walk for 45 mintues and burned 400 calories.
It is cliche but it is true to say that it doesn't matter how many times you fall as long as you get back up. Shake it off - think about what you learned - move on.
I am trying to eat better, I have fruits every day and I have whole grain cereal (but I have like 4 servings because 1 is just a tease). I take my lunch to work and everything but I'm constantly hungry. Maybe I think I'm hungry because things are really slow at work and I'm bored I honestly don't do anything else other than think about my weight and food. It's on my mind all the time.
You were right! I weighted in this morning and I'm 201, so I gained 2 pounds which is better than 5, I guess... Thanks for your advice
(Also, don't weigh yourself in the evening! Whatever you ate throughout the day will be in your tummy and digestive system. No weighing until morning!)
(Double also: in order to have gained 5lb you would have to have consumed 17,500 calories OVER your maintenance calories. Are you sure you have had that many extra calories since the last time you weighed? No? Didn't think so!)
Kelly - you said I need to focus more on my emotional well-being and I think you're absolutely right. I honest cried so much when I couldnt finish my workout and was venting here, but then I went and got a giant bowl of cereal, which I think made me feel better while I was eating it? That seems so sick in the head, something is really wrong with me. What do I do?
Rana - I always read online how people should have short term goals and I thought a 1 month goal would be good for me. But I lost all of my weight by just eating healthier and counting calories, not really going by goals. I'm not going to set goals for myself anymore, other than daily ones like you mentioned. Thanks!
You have to stop soothing yourself with food. It's a habit that probably started when you were little--sometimes parents give kids sugar to "shut them up." Bad idea...
But now you have to break that cycle. Whether you're mad, sad, glad, or afraid, food is not the answer to your feelings.
fat, we have pretty much the same stats, and I think your overview of yourself was a little too critical. You NEED to get out and move around. That is how you will burn calories.
About the jump thing. Have you tried a rebounder? Also called a mini trampoline. Walmart has one by Gold's gym. The rebounder is excellent. It will make you feel revved too because it has a good effect on your mood as well, something about extra circulation to everywhere. Why don't you try that? Less than $40 in my area.
Follow all of this good advice. And remember You are "Fearfully and wonderfully made".
I recommend getting some exercise equipment that doesn't make noise, for example, I used to have a magnetic stationary bike, $100 at Walmart, nearly silent, and I could watch TV while working out.
And give up the All or Noting mentality, that's actually made me gain weight! Weight loss is not a linear process, ups and downs, make little changes, and find BALANCE! Balance in your actions and reactions!

How do I do this? Are there any books that any one recommends or something? I know I have an emotional eating problem.

hi jen - i was hit by a car about 10 years ago (when i was 14) and my tibia and fibula were fractured. I had to have surgery and have a metal rod from my knee to my ankle. When I was 155 this didn’t bother me at all. My leg would only hurt if I tried to run or over did it on the elliptical. As I gained weight I stopped working out and just kept gaining and now I have pain on a daily basis. Even just walking hurts.
Sorry to write so much, I hope that explains why I don’t walk outside. I do have a stationary bike but its so freaking boring LOL I like doing DVDs better. But I’m thinking about maybe doing both now. I never heard of a rebounder, I’ll go check some out on amazon. Although I really need to stop spending so much money on fitness equipment LOL

I do have a stationary bike, but I find it kind of boring LOL. I got a jump mat which really helps muffle any stepping that I do, so I'll continue to use it. I'm going to add the bike back into my workout though, thanks!
you've GOT to let those bad days go. i know, easier said than done. but if you keep comparing your worst days against each other, you won't win. each new day is just that, a new day. a new day to start fresh and be better. its ok if every day isn't an ideal eating/exercising day. maybe your goals are too high still. losing weight isn't just about seeing a less number on the scale, its about a healthy lifestyle to keep it off and be the best you can. so perhaps consider your goals and think of creating smaller more achievable goals. like, for a full seven days, try to increase your water intake by one more glass each day. try to not have soda for two days straight. go shopping at the grocery store and splurge a little on healthier tastier more expensive organic stuff and have a healthy friday night *feast*

thanks, j. I'm going to change my goal to my next reachable one instead of my ideal goal. I think that might help
i have a beautiful exercise bike too. I find it incredibly boring as well. I run to the wii a lot...I just attach the remote, and go for a run and try to pass people.
