Not everyones metabolism is the same so just because someone loses weight by starving themselves doesnt mean that you can do it too, be your own person. Starving yoursell when you are overweight doesnt help because when you fianlly doo eat your body takes advantage of it and stores as much of the fat as possible because it doesnt want to starve again. Please dont starve yourself it is not healthy try to eat at least 1200 calories a day if you wish to be successful, and even if you find success in starving yourself, your not going to keep that weight off when it is time to maintain.

That's really interesting!!

You know, I couldn't possibly stick to a diet that restricted in a million years.... I mean 1K a day with my activity level. I'd gnaw off my own hand... I get HUNGRY! I'm eating a lot more, because I'm burning close to 3K calories each day. Maybe if I have a completely sedentary day where I literally do nothing at all, it would work, and only if I didn't get hungry. I really wish I could try on Friday, my day off! Just because I'd love to do NOTHING for just one day! LOL!

Thanks for your tossing in your 2 cents!

1000/day!?

Are you kidding me!?

My BMR for a woman, 5'5", 50+ years old and laying in bed, is around 1400 to maintain!

I do understand that lifestyle and height and age all need to be taken into consideration, 1000/day is simply not enough to get in the nutrition your body needs, unless you are very wise and educated about nutrition, and then following that program.

Even then, 1000 is a tough row to hoe.

5 servings of fruit/veggies, 2 servings of calcium, 1 to 2 servings of protein, and 1 to 2 servings of whole grains, 1 serving of healthy fat, tough to do on 1000 cals.

Then add in activity, work, etc. Not gonna get it.

Even if all you did was lay in bed 24/7, 1000 is most likely not enough to be healthy, unless you're like 2 feet tall.

I just wanted to pop in and say that counting calories alone has never worked for me in the long run--doing 1200 or 1600 didn't work for me unless I was ALSO exercising regularly and watching carbs. I eat 45 grams three meals a day plus 3 snacks of 15, and also carefully count protein and fats with a plan from my nutritionist.
Good luck!!

Actually, , you CAN get in you minimum macro nutrients on approx 1000 cals a day...
Twinieten- at 172 pounds you need, for fat loss, at minumum,
Protein --> .6 g protein x your weight in pounds = .6X172lbs = 103.2 grams of protein x 4cals/gram = 412 cals from protein
Carbs --> minimum = .2 grams X your weight in pounds = .2 X172lbs = 35 grams of carbs X 4 cals/ gram = 138 calories from carbs OR .3g carbs X 172 lbs = 51.6 grams carb X 4cals/gram = 206 cals from carbsFAT--> minimum .25 grams X your weight in pounds = .25 X 172 = 43 grams fat X 9 cals per gram = 387 cals from fat

MINIMUM macro nutrient requirement totals
Protein = 412 cals
Carbs = 206 cals
Fat = 387 cals
412+206+387= 1005 calories
