Unhappy Not losing fast enough...

So I'm really happy that people are saying I'm losing and they can tell, but I just feel like I'm not losing fast enough. To be completely honest - I don't really exercise. I'm only eating good and counting my calories. I noticed that I was losing more slowly when I was taking in less calories.

Past week or so I've increased the calories to about 1300-1400 cals. And had a whoosh.

I'm coming up on 3 months being on the diet, and have only really lost about 30 lbs (hoping to get there by the 7th). That's not enough. Any ideas of how to speed up the weight loss process? Thanks guys.

You've lost 30 pounds in three months without exercising and you don't think that's fast enough?! That's incredible weight loss! That's an average of 2.5 pounds per week!

Weight loss should be slow enough for new habits to become the norm, and you're already exceeding the recommended 1 to 2 pounds per week. You're doing fantastically!!!

I agree with Lisa. I wish there was a quicker way, too -- believe me! But ten pounds a month is actually a really terrific rate for weight loss.

That's a lot of weight in three months.

You are doing great... Plus you really don't want to lose it fast. Slow and steady wins the race.

First of all, you're losing plenty fast! I agree with the other posters--congrats on your progress so far!

Secondly, it's important to remember this is not a race! Losing slowly has merits--check out this great thread that has recently resurface:

Sorry, the only problem here is your expectations. You didn't get overweight in 3 months and it's certainly going to take much longer than that to lose it.

I'd love to lose 10lbs per month - I should be asking what your secret is
Sometimes I get disheartened, it feels like everyone is losing faster than me, but I've learnt it's not a race. I don't mind losing slow (this weeks large loss is NOT typical) because I enjoy my plan, maybe it's a matter of making your plan more enjoyable, you know what they say, time flies when you're having fun!

You're about where I am in pounds lost and time spent - and at times it feels like it hasn't been enough lost for the timeframe. Then I take a deep breath and realize that I've got it easy at the moment and there will come a day when not exercising to full sweat and eating below my caloric limit will not be enough to budge those pounds. There will even be a month or so where loss will come to a standstill. Enjoy this while it lasts!

Take comfort in the fact that while it doesn't feel like enough, in the long run with the weight and inches peeling off sensibly, it will be sustainable.

You can't put a timeline on a lifestyle change. However, if you incorporate a little exercise into it, you'll feel a million times better and you'll burn more, meaning more loss! 30 pounds is a great accomplishment though, and you can't ask for much more in three months without being extreme!

Thanks for the encouragement guys. Yea it's really good, but a lot is riding on me losing weight (like getting a good job in broadcast journalism). So I guess I'm being extra hard on myself without really putting much effort into it - like exercising everyday.

I'm going to try and incorporate exercise and see how much more that helps, but we will see.

Paris and DrivenbyAmbition - I wish I was at YOUR guys' weight by now. lol.

Don't be surprised if your weight loss slows down when you start exercising. This is temporary and will definately help your weight loss down the road as you get closer to your goal.

Regardless - as everyone has stated repeatedly - 30lbs in 3 months is a lot. Congratulations.

ditto. 30 pounds in 3 months is fabulous. And--not to sound like a heretic--don't worry too much about the exercise. For now, walk whenever you can--take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk across the parking lot, change TV channels without the remote, take a walk after dinner, etc.--but as the weight comes off, you'll start to _want_ to exercise more. Losing weight is about 80% diet and 20% exercise.

Really? 30 lbs, 3 months, no exercise? And you're complaining? I've been at it since January...and exercising...a lot, and have "only" lost 9 lbs. I will have to agree with the above poster and recommend you read the thread about the slowest losers on 3FC.
