I think a lot of it is what you're used to. If you've "known" someone (be it a celeb or someone in real life) who's been overweight most of their lives, they can look kind of "weird" when they get thin. Unfortunately, I think this applies more to older people. When my FIL lost a bunch of weight, he looked kind of gaunt and saggy around the face and neck. I got used to it after a while and am SO glad he got healthier...but he just looked more youthful when his face was a little plumper (it probably also didn't help that he refused to buy enough new clothes...when I first saw him after the weight loss, he had his pants all sinched up around his waist...he just kind of looked like a poor homeless person or something!)
I agree though that health is way more important than what other people think or what they're used to.

Yeah I agree with the above post. My sis lost a ton of weight a few years ago (has since put it back on, because she was starving herself). She is 40 and got down to a size 0. Every time I would look at her I would be like WOAH...she looks SO skinny. And she really did, but I think you just get used to a person looking a certain and especially if you aren't there to watch them gradually lose its kind of a shock to the memory of what you expect them to look like.
I agree...health should be number one. Looks always a number two.
A friend of mine says, "When you're 50, you can have a good butt or a good face, but you can't have both."
Meaning -- if you're heavy, your face will look filled-out and less wrinkly, but you'll have a big saggy butt. If you're thin, you'll have a gaunt, more wrinkly face, but a smaller, more-gravity-defying butt.
I think my face has definitely gotten thinner and my cheekbones more defined. It may well make me look older... but I don't have to count my chins in photos anymore, so I'll take it!

THIS. This is definitely true. People get used to seeing you a certain way and when it changes drastically, they think it's "bad." I know someone who completely changed her body going on a paleo diet and becoming obsessed with Crossfit and now she looks (by her own admission) man-ish with a long face and boxy versus her old curvier figure. However, she's healthier and happier, so it's a trade-off...
Thank you for posting the pictures. My Mom was telling me about Drew's weight loss the other day, and I wasn't even aware of it. I think he looks cute. I guess I'm just weird. GO DREW....good for YOU!!

I think drew looks great now. I just think he looks older now then before which he is. I remember with Star Jones from the View people had said simlar things about her too. There are always going to be negative people out there who just can't wait to pounce on the first chance to bring others down.

I think it's just becuz we were used to him the way he was and we loved his manner and humor so much. Personally, I think he looked best (meaning, the healthiest to me) in the middle picture (of the three posted in this thread); but if he is happy and healthy, that is what matters the most. I'm happy for him ... and I still love him, no matter what!

This is definitely true. I don't want to be as thin as I used to be, but I think just adding 5 pounds or so will do the trick.
About DC, I just think people can just get used to people the way they are used to seeing them. This is especially true with celebs. People resist change.
Some people build careers on being big, or at least in kind of that persona or whatever you want to call it, it's just a big change for EVERYONE not just Drew. And besidse he's not a young man, all his wrinkles are showing even more now, skinny people (so I have heard) show wrinkles more than larger people do. It's just a bit of a shock. Personally, I too think he looks good but meh. People will think what they want.

While there have been some celebrities and even some people that I know who just look a little odd when they lose weight, like maybe they were meant to be chunkier, I sure hope that they are happy that they most likely feel much better. I'd trade looking a little goofy for getting rid of diabetes and feeling better any day.
I will say that I did check to see if Alton Brown was okay or not, almost everyone I know who watches his shows thinks that he looks almost sickly.

I guess that's a good example for me. I never saw Alton Brown heavier...so to me he looks fine. Drew Carey, on the other hand, looks really sick to me. *shrugs*
I almost should bite my tongue but I have to be honest. I saw Drew on The Price Is Right recently and was shocked in his new look. Not saying he's more or less healthier now than before BUT in my opinion, he did look healthier with more meat on his bones. The weight he is now, he looks frail and has aged by about 10 years.
Still, people put a lot of stress on thin equating healthy. This is NOT true. A woman with some curves and meat on her is probably much healthier than a woman that is twig and bone. But, apparently society thinks it "looks" better.
At any rate, don't be discouraged. People will think what they think and say what they say. Do your weight loss for yourself. Do it because it's going to make you healthier and happier. Remember, either extreme (super thin or super fat) is unhealthy for you :]
Very few people's comments mattered while I was heavy, and even fewer will matter as the pounds lessen. Some people would look better if they'd have a couple of cheeseburgers. Opinions are like things we all have...and some of them smell horribly.
I think he just needs a new hairstyle and maybe a few more pounds. A friend of mine lost a lot of weight from WLS with complications and she looks older. I've also known people my age who look just fine after losing a lot very quickly. I think it's the individual and our perception of what they should look like.
