Unhappy Had a mini 'binge' the last few days

Ok, just to get this off my chest...

I'm on a 1200 calorie diet. It was going really well and I never stuggled, But these last two days(for some unknown reason) it's just gone to s**t.

Last night I had a sweet chillie chicken deli and a cheeseburger from Mcdonalds. We was running late and needed something mega quick for dinner...so we went through the drive through

Yesterday, I also had a tube of Rowntrees fruit pastells (they were nice) and a packet of mini chedders. So, when I worked out all the calories I ate yesterday it came to 1445. (i missed Lunch) Also yesterday, I never excercised at all. I didn't even take my dog for a run (I know thats cruel, pls don't rag on me) I was just so busy.

So the day before yesterday (Monday) I went to the gym and went for a 5 mile walk with the dog. But when I got home, my other half had brought home some 'treats' and feeling really tired I ate two chocolate bars (a raisin Yorkie and a Cadbury's caramel- like 600 calories combined) So my calories for that day were roughly 1350 ( I had been saving my calories for a treat anyway). Which doesn't sound alot, but I have been really trying to give up the chocolate. Oh yeah, I forgot to add I had sweet popcorn too. That filled me up. Otherwise I think it would have been worse

So now I'm feeling pretty bummed. I'm usually full and satisfied on what I eat. And because it's all low cal I can eat loads. I think it might be due to pms! But I suppose thats no excuse.

I know it doesn't sound like a 'real binge' but after the struggles I had in the beginning, it's quite bad for me.

I did a calculation before and it said that to just stay at the same weight as I am and not do anything I would need to consume 1400 calories a day. So hopefully my diet won't won't be too effected.

Thanks for listening, I just needed to get that off my chest. I know I sound hard on myself, but I have to be, because I'm that type of person who will just binge binge binge.

BTW my other half brings home 'treats' EVERY night. I think he's trying to sabotage me.

I am not a calorie counter, but tend to see that over the week, or month, you can balance out a bit of over eating. I would personally say that spring/ summer is coming. Lots of salads and light eating, and lots more outdoor activities. Just take a few extra walks, or have a day of fasting. Obviously, don't eat a chocolate bar every day. Perhaps you could reinforce with your other half that you are on a diet and he should bring home fruits and vegetables for snacking.

The time to talk to the other half about treats is when there isn't a treat on the table: at that point, it's right there and you are rejecting it, which is emotional. You need to talk to him when the issue is theoretical, and you need to make it clear that you really, really, really don't want him to do this--that you aren't secretly happy deep down inside. He thinks that he's making you happy, that you are glad he's treating you. You need to give him an alternate thing to bring you--point out that flowers are cheap at the grocery store this time of year!

lol I know, he's buys me flowers too! He's very sweet and he never puts me down, that's why I think I gained weight in the first place!

He just buys them for himself, but obviously he gets me something because he doesn't want to eat it in front of me. Usually I'm ok. Like I said I had a funny few days. I think he needs to go on a diet more than me!

Or he sends me down the shop (lol) which is ok cos I usually get myself some raspberries or something and eat them with plain bio youghurt.

He's actually pretty supportive ( in the sense he let lets me get on with it and looks after the kids when I go to the gym etc and always eats the healthy food even if he's not too keen on it!)

The only other thing is he worries about me walking the dog too far, we do actually have 'tiffs' over that- he says anything might happen to me! MEN! Like I can't phone for help if I get in trouble pmsl

I think you'll be fine weight wise. MEaning, I really don't think this blip will cause much of a weight gain.

But I would use it as a learning experience - and indeed - learn from it.

Like you said, as long as it's the *right* foods, 1200 calories is quite a lot of food - filling, satisfying, satiating and highly sustainable. But when you use those calories towards ummm - *junk* - well then you start to feel like - your words - crap.

So maybe plan a little better next time, turn a blind eye to the chocolates, make sure you ALWAYS, absolutely ALWAYS have healthy, lower calorie food options available to you. Always. Because it's just THAT important.

thanks for that! I think 1200 calories can equal quite a lot of food too. Some people I know say it's way too under! But sometimes I can't manage the full 1200 because I fill up on the good stuff. I'm full of energy and usually excercise daily ( I have to because I spend alot of the time in front of the computer- like now). My nails are growing strong and generally I feel great.

At least someone agrees and dosen't think it's stupid. Yeah, i don't normally eat chocolate and junk, i just had a strange 5 mins. Though I do treat myself.

I don't know if I'm going to get backlash for saying this, but it's not a big deal. Pick yourself up and eat right, but don't stress about what you did.

Your calories were in check, so what's wrong with a little splurge now and then? It's not sustainable to believe that you'll go the rest of your life eating no chocolate or no sweet popcorn. Everyone needs a quick burger once in a while. You're learning how to best lose and maintain your weight with healthy habits that you can use for a lifetime.

Don't make it an every day thing, but seriously, it's okay. We've all been there. You don't need to worry about a couple high days

I wonder if your "mini binge" is related to PMS or TOM? I know around that time every month I feel out of control with my cravings. I wouldn't feel too bad about it though. Sometimes when you up your calories for a few days it will actually give your weight loss a little boost because it ups your metabolism

Thanks! It's just like sometimes you have to just get it off your chest...like a confession!! pmsl. But yeah, I figure it's better for the 'soul' to have a little of what you like now and again. Keeps you on the straight and narrow, because you're not denying yourself.

Sweettooth- I think you're right, it must be linked to my pms. Because I just realised I did the same thing last month!! And I think I just needed that 'sweet' boost.

I went to the gym this evening and burned it all out of my system( the pms) and now I'm feeling great again
