Angry Any snack ideas?

I get home from work at 4, and am famished, start looking for food I shouldn't eat (cookies, sweets). What can I eat to suppress my cravings until dinner at 5:30? It's always worse if I'm alone!!

I like something with a good combination of fiber and protein. Examples could be veggies and hummus (fiber in the veggies and hummus, protein in the hummus), greek yogurt w/ berries (greek yogurt is PACKED with protein), or an apple and a piece of string cheese. For me, it is the combination of protein and fiber that really makes me feel full and satisfied.

Sugar free jello~You can eat a huge bowl of it and its only 40 calories.
(Add some fruit Like banana slices ect if you need something with it.)
Or If you must have sweets like cookies ect get some rice Crispie treats ~They are low in calories(about 90 to 120 depending upon type)
Even most pretzels are low in calories.
GOOD LUCK

I am always starving at that time and what I find works best is SOUP. It feels like a meal, its high in volume, and if you pick right it is pretty low in calories. Plus for me salty foods satisfy and temporarily quench the sugar cravings. Where any kind of sweet (even fruit) just exacerbates it. I know I am always hungry then so I dont try to skimp and have a measly 1 cup of low cal soup. I plan to have a large bowl and plan in 150-250 calories for that meal.

After the soup is done if I am still hungry I pull out the raw veggies to crunch on until dinner is ready.

I agree with the sugar free jello or sugar free pudding. I also like quakes, you can have like 9 of these for 50 calories and they fill me up pretty fast.
We also go to the produce stand and I take the fruit that is marked down, almost old, and make it into frozen bars. I add a little yogurt and honey, throw in all the fruit and they are great. This way I know what is in it and they last for awhile.

i also like to take those 80 calorie yogurt smoothies.. throw them in a blender with a good amount of ice, and some fruit, like strawberries/banana or blueberries, and mix that up. It makes a really filling and quite large smoothie for a little over 100 calories, and they are even good if you dont add extra fruit. I just like mixing them with the ice.. because it makes more and is very filling.

I love hot cereal for an afternoon snack. It is so warmy and yummy. A bowl of oat bran or whole wheat cream of wheat is only 130 calories!

I also love cottage cheese mixed with Greek yogurt, sweetened just a smidge (I use Splenda but you could use whatever sweetener you like) and topped with berries.

apple with peanut butter

yogurt

I know this isn't a snack idea, but the only thing that keeps me from eating things I shouldn't from when I get home to dinner, is I use that time for exercising. It is really hard to eat when you are working out!

I'd go for the string cheese or some low-fat/fat free yogurt. Or both...I'm a yogurt ADDICT right now. Or some sort of fruit, like an apple or some cantaloupe

I am new to this. I registered for Dr. Ians 50 pound weight loss challenge. He has three books "the 4 day diet" "exteme fat smash and fat smash" What is the difference between the extreme and the fat smashed or do I need to get both or all three

A light yogurt (such as Yoplait Light fat free) is usually good. It's sweet and It does have a small amount of protein, (5-6g) so it does take off the edge.

Lots of people seem to hate eggs around here...lol but we all really like them at our house. I'll hard boil a dozen and peel them and put them in a zip lock in the fridge and we snack on them for several days. Approx. 70 calories a piece, full of protein, and keeps you full for quite awhile. A sliced hard boiled egg on a few low calorie crackers is good too.

Though on my 1200 calorie days I just chew a piece of gum and keep my mind on other things, like my kids and their homework..lol

I'm not sure how much they are cost-wise, but at Costco they have these little 100 cal packs of like...miniature rice cakes. Some are smore flavored drizzled in chocolate, and the others are cinnamon flavored with white chocolate. I think they're called "Cheating with Chocolate" or something. But they're PERFECT for a snack to tide you over, and also to curb that chocolate/sweet craving.
