Hello everyone!

I'm new here thought I would say hello, Ive read this entire post and see there are alot of nice people with the same ambitions as myself. I can see myself really liking this forum. I started my journey January 4 2009 at 313.8 lbs I have since made it to 271.0 lbs, so about 43 lbs so far. I'm quite happy with my results but i still want to lose about 80 more pounds. Well it's time to go to a family gathering so I'll talk to you all later. :)

BillBlueEyes 05-03-2009 06:34 PM

Welcome Steve

:welcome: Steve :welcome:

And with your first post on 3FC :wel3fc:

Congratulations on your terrific success so far.

However did you find us?

And what is your eating plan that's done so well for you?

Steve 05-03-2009 11:09 PM

Thanks for the nice welcome. I found the site on a google search for weight loss message boards, this was the first I went to and it seemed like a good place. As for my methods all I have done is stop going to fast food joints (I really think they were going to be the death of me) I go to the gym 4 times a week. So far my gym time has only consisted of 1/2 hour on the recumbant bike, which I know I need to do more but I'm working up to that. My wife and I have been eating alot of fish and chicken for dinner and for breakfast I have a bowl of cereal with some almonds and skim milk a glasss of oj and some times a banana or a yogurt. Lunch I have a Sandwich either Turkey or tuna with a granola bar. I'm not a colorie copunter so I don't know what my calorie intake is, which is something I would really like to know how to do. Now that the weather is getting nice my bike rides consist of about 24 miles. I'm really glad I found this board it seems very informative and friendly. Thanks again for the welcome. I'm off to go do some reading.

Operator265 05-04-2009 12:14 AM

Welcome Steve. Check out the "Calorie Counters" Forum. I lurk there every so often. A lot of really good info there. Also, check out the "Exercise Forum". Most of them girls could kick a full grown boar's a$$.

Steve 05-04-2009 08:37 AM

Hi Operator265 thanks for the welcome, I'll be sure to check the calorie counter thread out thanks:) there's so much to absorb here.

Tomato 05-04-2009 09:39 AM

Hi Steve,

Welcome to 3FC. I am not a calorie counter either but if you are inclined, you can track your food intake online, either at www.fitday.com or www.dailyplate.com. The benefit of doing this is that the site will break it down for you so that you know what's the percentage of carbs, protein and fat in your diet.

Have fun!

Steve 05-04-2009 12:33 PM

Hi Tomato thanks for the welcome and thank you very much for the links.:)

discdodon1980 05-04-2009 01:18 PM

hello everyone!!!

Hello everyone!!!

This is my first day to be a member and this is my first post!!! I was thrilled to find a board for just guys!!! I searched everywhere on the web and couldn't find any!!

My Fiance has been a member on here for at least three months and loves it!! I'm so excited to get started and to meet people fighting the same fight I am.

My story--- I have been overweight my entire life starting at age 6 yrs old. five years ago I decided to lose weight and I did it. I started at 325 and I got down to 250. (still overweight but I was happy) I then moved to florida in 2006 and it was downhill after that!! I met the love of my life Tiffany in 2007 and then the weight really started adding up. I peaked at one time at 402 lbs!!!!:?: That was scary and I just started to cut back a little and then got it back to 276- 280 lbs. Then Tiff and I decided to do something about our weight for ourselves and for each other. We decided to weight to get married till we get to our goal weights!! we started DEC. 9, 2009 and it has been a great journey since then. I'm currently at 309 lbs and am excited to be at that weight(I know I'm crazy:dizzy:)

She has been getting support and help from fellow members on here and I thought I should do the same. For the last month I have been on a plateau and going from 315- 309 all month!!! I'm hoping to get real serious this week and get the momentum started once again!! I want to get to 230 as soon as possible to marry the love of my life!!!

Again HELLO TO EVERYONE!!! I will be posting on here alot I'm sure!!!!

Steve 05-04-2009 10:38 PM

Hello discdodon1980 nice to meet you, I'm new here as well. I wish you luck reaching your goal and congrats on meeting the love of your life. :)

well howdy

Well Howdy Men! Haven't been on here for a while but I am back home. Been doing some traveling. This time I didn't eat out and eat bad food. I brought my own and when I did eat out I went to a grocery store 2 times and bought fruit and ate at the salad bar.

Thats my hardest time to stay on track, when I am on the road.

A belated welcome to the new men on Men's Forum!

The weather here in Virginia is great! I look forward to taking my bike out on the bike trails this weekend! As long as it doesn't rain!

Also I started wearing my pedometer and I am surprised that I can walk 10,000+ steps easily a day (thats including running on the elliptical machine daily!)

:carrot:

BillBlueEyes 05-14-2009 04:55 AM

Before Sunrise

Good morning, flatiron,

Yay for the roosters being up before the sun!!

Congrats for the good eating on the road; that's a hard time for me also.

My Milestone yesterday was to finish off the two pound jar of whey protein powder and start on the new 5 pound jar. It's a rewarding marker for me since I only do one scoop when I do weights so it's a marker for going to the gym.

Joshua from eawc 05-14-2009 03:13 PM

I finally found the mens thread. haha. Hi guys, my names Joshua (obviously) and I've kept off 100 pounds for two years now. I'm currently trying to bulk up and gain some muscle weight this summer+. You can read my full story in my blog with before/after pictures.

:)

BillBlueEyes 05-14-2009 06:47 PM

Welcome Joshua (Joshua from eawc)

:welcome: Joshua (Joshua from eawc) :welcome:

And, in case you haven't gotten one of these yet, :wel3fc:

Yep, you found the men's thread, where guys occasionally touch base but hang out in all the different corners of the site.

Thanks for the pointer to your blog - neat history losing that 100 pounds on your own.

Are you currently using a gym?

Actually yes, but I have no set routine which is KILLING me. I'm looking for some basic routines to get the ball rolling again (don't get me wrong, I know a lot of exercises from my history, I just like a structured plan). So if any of you have a link that could hint me on the right path that would be great.

I'm looking for bulking up mostly. I swim every other day (laps) I'm just needing multiple plans so I can rotate them every other 3-4 weeks.

I got my workout routine from here ... http://www.muscleandstrength.com/workouts/main.html

I do the advanced split routine and it works for me so far!

Sophia Elise 05-19-2009 11:08 PM

This is a good topic.

Joshua from eawc 05-19-2009 11:51 PM

That website is great, thanks so much for recommending it :)

I played for a pro paintball team for a few months and REALLY hurt my quads... I tore them I think, It's been over four months and they still hurt when I do squats/leg press/ leg exercises... So I'm having to stop working my legs until I figure out whats wrong with me. I hope my upper body doesn't get huge and my legs stay the same now lol. I don't want to look weird. ;)

Operator265 05-20-2009 01:11 AM

OK, so you're the young oldster.

flatiron 05-24-2009 09:28 PM

Oh man the weather is AWESOME here in Virginia right now! PERFECT for bike riding! If I was in better shape or even younger I think I would like to do like a long distance bike ride. I am really used to my bike now. When I got it 5 months ago I could hardly ride 20 minutes without getting sore. I can now ride 3 hours and hit it hard and hardly break a sweat it is so awesome to be able to do that.

Of course this is just roadwork (I have a hybrid bike too). ONE day I am going to do some mountain biking!

Another thing is I am now taking vitamins regularly. The Health and Nutrician store I go to has I swaer at least 200 different kinds of vitamins. I was just going to take like One-A-Day but it seems the store clerk recoiled in horror when I said I was going to take them. He said they are mass produced pill for the generic masses. He said that men should take vitamins specifically for men. I tried to read what the difference is but I swear there are SO MANY things in both and looks like everything but the kitchen sink is in those pills! LOL!

What kind of vitamins do you all take?

I take a daily multi-vitamin; CVS something for men (merely means no iron). Mass produced. Pennies per pill. As recommended by Nutrition Action (Center for Science in the Public Interest).

My doctor suggests that a daily vitamin "can't hurt," but isn't particularly enthusiastic. There is no study that shows that manufactured vitamins seriously contribute to health. So, if I believe that, why do I take them? I guess because I believe like my doctor, can't hurt.

But I haven't bought in to the sales pitch of the vitamin stores. YMMV.

Hey I know what you mean! LOL! I only go to this one Vitamin Store because it is right around the corner from me!

I swear you could go into this place and tell them you have ANY disease or ANY ailment and the sales person will tell you you don't need conventional meds you can get it all naturally! :D

Kootch 05-25-2009 01:22 PM

Hey guys. Please allow me to quickly reintroduce myself. I've been lurking here for ages with the odd weak attempt at trying to lose weight...

I've tried, and failed, over and over to lose weight. I've slowly come to understand that it's a lifestyle change, not a quick fix.

I'm 41 yrs old, 343 lbs, 6'1, and a football player frame. Always been somewhat heavyset, but the past 15 yrs have been where I've really piled the weight on.

I'm doing a 5-6 small meals daily plan of lower fat, higher protein, moderate carbs.

Exercise I have to be careful with - I have a bad kidney that produces kidney stones at least yearly. Got one now in fact. So riding the bike isn't bad, but things where I'm bending or stretch alot and quickly cause lots of blood in my urine, and pain. Gonna hit the weights fairly hard - I think that should be fine.

History: Dad had his first heart bypass at 51, then another in his early 60s. One of his sisters keeled over dead at 40 from a coronary, and his other brothers and sisters all had heart problems. Oh, and my sister is having heart issues at the moment. Yeah, time for me to do it right this time. Mom died of a stroke. Time for me to set an example for my two teenaged kids.

Love the idea of having a mens support thread to hang out in. Looking forward to it - this time it's gonna happen. I have all the confidence in the world!

Kootch 05-27-2009 09:42 AM

Started Monday and have been eating lean and clean ever since.

But I gotta say - this morning was a struggle, but not for the reason you'd think.

I've been packing my meals for work in a small soft-sided cooler each day. Today, among a bunch of things, I packed a tupperware container filled with fat-free yogurt and fat-free cottage cheese. I got to work, and the lid had popped off sometime on the way.

It covered everything. I had 3 other meals in that cooler in baggies and tupperwear, and everything was coated in a cottage cheese/yogurt layer. Took 10 minutes in the work kitchen to clean everything. Ughhh.

Just thought I'd share... The ladies in my office all got a good chuckle, although I was failing to see much humour.

Kootch 05-28-2009 01:28 PM

Any other guys out there? Anyone? Bueller??

Operator265 05-28-2009 02:03 PM

Hang in there, dude. They probably just got some smack down on other threads and gotta lick their wounds. :stress: JK! They'll be back. They always come back. No different here than IRL.:D

Kootch 06-01-2009 10:55 AM

In the spirit of keeping the thread alive...

First week's weigh-in: down 8lbs.

The weekend was a challenge. I managed to eat lean and clean, but late at night is a killer. Just about bedtime I tend to graze non-stop. Someone suggested eating more protein at those times as it'll help feel fuller. I'm gonna try it, 'cause gallons of water ain't working...

Good Work. That's a great first week loss.
I feel your pain, about late nights. Every night around 11 I get a severe craving. My weakness is that I really want sugar. We have cut out all deserts and sweets (except for the occasional treat). But without fail every night I crave sugar. I have found that the only way to satiate my cravings is with 2 tablespoons Peanut Butter, 1 teaspoon Honey (both on the spoon, I'm not wasting calories on bread) and a glass of Skim Milk. I'm sure that someone out there will want to chastise me for eating before bed. But it is the only time, I every have cravings, anymore. Otherwise my eating is completely in control.

Operator265 06-03-2009 01:53 PM

No one should chastise you for that. :nono: If they do, just let me know. :dz: I blow stuff up for a living. :bomb:

Maybe it's sweets for me, as well. Good suggestion - I might try that one as well...

BTW, Kootch. GOOD JOB! Keep it down!

No, It is just that you see a lot of posts out there where people say "No Food After 8" and the like. Although I really don't care, as I pretty much don't follow any rules. I still eat whatever I want...just in moderation.

Good job Kootch. I started out about the same weight as you (345). You can do it. I was stuck on a plateau for a few weeks and it was very frustrating but I seem to be passed it, I FINALLY started losing again.

Good luck! :carrot:
