Definitely keep some pics, especially of you and your kids. I am exactly the same way - always the photographer to avoid being in the photos. This past week, it was my DD's 16th birthday. We celebrated by taking some of her friends into the city to do a bunch of things, including a cruise. I took a pic of the group at the restaurant and the waiter offered to take the photo so I could be in the picture, but I declined, not wanting to be in the picture. While we were on the boat, the captain offered to take a pic, again I declined. But he responded by saying, "Does anyone else have a camera besides grumpy Mom, because she's really going to love this picture, I promise." Well, I don't back down from a challenge, so I handed over my camera and let him take the picture. And he was right; it's lovely. Yes, I still look like me (old and chubby, especially standing next to a bunch of skinny 16 yr olds!). But everyone, especially my daughter, looks like they're having so much fun. Out of all the pics we took that day, that's the photo that DD's framed and set on her desk. And when she looks at it years from now, she's not going to see my extra pounds, she's going to remember the day that I traipsed all over the city with she and her friends to celebrate her!
I recently came across some photos of when I was in my 20s. I can remember at that time feeling (and being told) I was fat and useless. When I look at those photos now, I think I look pretty good. (I wish I was at that weight now!) My point is, when I'm feeling down about myself, they remind me that maybe it's not as bad as I think.
