Just finished the 3FC Canada Day 5K. Did the walk in about 65 minutes and the stationary bike in 38 minutes. I just increased the resistance on the bike and that was the longest time I ever took to do a 5K on the bike. I will post pictures as soon as I download them from my camera.
Just a side note about Canada Day in Newfoundland and Labrador. When Newfoundland was a sovereign nation prior to April 1949, July 1 was celebrated as Remembrance Day. Even now in Newfoundland and Labrador ceremonies and wreath laying take place on or before Canada Day in commemoration of the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel which took place July 1, 1916. Of the 780 men who went forward only about 110 survived unscathed, of whom only sixty eight were available for roll call the following day. An excellent recount of the events can be found at the Veteran's Affairs Canada website: https://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/remembers/.../beaumonthamel
So as I did my 5k walk and bike ride I was not only a proud Canadian but I also took a few minutes to remember another time and wore a little bunch of Forget-Me-Nots (the Newfoundland flower of Remembrance) in honour of the day.
In honor of our neighbors to the north, I did a 5K on Canada Day. The first mile was walking with my sister's dog, and the balance was walk/run on the treadmill. All in all it took me about 45 minutes to complete the 5K distance, I think (I went an hour so I did a little more than technically required). I'll try to get in another one tonight; maybe I will even have the resolve to run the whole thing this time.
I'm in this time too! I'm doing it tonight though - since it's walking night! So put me and the boyfriend in... let's see if he can do 3.1 miles! 2.5 almost KILLED him last week!
