Beth- too funny. We're both at the same progress, started at almost the weight and need to lose almost the same amount of weight, and there's someone around my height on here!

Oh, and my middle name is Beth.

I love it!!! We need to start our own Beth club. I am between 5'8 to 5'9", depending upon the day. If I do lots of stretchy exercises and aerobic dancing, I'm 5'9. I shrink down to 5'8" when I am not exercising. The weight flattens me down in the wrong direction.

I'm not an apple so I can't relate on that level but like one of the other girls who posted I AM a pear...and its frustrating as anything sometimes.

Because I do a lot of running, lunges, squats, spin classes etc I have quite large thighs and calves and yes...a butt (although apparently a "perky" one these days lol) and finding a pair of pants that fit is a nightmare.

Jeans seem to be made for skinny legs and nothing fits over my thighs or if they do they gap by 3 inches at the waist...it's depressing

My two sisters and my mum on the other hand are all "apples" and are the up and down, no waist, no bum, skinny legged variety and ALL complain about not having a bum because their jeans fall down.

At least my boyfriend understands where I am coming from with clothes shopping - of all people! He's 6'6 and lean/athletic build and he can NEVER find anything that fits. Heh...we have a *great* time shopping together :P

I have issues finding jeans that fit me. I'm about a size 8 or 10 in my legs, but I cant get jeans that go over my bum and still fit my legs! I'm doomed to baggy jeans until I can get rid of my saddlebags and get more muscle in my bum and the fat out!

Its so hard to shop for clothes, because I have a short torso and my legs are between 42" and 44" long. Standing at almost 5'8, it creates more of a problem for me in my chest area. My ribcage is huge and actually sticks out, you can feel it and see it sometimes right beneath the skin. I have no idea what shape I am, but I often get nasty comments off salesgirls. It does hurt a bit, but I've learned to get over it, because at least I'm not starving myself to lose weight/maintain my weight!

Sorry you got upset by the insensitive salesclerk's comments. If it helps she'd probably be equally derogatory about pear-shaped women as well.

Slightly off topic but being very pear-shaped I'm excited to even hear that I might be able to find jeans to fit me. In the UK its very much one size fits all and I find even the shops that stock plus-size trousers I have to buy a couple of sizes bigger to fit my butt. I'm in Orlando in October and Lane Bryant will definitely be on my list.

Kitty

p.s. before I get too carried away, how much do these jeans retail for?

Uh...

I'd never want to be "bootylicious" anyway..I'm bisexual and I dig "flatter" girls..and my own body ideal is androgynous.

BUT back to my reality..I'm 34E-27-35! This makes me CURVY and I don't really like it. It isn't better. The grass isn't greener...I don't have a big butt but do have defined waist..I guess I'm neither apple nor pear then, but whatever I am, not a fan of it, thinner thinner thinner...

PS. I realise this isn't a healthy attitude

I think all women admire things in other women that they don't have. Like I have muscular legs. I've always admired women with thin, long legs, like my best friend. Meanwhile she always tells me she wishes her legs looked like mine. Go figure! Anyway, I've always heard that squats, lunges, and other glute exercises will help to give the booty a little shape where it's lacking. Other than that, don't fret over what you can't change sweetie. Life is much too short.

What a B!TCH!! Was SHE fat with no butt herself?

I think I am an apple by default - my waist to hips ratio SUCKS and my stomach is always the last place for me to lose weight. My biggest goal for myself size wise is not my weight, but rather having abs of steel! I HATE my soft, flabby stomach that seems to never disappear. My love handles love me.

I want to have a bigger booty, so I do lots of squats, ride my bike, run, and climb hills. I want to have that ideal hour glass figure, but I know I probably never will, so I'm trying to make my butt more round and my upper body more defined, so that I can give the ILLUSION of an hour glass figure even if it's not there

You are definitely not alone! I'm neither apple or pear but if I have to choose I'm definitely an apple. I feel like I'm more 'stick' or 'rectangle' until everyone tries to argue with me because it apparently doesn't exist. Yeah it does, look at me!

I have the hardest time finding jeans that don't give me plumber's butt because the waist slides down my belly, past my non existent hips and butt. To make matters worse, I have thick thighs so any jeans thst usually fit my waist/hip/butt are effing tight around my thighs, so they get dragged down especially when I sit.

Well I fit (unhappily) into the apple category. My waist & hip measurement are almost identical. I don't remember if I had a waist when I was thinner - so only time will tell.

I would definitely be calling & lodging a complaint. You're spending good money at this place & under no circumstances should you have to put up with comments like this. If she'll say it to you, she'll say it to others.

You're not alone. I have an "apple" type body as well. Probably not an EXTREME apple LOL but I do tend to carry my weight in my abdomen, have slim hips and thighs and a somewhat flat butt. It's not fun. To find pants to fit my thick waist, the butt part of the pants tend to hang off me. I'm happy to have slim hips and legs, but I don't enjoy the thick waist! There are things about my body that I do like, so it's not all bad. I like my legs and I have slim arms and nice, somewhat broad shoulders. I'm just thick in the middle w/that darn flattish behind! I look great in skirts, and jeans that have flap pockets. Otherwise, I try sometimes to hide my butt, not because it's too big, but because it's too small! LOLOLOL

Oh, and the thing about how "real women have curves"....am I not a real woman? I don't have too many curves! (I even had a breast reduction 7 years ago, so that part isn't even that curvy anymore!)

I tend to gain weight in my middle, too, so I totally relate! If I get even a little bit overweight I end up with a waist that's the same size as my hips! It's awful!

For me, the answer is that I need to be pretty skinny to get a good body. I have to make sure my waist is as small as I can get it so there is a big difference between my waist and hips (that waist-to-hips ratio). If I get even a little bit heavy it all goes to my middle and I have no curves!
