Question Newbie here and need help

Hi everyone. This is my first post. I found this board while searching for diet plans.

A little ‘bout myself:

Age: 40
Plan: Atkins
Began: 4-06-01
Stats: 233.5/208/175 - 5’7”
Little to no exercise

I am tired of the Atkins plan and really feel it’s not good for my body. I would like to try something else .. but not sure where to start.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Questions:

1. How do I ‘switch’ over from eating no carbs … to introducing them back into my plan … without gaining back the weight.

2. What ‘bout only counting calories? Will that work? (I’ve tried the low fat and was always hungry. I’m unable to afford WW meetings.)

3. Is there a survey/test I can take that would tell me what exactly I should be eating to lose weight? (I tried the ‘Right Mix’ … but am still confused.)

TIA!

Tia, are you the same Tia that used to post on 40-something?

Well either way, if you are looking to change from LC to some other plan you might want to try the WW/LC plan. Count your food in points like when on WW which means you can have unlimited green veggies but leave out the high carb stuff like potatos, Rice, pasta, bread etc... This seems to work for a lot of people and I'm doing something similar to it myself.

Good luck!

Hi Taz and thanks. (As a matter of fact ... you know who I am. But shhhhh ... don't tell the other board .. .ok .. lol.)

I will have to read more up on the WW/Low Carb deal. All this is so new to me.

Again, if anyone has a survey/quiz type deal I could take .. I'd appreciate it.

TIA = Thanks is advance.

Hi Scoobie

I have been gone a few days and I always look for newbies... sorry I missed you.

I think probably the WW/LC is a good plan.
I know there is a site for it under low carb forum.
WW is a good well balance plan. So is Richard Simmons plan.
I suggest you might just cut out white sugar and white flour and I bet you would do fine.

Sugar has NO health benefits whatsoever. There is no need for sugar in anyone's diet. It is merely a pleasure food which leads us to misery... not pleasure.

I know of no quiz to give you. Except....
... ask yourself... can you control your eating of sugar???
Do you hate yourself because you "want" to stop overeating but you can't.??
Do you keep gaining weight with the more diets you go on??

Then it is time to quit trying to find that perfect "diet" and start making "permanent" life changes.
Read in all the threads and find a group you can relate with and jump right in with them.
Good luck.

Thanks 2cute.

Sugar = I haven't had real sugar since April 2001. Any cooking I do .. I use Splenda.

Overeat = I really don't overeat. It's just my food choices aren't always that great.

Gaining weight = I've been on low carb since April and have lost almost 30 lbs. The only other plan I was on was low fat .. 9 years ago ... lost 30 lbs. and got pregnant.

I truly don't know if I want to continue the low carb plan. I like the idea of no sugar, flour, etc. But I don't like eating all the meat, etc. And eating chicken, fish, turkey can get boring.

I'd like to incorporate more veggies into my plan (ie corn) and more fruits. I currently eat no fruit at all.

Thanks for the idea of looking on this board to see what others are doing. I will do that.

SCOOBIE,

Have you looked into SUGAR BUSTERS? It's a WOE that is quite healthy and seems to be what you may be searching for. This is NOT a low carb diet (so many, for some reason, think it is). I get 45% of my daily intake for carbs (SB recommends approx. 30% fat/40% carbs/30% protein).

There's a really good site that a gal on SB has on the web that gives a good overview of this WOE:

http://www.prettyimpressivestuff.com/sugarbusters

We also have a SB SUPPORT BOARD right here on the 3FC'S SITE

http://64.119.161.199/forum/forumdisplay.php?forumid=62

Whatever you decide, I wish you good luck and much success!

You really are in the wrong site! I did atkins for months and even though this site is great for other diets you need this one www.atkinsfriends.com it is full of ideas and menus and advice and there are many more members! Check it out for yourself! It's completely low carb so you will feel right at home. Go and post your question there and you are sure to get responses like crazy!!

Thanks Deb, I will take a look at the SB website.

Spryng, I'm already a member of that board ... and again .. am looking to get away from Atkins.
