I think there is a balance to be achieved. Almonds are awesome but there are other excellent sources of protein such as legumes, whole grains and veggies. I think a varied diet is best.

I love almonds too, and eat them most days. I put them in 1 serving (1 oz, or about 22 almonds) baggies, so I can take them with me, and so I can only eat one serving at a time. 1 serving is 170 calories, so I can't let myself eat 3 servings at a time.

I tend to eat more like 10 almonds as a serving, and use other sources for protein instead like tofu, beans, lentils and soy protein.

I eat raw almonds also. The rule of thumb is a handful. I do it as a snack.
Beans of any kind are a great source of protein and fiber and are a complex carbohydrate...it's also very filling. Most of my soups have a base of legumes.

I too have to measure them out in 1oz snack baggies, otherwise I will overeat them.
