Bobbi - I've got two labradors and a Great Dane who do exactly the same thing - my husband (who sneaks them titbits) is always complaining that the staring puts him off his dinner, especially as the Great Dane's lazy and when she's sits the table is the perfect height for her to rest her chin on!!!! When I'm at eating a meal at the table on my own they don't even bother coming in to the kitchen.

I am going to see my friend this evening and she has two of the most adorable King Charles Jasper and Frodo.... sadly Jasper is dying he has a serious liver problem and the vet won't operate as it's too much of a risk. He's only two years old to look at it you would think he was fine but that just all the drugs he's on to keep him from stop having fits. I have spoiled both of them for Christmas!

Default Dog Drool?

Sarah Ann... take a picture and post your Great Dane's chin on your table, what a hoot! Our Charlie puts his chin on everyone's lap when we entertain, he goes to everyone, looks up with mornful eyes to see who'll feed him. He never whines or barks, just gives you that sad look. He also drools when we're eating, I hate that!

I'll try - but she's a bit worried about the camera - she doesn't like the flash.

I used to have Yorkies - 2 of them - and they were far noisier than the dogs I've got now - and a lot more viscious! Although when any of the dogs I have now do finally get around to barking its very deep and very loud - and for anyone trying to break in it would be very scary. Best of all is Ellie's growl... we've only heard it twice but its a VERY deep rumble - sounds like a dog from a horror movie.

the neighbours did have 6 but gave one away because she kept attacking the others and it was costing them a fortune in vets bills

Veggie...Jasper is only two? What a sweet face he has and it makes me want to cry knowing he has a serious liver problem. If he's going to dye anyway, why doesn't the vet operate? The vet said it was too risky, but what are the options?

I have two pure danes here in the US. A male and a female. They do not have cropped ears. More and more people are not cropping anymore. It isn't required in the show ring either. I think your girl looks like she has some Boxer in her. She is very pretty. Eropean danes do look a little different than ours.

Aw - Leesha - your beagle is gorgeous - a real cutie!

Hi Jen - your Danes are lovely. Looking at your pix they have a longer face than the Gt Danes in the UK. How strange there should be a difference. I understand there are subtle differences between UK Labradors and US Labradors as well (this was mentioned in the book Marley & Me - great book!)

I never realised what a gentle dog Danes are until we were given Ellie to take care of. One of our Vets (veterinary surgeons) thinks she is 99% Dane but with maybe a hint of Mastiff in her and the other Vet thinks she is all Dane. It doesn't really matter, she could be purple with green spots and we love her anyway. Its going to be very hard to give her back.
